OMG That is a killer bike! 30-50 miles range, 28MPH, hydraulic brakes, hydraulic fork, cargo utility/2nd passenger possibility = 1600$ Those specs are usually around 3000$
Been waiting for this review! I have the Cafe Cruiser and Micah hits all of the points on why I purchased it. This bike is an absolute steal at $1600. It's such a smooth bike and my 11 mile commute to work is a breeze. Word on the street is Ride1Up is also designing a rear basket for it and hopefully will be releasing it in the next couple of months. Gonna be nice for cargo.
WHY use the word "steal"? Maybe some other people are thinking of buying, and hoping R1U will not increase their pricing! (yes, it is a good price point, but maybe you could work on your comment deficiencies a little)? Personally, I'm waiting for R1U to release a trail/adventure 53v bike and hopefully, IT will be a steal... D'oh!
Very happy to see all the positive reviews of this model! This will be my first e bike and I’m super stoked! Just a few more weeks till I’m able to hit the road 😁
Thanks for the review, I watched this in anticipation of getting one in Denver's EBike Rebate program. Something I never saw in the reviews that one of the store techs accidentally figured out the same day I test rode: Holding the (-) button the speed assist selector panel puts it in 'Walk mode" where it will assist you very slightly in walking the bike around. Fun feature I hadn't considered at all.
I have had this bike for three weeks now. Absolutely love the distance I can get with peddle assist. Your right about the soft sand part but the walk assist is great for getting through the soft sand. I can carry my beach and fishing gear effortlessly. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
@@prufrockproductions I have the step thru model and it's pretty doable for me. I think it's a tad bit higher than normal step thru bikes so just keep that in mind.
I own the step through version for a couple weeks now and I can honestly say that you hit the nail on the head. Let me talk about the only downside of this e-bike. It doesn't play well with my Schwinn Joyrider trailer, the coupling doesn't fit this bike so I need to find another solution. But for the time being, I use one front and one rear child seat to carry both my kids with NO ISSUES AT ALL. This has been one of the best buys I've had during the pandemic.
I've been scouring the market lately, and this bike has emerged as one of the top contenders. The Lectric XP 2.0 also seems appropriate for me, and it's good value at a lower price point (with more compromises). One advantage for Ride1Up: they ship to Canada for $100, whereas Lectric charges $200. I appreciate both companies for actually shipping to Canada. Rad ships _from_ Canada but they seem overpriced to me in general. I'm only considering bikes with a 300+ lb. weight limit (for my fat ass + my heavy bike lock & cargo), which seems to exclude most offerings from most companies right off the bat (in my $1-2K price range at least). *EDIT* I did get one, and I love it. Great bike for the $.
I was considering the Lextric XP; it doesn’t compare to the cafe cruiser. I bit the bullet and spent the extra dollars for the cafe cruiser and the thing is an absolute beast. I just felt like the Lectric was going to be disappointing off-road based on everything I researched.
@@mikele7982 Hi Mike. I'm glad to tell you I've got no regrets with the Cafe Cruiser. I think it's a great bike for the $ and I do recommend both the bike and the company. Top speed: I've had it up to 45 kph or so, and I think 50 kph is roughly the max, but because of the gearing you need to pedal quite fast to reach & maintain that speed. I'm a fairly heavy guy, and I can get up to 35-40 kph quite fast, and that's a comfortable zone to be in. The seat it comes with is actually comfy IMO, although a suspension seat post would be good with it. I've heard the Cafe Cruiser likened to a "luxury SUV", and that seems apt. Overall it feels like a quality unit, and Ride1Up doesn't try to nickel & dime you to death on extras. I say get one, so long as the features on it look right to you.
I think R1UP should have added a mid drive and gate carbon belt, for those of us who are willing to paid a little more for better spec. Still is a great bike, just not what am looking for. Thank for the review Micah.
I would love to see a comparison of affordable, passenger-capable ebikes like this! In the under-$2k range, it seems like you've got basically this, the RadRunner, and a couple cargo bikes like the Blix Packa Genie and the KBO Ranger and *just barely* (!) the RadWagon 4. I love everything about the Ride1Up Cafe except the swoopy cruiser lines, and I'm still tempted to go with it in spite of the aesthetics.
