@HowSci, I think there's a line between correcting someone's Biology mistakes and grammar mistakes on a science video but oh man, opinions on how a science channel names their videos, my guy? Joshy boy did some good foreshadowing work to reel the kids in for some fun facts. Looks like the point. Speaking of points, theirs touches on more than just their ability to walk on water. HOH, It's almost like the video used similes AND foreshadowing? Man, even most English majors would have at least appreciated that, but I guess you didn't. Find me a fact only title other than Coyote Peterson's "I got bit" or "I got stung" videos that get 10 million views. This generation just wants science to be fun like it should be. ANYWAY.
Because just when you thought you were safe in the water from the cousins of the only creature on earth that you can't find a single endearing thing about - spiders. You're not. 😣
Some roaches and caterpillars, most "singing" insects like cicadas and katydids, and a couple of others can "scream" or stridulate, the shock of the sound spooks most skittish predators (mainly birds and rodents). Water striders are pretty skittish, so I would assume a well placed screech would scare them off before they could bite too deep, then the insect could focus on reaching land.
Aunt Jemima Exactly what I was about to say! They are like Jesus Christ in that manner. But would Jesus kill a swimmer if he/she could not float on water? Even I know he wouldn't do that! :)

This channel gives so much love to insects and other arthropods and it makes me so happy as an entomology major. Thank you guys on the Deep Look team so much for such high quality content with such high production value. You guys are the absolute best.
I think this is my new favorite youtube channel. My favorite thing to look at is a zoom in on what's going on in the world - not always a very marketable interest, but these guys let me really get hyped about a bug that can walk on water
When I was a kid, I played near a ditch that usually had water with the level dependent on the rainfall. There were water-striders, crayfish, occasionally frogs/tadpoles and other water 'bugs' living there. I watched the striders glide across the surface and just accepted it as something to see while growing up. Now, I get the facts about how the amazing critters 'worked'! Fantastic!
This individual has lost its cerci, but you can tell it is a mayfly based on the wing venation. Mayflies have more "primitive" wings like dragonflies, which are clear with lots of veins. Caddisflies are more closely related to moths, having reduced wing venation and wings covered in hairs.
argh, yeah you're right... It is a mayfly and not a caddisfly. Guess I was moving too fast on that one. The creek is full of caddisfly larvae and I assumed incorrectly that the adult was one too. Thanks for the catch. Glad you like the episode otherwise. - JoshC
The insect era happened before the dinosaurs. Not saying that it won't happen again, especially considering the higher carbon content in the environment from pollution. All they need is for the plants to make a comeback from deforestation, processing the massive amounts of carbon dioxide we produced into oxygen, both helping the larger insects breath and making them grow, and they will own the world again.
This is an interesting idea! I believe they have significantly more surface area on their legs and feet to help with the interactions of the water surface. I am no expert though!
After rewatching, the caddisfly has ironically become stuck on water. It lived most of its life underwater and emerge on the water's surface as an adult.
That shot at 2:19 was amazing! Proper horror-movie rack focus shot. How many attempts it it take to get the water strider to cooperate with the camera operator?

Moving "too" fast. Two O's. By the way, the title of the video is weird. It could have been "This is Why Water Striders Can Walk on Water."
