Great tips Cally. Thanks. I'm much more interested in working on reeds than throwing them out if I don't like the sound. I just tried 2 of your tips. I was using a reed that sounded pretty airy, and I could see a faint mouthpiece outline on it, so I decided to try my imitation reed balancer (a sharp blade on a utility knife). I dragged the reed lightly across it a few times and it now sounds beautiful! I did the same thing on another reed and did the sandpaper trick on 2 others. They all sound better! This will keep me going until I can transition to the reeds I'm breaking in.
@@callyclarinet Yes, it's straight across. It's like a heavy duty razor blade. Easier to do damage to a reed than the reed balancer if you aren't careful.
I LOVE the sound and resistance of the BG gold ligature. However, the screw can strip easily... I have had mine for two years and the screw just stripped. Bonade ligatures have a great sound too but I've never had one last longer than a few months before breaking. I'm not as big of a fan of the optimum sound, but my first optimum lasted 10 years before it broke (and it wasn't the screw). The optimum is also VERY secure and makes switching between b-flat and A very easy.
Hi Cally! Maybe I missed the video, but can you post the link to buy your Vandoren kit? Thanks! Great video and good to see Luke!
It's the Vandoren Reed resurfacer link in the description! 🎶🐱🎶

That’s great!! So glad it worked. What kind of blade is it that you have on the utility knife? Is it straight across like the reed balancer?

Great stuff. Really well done and helpful closeups.
Hi Cally thanks for the information, really usefull.
Wow, interesting 🤔👏
Bravo à toi.
Hi
Hi Cally! Are you happy with that BG ligature? Is it better than Vandoren Optimum?
