I agree, I'm wondering how they're going to get anything else done at this scale in the near future, because the company has to be bent on locking them down and keeping them on such a tight leash after this. Granted, management/security is a skeleton crew (which never made sense to me), but I'm sure there are harsher things they can do to these people, possibly use the "clean slate" function and wipe their chips. All 4 of them are now a major liability - they know too much and there will be serious retaliation. The thing I don't understand is what Mark (I think it was him) said in Ep 8, something like "Remember, this is just step one of the plan" or something like that. What the hell did they think they were going to do after this? They pulled out all the stops and had impossibly good luck to be able to put this plan into motion and wake themselves up on the outside, and I can't imagine how they could pull this off again any time soon. Also... what about Graner's murder? Aren't they going to wonder how the MDR people got his key card and investigate? It shouldn't be hard to figure out that one of their outies might have had a hand in his death or worked with someone who did.
Thanks for almost remembering my previous long comment about biotech companies. Here’s a copy/paste refresher: “If you read “The Macrodata Refiner’s Orientation Booklet” attached to “The Lexington Letter,” you learn that Lumon started as “a salve company” (and the letter writer knew them as her deodorant brand), but now it’s a biotechnology company. Googling biotech, you’ll learn a few interesting things, like how goats have played a significant role in biotech research, from cloning to antibody harvesting to “farming” pharmaceuticals inside their bodies. You also learn that biotech is divided into 4 colors: red is medical and health, yellow is food and nutrition, blue is aquaculture and marine, green is agriculture and environmental. That brings an interesting level to the different badge colors in the office, as well as why there would be a goat room and a plant room there. You also learn from the letter writer that there might be real world consequences to those numbers involving some sort of industrial sabotage for competitor companies (recall the team discussing they’re not killing people).”
My newest theory to add to my previous comment about biotech is that Lumon is controlling the water supply. Lumon’s logo is a water drop, they focus on the water tower with that logo A LOT, Ricken’s “non-dinner dinner party” where everyone was pretty vapid featured only glasses of water around the table, and the Macrodata Refiner’s Manual explicitly states that workers must wash their hands 10 times per day, which is excessive for any office worker in an 8-hr day, so what other purpose might the water be providing? Also, when Petey starts to really break down in Mark’s shower… did the water play a part in that? And the painting that Burt is hanging in the hallway at the water cooler when Irv walks up is called “Kier Invites You to Drink of His Water” … does the water contain a chemical that keeps everyone calm and compliant? The writer of the Lexington Letter states that the clues are in the MDR manual and it seems like water clues have been peppered throughout season one, so I’m looking forward to seeing where that may go.
@@theshecreaturegreat critical thinking!! Thank you for writing all this out! I just binged season 1 tonight and was devestated to find out that Season 2 isn’t even out yet. I can’t imagine having to wait 3 years for another season. Waiting til January is going to be torture as it is 😂
I think the reason Irvings outtie is painting the dark hallway with the elevator is because he used to hold Milchicks job (him not being severed back then) and maybe he has PTSD from something he saw at work and then chose to get severed. Also. . . when Mark watches that band play, some of the lyrics are something like " fuck you Lumon you took my first love " this was foreshadowing the fact that Lumon took Mark's first love. The people at Riccans house, they are Severed. . . I found it quite obvious, they act very strangely. On the map that Petey drew, where it says "people live here" I think what it means is that where the 'outies' live is actually still part of Lumon. I see a lot of theories where people think the place where "people live here" on the map is where Gemma goes to when she goes down the elevator, but giving that she said her life has only been 107 hours long or whatever. . . that just doesn't make sense.
I am thinking the programs are: Elephant - go back to having some memories? Maybe of their childhood? As it's said elephants have a good memory Goldfish - erases recent memories Clean slate - wipe the Innies memory Lullaby - create new memories while they are sleeping Open house - put someone else's memories or consciousness into someone with a chip
Ohh those make sense. House is referenced in the bible as the place in which ones spirit lives. I'm thinking they take someone elses chip after their body dies and place it into a new body or "house".
I think Lullaby mode is what they use when Ms Casey isn’t playing the Wellness Counselor role or going through whatever testing initiatives they are running. They can put the permanent innies “to sleep” when they’re not in active use.
I think there is something more to Irvings military background. The clocks on the severed floor actually run on military time but in the lobby when entering and exiting the clock runs on 12 hour time. There are plenty of shots that seem to put focus on the clocks on the walls as well.