I liked the radrunner plus at first. Looks great. But it’s heavier and throttle only can’t do the top speed of 20mph. This is a nice discovery for me. Faster speed on throttle, and get the passenger option for it.
I’m from Florida but I’ve never seen a nice place like that, where were you riding? Those trails and paths looked amazing! I’d love to ride my onewheel and Radbike there!
@@rahularora9868 yes. I ended up getting the Rad Runner Plus in the end and am very happy with it, despite my initial concerns about fat tires. I went with the Rad over the Ride1Up because I preferred having access to local staff, parts, and repairs; choosing that over style and (agility?)
Thanks for showing this great Cruiser! How is the Sensitive Cadence Sensor working? And do you have any idea how/where to buy this Cruiser for/in Europe ??
I don't like swept back cruiser bars but that would be and easy fix. I would prefer bars like a classic Raleigh roadster 3 speed. But that bike looks like a solid machine capable of years of commuter service.
Have a Himiway Big Dog arriving Friday. This seems like a good alternative, but I'd miss the 400lb rating on the Big Dog. Just makes it easier for passengers.
Micah, will you be doing a review for Juiced Rip Racer sometime? I didn't even know that bike existed until tonight when I found it on their website. Neat looking BMX style bike. I definitely would get the Class 3 one over the Class 2. I know you would do a really good review on it. Thanks for all the content you have been pumping out lately. I rode BMX for many years of my life and know for me it would be an easy transition to hop on a 20 inch bike. I also like that it already comes with BMX style handlebars. I have looked at Lectric bikes but can't stomach the handlebars and know I would have to change them to BMX handlebars right away. Take care and God bless 🙏 Jeff - Sunny Central Florida
I noticed the thumb throttle by the left grip, and noticed the badge on the front of the bike said class 3. I'm confused wouldn't that make it a class 2 for California? and do different states have different laws for E bike class 1-3 ? Class 3 eBike A Class 3 eBike, or speed pedal-assisted electric bicycle, is equipped with a motor that provides assistance only when the rider is pedaling and stops providing assistance when the bicycle reaches 28 mph. Operators of Class 3 e-bikes must be 16 or older and wear a helmet.
65 lbs. Is there a lighter bike with good range? I'm looking at Aventon soltera and pace. I like the pace's range but it seems a tad too heavy (52 lbs)
This bike was really easy to assemble th-cam.com/users/postUgkxMesz3KOGEmwmvyKQfLfrRSUXLFzfVHZA and required very few adjustments out of the box. The wheels did not require any truing/adjustments. The frame had some small scratches, but nothing major.I did replace the seat though - the seat it came with was very uncomfortable. The tires need to be re-inflated every 4-5 days, but this appears to be quite common for the narrow 700x25 tires.Overall, in my opinion, this bike looks and rides like a much more expensive bike.
Any suggestions for the HEAVY bike rider looking for an eBike? Sure, 300 lbs is great, but I'd need to carry around a rather substantial helium balloon to only subject the bike to 300 lbs. Anything for the 350 to 400 lbs rider?
Sobering: a gallon of gas, weighing around 8 pounds, can power a 3,000-pound car for 55 miles at highway speeds. In comparison, a current lithium battery pack for most ebikes can only hold enough power to move a 300-pound bicycle at 28 mph for that same 55 mile range. Point is that lithium batteries are still an engineering cluster-f when it comes to energy density. I just don't think they're "the answer" for worldwide energy production to replace petroleum. It also gives a real appreciation for the energy released by the combustion process. And yes, a well-thought-out e-bike.
You need to really decide if you want to trust the warranty. After my experience with Ride1up I would NOT purchase. My suggestion go to your local Bike Shop and choose something they directly sell and support. Spending a couple hundred extra will go a long way, or you can be like me and have $1600 of a reminder of how poor an experience you can get, DONT roll the dice with the slick marketing.

The top assisted speed of 20MPH is on purpose; it lets it be a class 2 e-bike, which makes it legal on sidewalks in most places.
