You should watch the Planet Earth documentary. They're available on DVD, and there's loads of beautiful close up camera shots throughout the series as it highlights all natural environments across the globe(frozen tundras, deep caves, oceans, savannahs, mountains, and etc). David Attenborough narrarates the BBC version, while Sigourney Weaver narrates the US version that aired on the Discovery Channel. At the end of each region visited, they show a small "behind the scenes" clip that shows how tedious it was to get so close to creatures and whatnot. I bought the DVD box set some time ago, and every once in a while, I watch all six discs in one sitting. Truly one of the best experiences I love reliving.
given that one stage lasts 2 years, and the other 1 week... isn't it more accurate to say the fly is merely the reproductive stage of the wormlion? likewise...shouldn't we really name butterflies after their caterpillars? it's the caterpillar that lives the longest, eats the most, grows the most, has the most impact on the environment around it.

It's name doesn't make sense. an antlion is an insect that eats ants... by that logic, a wormlion would be an insect that eats worms. Africa, were the antlions live, has Lions north America has mountain lions, aka Cougars they should have called it an antcougar.
In France we have tiny spiders that operate in the exact same way, burried in the ground, at the bottom of a hole they dug, and sensing whenever an insect gets too close. They're incredibly fast. I used to annoy them with a little stick, or threw ants in there to see them attack, when I was a kid ^^
