Get some 4F BP and indian dark aluminum powder and mix it together, 70% BP 30% aluminum and you got some SPICY salutes
Why not lamp black aluminium?
@@SICBUM To be honest i dont know what that is, most people use indian dark and german dark aluminum powder, you can also grind your own aluminum into a dust and mill it, but using commercially prepared powders is generally recommended for safety and consistency in pyrotechnic mixes.
You can tamp down and compress the Black Powder with a wooden dowl for better results.
Flashpowder is very better as blackpowder🎉
You see the ring it made? That’s cause the firework exited out of one side of the tube because hot glue is weak, you want it to break in the middle of the tube where the cardboard is, it will be much louder and firework breaks will be round. I’ve tried all this this is how I know. Roll up paper into a cylinder and glue that to fit and use it as a plug, wood glue it in.
Couple questions, how did you make the plug/time fuse and get the timing right? And where did you get the tube, I assume it’s 1.75”
The tube is homemade using 60# Kraft paper and Elmer's glue wrapped around a pvc pipe until it's the correct thickness. The plug is unscented cat litter (bentonite clay). I made some tooling to press/pound the clay into the tube. The time fuse is Chinese time fuse which burns at 3 seconds per inch so about an inch works, that's a bit of trial and error. And yes it's close to 1.75" so itll shoot from any consumer mortar tube.

@@wombatt360 as a bulking agent, coating rice hulls lets you fill a larger space with a smaller amount of black powder.

1" length of 1/4" chinese time fuse.

Rice hulls. Just added to provide a little insulation between the BP and hot glue. Def not needed.

Could the lift charge be made larger to shoot the salute even higher? Yours was very nice and the results were amazing for the simplicity of design. I guess my question is, can the lift charge be made stronger for some serious height, or is there an adverse effect to making the lift charge stronger.
Sure as long as the shell construction can handle the extra pressure. Ball shells are great for a lot of lift due to their shape.
If you want more lift just use a longer tube or just add a little more lift charge. Dont over do it cause it might explode i inside and cause too much pressure
@@rapidoxidation Is it just a piece of fuse going through the plug between the lift and shell? Or do you use the same fuse to light both lift and burst? Please forgive my questions. Im just an old fart who has an inner pyro bug. I live in the middle of nowhere on my farm. I enjoy making my own black powder and using it in my antique cannon for holidays, as well as my black powder guns. I make small BP rockets with my sons, and we enjoy doing little dumb stuff like this. I ask these questions only because its obvious you have experience in it. Again, thank you for any tips and tricks.

@@budddove6480 it could be fuse but make sure its a high quality type of fuse. like time fuse is perfect. also make sure to plug it up and glue to secure it well so the lift charge doesn't light the break charge due to a leakage going through. make sure it is strong enough glue so it can withstand the pressure and not blow up quickly

Quick question,, is it better to pack the bp down or lwave it loosely? I made one and i compressed it as much as i could by hand. Hopefully it'll blow
Just leave it loose if it's for lift. If it's for burst the more you can confine it the better.
It's a balance. The looser the granules are the easier it is for the hot gasses to spread between the kernels and propagate faster, but there more you pack it the more bp you have, which means more overall energy. For lift there is no space constraint so having it loose is ideal, and depending on how well your shell can hold pressure it can be either or, but In my experience loose is better. It's the same reason why flash powder salutes are so much louder than bp salutes. Even though a flash powder will put out less energy than bp, the sheer speed of the reaction will be enough to blow the shell in an extremely loud fashion.

FP wont work as lift, you'll just blow up the shell and tube.

I make them myself since they arent really something you can source easily. There are a lot of tutorials on YT.

What was the more the black balls in a plastic cup stars that makes the canister shoot up correct also can you use flash powder besides black powder? I want to make a preload single shot I just don’t know what would make the cardboard plug shoot out of the 3 inch tube I got stars would make it shoot out correct?
The extra balls that came out after the lift was blue stars to replicate a mine effect. You cant use flash over black powder because flash burns too quickly and will just blow up whatever tube it's out in. You need a slower exploding compound to push instead of explode which is why you use black powder. You cant use stars for a lift powder either.

@@danger3_255 Rice hulls are normally used to bulk the volume and space out the black powder which will make it burn faster which will make them sound louder or just as loud with less BP. In this video the hulls don't do much as the BP is not a powder and cannot coat the hulls and is not mixed anyway.. in consumer shells i have never seen hulls used, mostly used in more homemade specialty bigger shells.
