Hell of a job! I'm impressed with your skill with that thing that doesn't even turn. You figured out pretty quickly that you can only take half a plow width. It seems you have a pretty methodical system for your driveway too.
Thank You@. My first electric car, 2013 Leaf and same color🌎🏕🌩🏕❄🌧a lot of snow this year 🍓🐬2023🛵✈ in sierra and Bayarea low elevation mountain tops 🥭🐡good Preparations.
Yes do it! Car is putting down 46 pounds of grip weight per inch of shovel width. So 3-4 inch wide blade would work. May be able to double or triple with studded tires.
I cringed a little as you strapped it on, I'd be really worried about messing up the paint on such a new car... I see you are very careful with it though, seems to work for your needs. I have a proper steel blade on a Dodge Neon I use & works great,I get like 7ft per winter so I end up with huge piles 4ft high.
DrLeePhD It definitely could if you are not careful. I haven't had any issues yet but as you can see I plow very slowly. I plowed even slower when I first got it.
Do those hooks and straps end up bending the fenders? I've used the same mounting system for bike mounts, and it bent the trunk door and left a gap where leaves and water was able to enter.
Good question. I haven't had any issues as the plastic clips are pretty weak and will break off if any significant force is put on them. I've broken 3 clips in 10 years/ 120ft of snow. They are available as replacement parts from Nordic plow customer service.
Thanks a lot to share this video. It is hard to find more details on this item from actual customers. I have also ordered one today to make plowing easier. I'll definitely add those round PVCs for smoother slide when backing up, and also extra padding. Thanks for this advice. One question was, can this plow scratch or dent the bumpers? But I see you already have answered this in comments.
Most modern vehicles have airbags that are programed to go off when something hits or pushes on the front bumper. Ever thought about that? Is your bumper all scratched up now?
Good points! Yes you must be careful! I typically plow at 1-4 mph. Airbags won't be set off below 16mph. Bumper has lost glossiness at plow contact points. This is not for anyone who is cosmetically concerned about their vehicles.
In our experience it was cheaper to insure a 2013 LEAF than our 2013 Accord. Lots of factors at play but I believe the biggest were safety and reduced likely milage due to reduced rage per "fill up".
Thanks! You'll love it! Can't find the part number but here is a link to it on Nordic's website. It is the 79" auto plow. nordicplow.com/shop?olsPage=products%2F79-auto-plow-by-nordic-plow&page=3
I’ll give ya that electric had more torque but it certainly doesn’t have more weight. The battery’s weigh far less than a tank of gas and the electric motor weighs less than an internal combustion engine. Then add to that the plastic body work and the short frame, you don’t have near as much weight as say a truck or and suv which would usually be used to plow snow. Also be careful when you get to the end of the driveway, without the ability to lift the plow you risk putting now into the street which is illegal.
True it weights less than a vehicle normally used for plowing but it weighs more than a similar sized gas car(3,291 lbs[648 battery]for the leaf vs. 2,354 lbs for Versa). Good point on not plowing the public roads. I live on a private road so no issues but most people would have to be careful of that.
Yaser Alshammaa Awesome! I got mine on eBay but it looks like Amazon has the best price right now. Mine is the Nordic auto plow for cars 79" straight blade. Let me know if you have any more questions.
so you said that once the plow is hooked onto the vehicle, like I saw when the car was in the garage, this CANNOT be raised or lowered and from what it looked like, the bottom of the plow was actually scraping on the ground, so if you cant lowere or raise it after its put on, how well does that bottom portion of the plow actually hold up from all of the scraping on the pavement, and since you cant raise the plow after you go forward as far as you need to, when you reverse, really looks like snow can Really build up on the backside of the plow and I dont know if that could be a good thing or not, Also Noticed that those straps, a number of times when you pushed the snow, pretty much ALL of them, really never stayed tight, menaing the straps loonsed up quite a bit but then tightend up again when you put the car into reverse...... I would rather have a plow that can be actually raised and lowered AND turned left and right, just like all those regular ones I see on the fronts of trucks..... and secondly, those 2 BIG bars that the straps and the plow are attached to, are those pretty safe meaning, after all of the straps are hooked up to their correct positions on the car and tightend, is there any way that those bars on the front of the car, could they somehow move back and forth and possibly do some damage to the front of the vehicle by hitting it???????
Correct, this plow can not be raised. When you back up you should only back over places that you already plowed. This is meant for your own house. Judging by the four years that I've used it I'd say the blade scraping will last about 30 years(mostly slides on top of the packed snow). Keep in mind if commercial that would be less than one year of use though(30+ driveways all season). Think of this as a budget option to replace shoveling or snow blowing, but not as a replacement for a commercial plow.
Lok Tom you would have to be going quite fast to damage anything that would be covered by warranty. I'm then guessing it would be considered a collision and not be covered by warranty.
Lok Tom good question. Lowest speed for airbags to deploy is hitting a fixed object with no give at more than 8mph. So as long as you stay under 8 you should be fine.
I was waiting for the airbag to go off! I'm sure that the CVT transmission on those Nissans would last for about 2 years before you will need to change the belt.
eraldorh There should be very minimal risk of denting the bumper as long as it's not pre 1980's. The TPO bumpers of today very impact resistant due to government mandates from the 1970's.
It's actually funny watching it plow but at the same time it actually worked... Thank you for the video
So cool! Unique video and i see on top of this you have 2 Leafs! I shared to many Facebook groups related with electric cars!
EV Addicted Thanks! Yep after you get one EV you get addicted and want another.
Hell of a job! I'm impressed with your skill with that thing that doesn't even turn. You figured out pretty quickly that you can only take half a plow width. It seems you have a pretty methodical system for your driveway too.
Sorry! I totally missed this comment. Thanks! Yes it takes some planning/trial and error to figure out the best way to plow with it.
100% torque at any RPM, Baby!
This is the coolest thing I have ever seen!
Thank You@. My first electric car, 2013 Leaf and same color🌎🏕🌩🏕❄🌧a lot of snow this year 🍓🐬2023🛵✈ in sierra and Bayarea low elevation mountain tops 🥭🐡good Preparations.
That's cool I was thinking to tighten your shovel to my bike

