Pittsburgh Mini Tire Changer Hacks and How To

  • In this hilarious video, you can struggle with me changing out a turf tire on a Ryan Riding Lawn Aerator. This tire is arguably about as difficult as they come being mounted to a six inch rim and being a 4 ply tire that is 6 inches wide. It's a perfect storm for antics and swear words. These techniques can be applied to any wheel or tire size. I added a piece to the kit which is relatively inexpensive to buy, and can save you some grief when it comes to putting the new tire onto the wheel, and that is a 2 inch to 1/2 inch bell reducer found in the plumbing section of your favorite hardware store. There's stupid humor and sarcasm throughout, so you might miss out if you skip through! hanks for watching, and consider subscribing if you are new. I try to do the same stupid humor in all of my videos.

    Got to keep a sense of humor as I laugh at myself for thinking it would be easy to just buy the tool and mount my own mini bike tires !
    Tried it tonight and had to give up and search TH-cam for guidance in mounting new 3.5/4.0-6 tires.
    Ha , now I learned I need to buy yet another piece (the 1/2x2 ) to help !
    But Mike will keep me smiling !

      Thanks for watching Tom! The smaller tires can sure be frustrating to install. I have been doing some mini bike videos for my Coleman ct200u-ex, and it's a matter of time before I finally do a conversion to add a front brake, which will involve putting a rear rim on the front. This will obviously require swapping tires, so I'll be using this tool again for that. It'll probably be a while until I get to it though. My best advice, sadly, is to just stick with it. There just came a point of enlightenment when I figured out why the tire wasn't going on. It seems to vary case-by-case. I'm not sure if Tire bead lubricant would help. I've always used soapy water and never bought the stuff designated for this. Please let me know how you make out. Thanks for watching.

    Great video! I just finished putting on my second 15/6-6 tire for the front of my John Deere lawn tractor. The first one was a pain, but it went on. The second tire just wouldn't go on and was ruined in the process. The third was a charm but was a pain in the hasp and many 4 letter words echoed through my basement during the process. I mounted them, by hand, and never want to do it again, so I'm looking for a small tire changer like the one in your video. Thanks for the jokes and for demoing the fine Chinese product!

  • @oldfart269
    @oldfart269 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    It's nice to see you not having problems, as such, but showing that real-life situations are not perfect. It's easy to get the wrong impression from other videos, because the trials and tribulations are edited out, and the viewer is led to believe that the procedure really is that easy! You almost have me talked into getting a tire changer, though I'm not sure where I would mount it .

    You can spray starting fluid in the tire and light it. That will seat the bead. We use wd40 as a lube because it does tend to dry out quick. Great video and great tip on using the bell reducer! Thanks

      @@themostlymikeshow2582 hey, it ain't OSHA approved but it works. Start small, just spray a shot right around the bead in the tire. I then spray the outside of the tire in one spot. Take the torch, touch it to the spot that has the starting fluid on it and it will light the fumes inside the tire and the explosion will blow it on. Doesn't matter if it is a lawn mower tire or a semi. Have your valve stem in because you need to air it up as soon as it seats because as soon as the explosion happens the fire inside uses all the air, starts a vacuum and can suck it right back off. I'm 57 and have been doing it since an "old man" showed me how when I was about 15 and putting 15' tires on an old truck I started out with. Best of luck on your channel!

    I made a mount for this that its into my receiver hitch. It sticks out far enough that the tailgate will open and the main leg is adjustable up and down. I use mine a lot and I made another cup with a rubber gasket from an irrigation pipe that drops over the main 5/8" shaft so when I tighten the top nut it clamps the wheel from both sides with rubber. Wheels do not spin in it now. I also made me a T handled wrench that fits over the top nut so i can spin it down real quick and really tighten it. It works really good now.

    Add the bead breaker bar on the top screw on sleeve. Only the silver bar. Not the red actual down facing bead bar. When you rotate the tire iron to install the tire run it in a counter clockwise direction. Now that you have the silver bar attached to the top you provide clockwise resistance to the counter clockwise tire lever. It tightens the nut and holds the shaft firm and steady.
