    5:06 AM - Every Stranger's Eyes (Waters) - lyrics:
    [Waitress:] "You wanna cup of coffee?"
    [Customers:] "Heh, Turn that fucking juke box down
    You want to turn down that juke box....loud in here"
    [Waitress:] "I'm sorry, would you like a cup of coffee?
    Ok, you take cream and sugar? Sure."
    In truck stops and hamburger joints
    In Cadillac limousines
    In the company of has-beens
    And bent-backs
    And sleeping forms on pavement steps
    In libraries and railway stations
    In books and banks
    In the pages of history
    In suicidal cavalry attacks
    I recognise...
    Myself in every stranger's eyes
    And in wheelchairs by monuments
    Under tube trains and commuter accidents
    In council care and county courts
    At Easter fairs and sea-side resorts
    In drawing rooms and city morgues
    In award winning photographs
    Of life rafts on the China seas
    In transit camps, under arc lamps
    On unloading ramps
    In faces blurred by rubber stamps
    I recognise...
    Myself in every stranger's eyes
    And now, from where I stand
    Upon this hill
    I plundered from the pool
    I look around
    I search the skies
    I shade my eyes
    So nearly blind
    And I see signs of half remembered days
    I hear bells that chime in strange familiar ways
    I recognise...
    The hope you kindle in your eyes
    It's oh so easy now
    As we lie here in the dark
    Nothing interferes, it's obvious
    How to beat the tears
    That threaten to snuff out
    The spark of our love

      I agree it's one of my favorite albums of all time. Still listen to it at bedtime often. Don't know why so many don't like it. Gilmour might be missing on the album but Eric Clapton filled in. Not a bad option

      @fredrikblade90 6 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Yea. The high part is definitly playback. It sounds excactly as the record. Also its very curious that they dont film him at all during that most impressive part

      Fuckin' aye. He had to share the verses of Run Like Hell with Gilmour and that was a 20 years previous. He's a bit of a prick is our Roger but he can write a hell of a lyric.

    What a song!..Maybe Roger can't hit the high notes like he used to earlier but by God the depth and feeling in his voice makes one cry..Originally played by Eric Clapton in The Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking " but Andy Fairweather Low has done a superb job too..anyone who has seen this song being performed live will remember it forever.

    • @NannyWhip
      @NannyWhip 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      They've replaced the piano part with AFL's guitar picking. Very good choice IMHO. I'm not at all surprised Waters didn't attempt the high vocal parts at his age. It must have been difficult enough when originally recorded although it would have been better if he'd just handed that bit over to PP Arnold instead of using a synced playback of himself recorded in 1984

    • @ziggyzipgun
      @ziggyzipgun 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@NannyWhip Agreed, but if you listen to live versions from the original tour in 1984, you can tell he was also using the studio vocal track back then, too.

    • @alex506d
      @alex506d ปีที่แล้ว

      Well actually when he sang "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" at this particular gig, he actually went up to the Bb4 note completely clean, at the "you were caught in the crossfire" part, etc. So it wasn't that bad here.

    To bad roger has to use play back on the high notes these days but I get it. He never had a high voice to start with and even back in the day really had to push it to hit them. No way that’s possible now.

      It's no surprise really. Roger is primarily a lyricist (the best ever imo) not a lead vocalist. Since he aged and became 'Richard Gere' ha, he can't rich those notes. This is a very hard song to sing, try reaching those notes yourself. I'd use the studio playback too. It least he sounded fantastic once upon a time on the original track. Give him a break and enjoy his lyrics, they'll never be surpassed.