This is AWESOME!

omg, I broke my eyes and brain watching this...
cool, had no idea this was a thing!
...WHEN THAT AIRBAG GOES OFF BELIEVE ME YOU DO NOT WANT TO BE SITTING IN THAT SEAT!
Yes good reminder to always keep it under 8mph so that isn't a possibility.
@@timobrien4281 ...ONE THING FOR SURE ...YOU'LL BE THE FIRST TO KNOW...
thanks for sharing this video. have you tried it on a gravel driveway? I am considering purchasing this but my driveway is not paved.
I would get one but my neighbors already make fun of me enough
And I live in Phoenix
this seems like a great way to wreck your front bumper.
DrLeePhD It definitely could if you are not careful. I haven't had any issues yet but as you can see I plow very slowly. I plowed even slower when I first got it.
DrLeePhD I was thinking the same thing this is stupid🤪
@@techontesla5284 I think it's Brilliant and I didn't see it bend once.
I love it... good job!!!
ha , this was like watching someone walk their housecat on a leash . it Worked ! Somebody make a dirt till attachment for the apocalypse
VERY GOOD DEMO THANKS. GOD BLESS YOU.
That thing is genius.

How crazy!!

Wow Thanks God Bless
The snow looks so delicious 🤤
Looks like fun!
Add a ectrical which then you can turn it, other wise great video
I think I will just hit the 4x4 button and save my money. Thanks for the awesome video.
Nice! What is the price of it?
When I got it in 2014 it was around $600 with tax and shipping.
Is car insurance for EV more expensive than gas car?
In our experience it was cheaper to insure a 2013 LEAF than our 2013 Accord. Lots of factors at play but I believe the biggest were safety and reduced likely milage due to reduced rage per "fill up".
This might work well on my old AWD matrix.
Definitely! The AWD would really help with heavy pushes. For my FWD it makes a big difference if I have snow tires on for very heavy snow.
There are hitch-mountable plows that make much more sense...
If you could tilt it to the right or left about 20 or 30 degrees would be better.
What is the part number for the plow, I would like to purchase one. Thanks for the video.
Thanks! You'll love it! Can't find the part number but here is a link to it on Nordic's website. It is the 79" auto plow.

WHAT IS THIS WITCHCRAFT?!?!
Actually, this is quite cool. I could have really used this back in Colorado.
You should have left the beeping on, it would have been a real plow ;) ;p
How many inches of snow can it handle?
light fluffy snow over a foot. heavy wet snow 4-6 inches
Watch out for airbag deployment. Lol. Does appear to work for you.
Thanks! No worries I make sure to stay under the minimum speed of airbag deployment.
Works best with a beater car.

Amazing. I am thinking to buy one. Where can I find one. Here in Massachusetts it’s so necessary. Ty

And yes the straps should only be tight when you are backing up. Not while pushing.
What if you hit a concrete curb or a snow covered log with that plow?
Can that void your car warranty?
Lok Tom you would have to be going quite fast to damage anything that would be covered by warranty. I'm then guessing it would be considered a collision and not be covered by warranty.
Would there be any chance of exploding your front airbags ?

One of the best things about EV's they don't have a transmission. This thing could push for a million miles!
What’s next one of them little plastic cars that you get for kids! Who knows probably has the same amount of power!
tim pike I bet the little Tesla one with the lithium battery could plow some snow! Same battery just smaller. th-cam.com/video/Pcn01JPAnpo/w-d-xo.html
What?
Looks like a good way to dent your car.
eraldorh There should be very minimal risk of denting the bumper as long as it's not pre 1980's. The TPO bumpers of today very impact resistant due to government mandates from the 1970's.
its being held on by window wipers.....
And yet everyone thinks it will hurt the bumper...
This is a joke...right?
I didn't believe it either. Just starting winter number 6 with it!
Dude that car is next to a Prius 😂 you need to turn into your man card😂
This is real I thought it was a joke or spoof. Got to be kidding me there’s crap like this out there n people buy it lmfao
Never stop innovating.
And if you mean the money I bought it 4 years ago for $500 and it's saved me $2000 on plowing so far. Decent return on investment.
