      Does “rhythm” reflect the movement of the fish in sight casting.

    I can’t think of anything more important than rhythm. Couple it with rod position and you’ve just pretty much mastered the basic overhead cast. You did a very good job explaining not only what happens but what it feels like. That’s really important for learning. Good job!

    Brian, you are an amazing tutor. Your ability and enthusiasm are infectious.Although I would consider my fly-casting abilities above average, there is always room for improvement. Gobbled up the whole "line unrolling series", and sent me straight to an open area to practice my practicing !!(haha)
    Rhythm is a massive factor in my opinion. I see many beginners reach a state of inertia during their false casting.
    I like to start slow and speed up every consecutive false cast, building up line speed. this is using the double haul.
    Would love to meet you some day, and maybe even throw a line somewhere.
    With that level of passion and professionalism, you must be an exceptional guide !!!
    All the best in what you do......greetings from far away South Africa

    Sometimes when I make my up cast, the line comes very close to my face, and once on the down cast, it tipped the back of my head. What could I be doing wrong to have it so close to my head/face?
    I'm practicing with only fly line. No leader or fly. For safety and so as not to snap off my flys.
    I absolutely love your videos on fly casting/line unrolling(along with all the rest). I watch them over and over. I believe I'm on my fourth time through.

      Mad River Outfitters, I've had a fly-fishing instructor recommend a short length of yarn on the end of the leader as a fair approximation of a fly-like weight and behavior, plus visibility, for practice sessions. Would you concur with that as an acceptable option? (A-ha ... I read on below, and see that you do.)

      Slightly side note here, but are you perhaps Red/Green colorblind? I can see the line when he's casting against the brick wall...

    • @COHikerGirl
      @COHikerGirl 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MidwestSteeze Fair guess, but Abraham's point is legit. I've no color blindness, but the same thought did arise for me, I admit. I had to really peer at the screen to discern it (but then, I'm in a campground sitting at a picnic table outside, so admittedly the lighting isn't perfect). The shot served well enough as a visual aid to demonstrate his point; but even so, Mad River Outfitters might do well to re-shoot that scene against a white-, black- or blue-painted building side, and splice it in there.

    Great video! My cast , no, my line unrolling is falling a little slacky in forward cast, not piled, but not as straight as I’d like. Can the leader have to do with It? Or it’s more likely I’m waiting too much? I’m actually using very short leader for big streamer (practicing cast for Amazon peacock bass)

    the one thing that Im very curious about after watching a number of your videos is, Do you have any leader material on the end of the "fly line", when making these videos.? the reason I ask is because Ive always thought that a leader along with a piece of yarn perhaps was good for practice purposes, but if I didn't have to have it I would not bother.

    Well it just kept falling to crap. And watched you again in the beginning of this episode.
    Your calling it 10to1. But I’m left handed. And it took a while to figure out for the lefty it is 11 to 2 if I’m correct. I’m still such a newbie trying to do this and I’m sure I’m messing up but I seem to do better at 10/2 but I don’t want to start a bad habit.

    I must say that was so good s$#t. Been saltwater line unrolling for about 25 years and I'm more prone to wait too long in the back but never realized it until this video. So for the long time unrolling guys pay attention to the man. If you can grab one little tidbit your that much better. So pay attention you know it alls like me.

    All this info about energy, and timing just to make a fish think a bug has landed on top of the water? Not trolling. I love "A river runs through it"..i just don't understand how fly fishing is supposed to be so different than any other fishing, other than the hook not being submersed in the water.

    • @Madriveroutfitters
      @Madriveroutfitters  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most flies don't weight very much so it's a much different delivery method. It's still just fishing though. You must be able to cast to be successful. Many flies are fished below the surface though. It's not all about "bugs landing on the water".