I think mrs Casey is in a coma I think Irving was in a coma then they chipped him but when he recovered he was able to leave as an outy but remain as a worker these are the people who never leave there work selfs only come from the dark elevator because there body dosent work without the chip
You have a very interesting concept here, in that could a person live a 'dual life', even if their first / outie life was in a coma? Ms. Casey is definitely one of the more interesting questions we'll be hoping to get answers for in Season 2, and her 'status' in her outside life / post crash -- and how that all went down -- will hopefully be something we'll get some solid information on. :)
About irving. Its also possible because he has been there the longest he has an outdated chip in. And its not as strong. Therefor it didnt delete his memories as well as the newer employees. And maybe they are trying to get a chip made for full deletion. So you can start a society of perfectionists. Because he keeps saying keirs children. I also feel like the code they do for their jobs. They are putting together feelings for the clones they are potentially making. Or to make code so when someone gets severed. They still have some emotion otherwise they would have zero memory and emotion.
I’ve watched every one of your severance videos and I wanted to point out its hilarious that you rarely ever say Helly’s name right 😂 it’s always Helen, Hailey, Holly, or Heidi
We often record 2 or so videos at a time but don't release same-day, so comments we got a couple weeks ago mentioning this...were actually from the same recording session. At the rate we watch shows, I'm amazed we haven't referred to Mark S as "Master Chief" yet! ;)
One question that keeps bugging me -- why is Mark and his wife so clearly important to Lumon? Is it because his brother-in-law is such a major figure in resisting the severance process? Helly is obvious, it seems that Irv is being drawn in because he's aware, to some degree, of what Lumon is up to (keep your enemies close, kind of thing). But, as far as I recall, Mark doesn't seem to have any connection that would inspire the resources necessary to draw him into the fold. Edit: Second lingering question -- as y'all touched on, what's up with the security situation? It's effectively just one guy. To what extent is Lumon allowing our main team to succeed with their plans? It seems absurd to me that, as said, there's a degree of absurdity that it would be necessary to put these people through severance to protect Lumon's secrets when it's already so secretive, yet protecting said secrets is basically on one dude running through hallways. Meanwhile, "The Board" seems to be nearly omniscient and capable of communicating with Lumon authorities at will, suggesting they're well aware of what people in the building are up to. (Yes, I know they don't seem to see everything all the time, as obviously, Helly's suicide attempt is a big plot point, but they seem pretty aware of what's going on). I'm starting to think that Lumon is an attempt by AI to figure out what humans are capable of -- Mark of handling his grief, and whether he recognizes the source of said grief when introduced to it; Helly of effectively being an entirely different person as an innie vs an outie; Irving of coping with PTSD, seemingly unaddressed homosexuality, and how far his innie and outtie manage to connect; Dylan of just being a guy who wants to see his kids, and how far he's willing to go to do so. I'm sure I'm dead wrong on this, but hey maybe not. (It would make a lot more sense for them to breed pigs vs goats if my dumb theory is correct). (Yes, the movie you're referring to is The Imitation Game -- Turing is still responsible for the foundation of any modern computer, from your laptop to your phone, like 900 years after the fact).
One theory that’s running around is Kobel may be sabotaging Lumon by acting like an insider and getting more info on the severance chips. She covered up Helly’s attempt instead of reporting. While it could be read as PR or fear of losing a prime position, that gets somewhat thrown off with the home altar containing (presumably) her mother’s hospital bracelet. Mark and Gemma/Ms Casey could be the proof she needs that severance may not be all that Lumon cracks it up to be. The season 1 finale may also be suggesting some sort of resurrection protocol and ironically severance may help in achieving that. Ms Casey and Mark having a bond even though they weren’t conscious of their outie lives is why Kobel is interested in them. Mark was able to mold the cause of his wife’s “death” (the tree) even though he has no way to consciously remember.
I think the word scanners aren't real. In the Lexington letter, peg takes a coded note on a reciept from a store with presumably regular writing on it. She also took this in after they were upgraded and then came back 10 minutes later with another note. Not to mention, milchik would've know that Dylan didn't take the card home if the scanners were real or at the very least, nowhere as good as they act like they are
they cant go after any of the four employees after the incident with helly at the speech/party. It would be way too suspicious if the 4 employees from that department with all the photos just shown just up and disappeared!
I think it's possible that "goldfish" refers to the urban legend that goldfish only have 14 minutes of memory, so perhaps it has the ability to erase the past 14 minutes from a severed person's memories. It would be interesting to see if this could apply to the outies as well.
Even though most shows don’t do it, it’s been established scientifically that a genetic clone does not equate to mirror image copy. The reason being if you go back to the good old punnet squares of middle school and think about how everyone has a ratio of likeness as far as their physical characteristics then it makes sense as to why a genetic replicate when going through its own gestation and development would still be likely to come out with different physical characteristics being present. So this my long winded way of saying while I don’t think they’ll go there, it would be neat if the goats were apart of them trying to perfect not just the ability to clone via genetics but get a mirror image clone as well.
You guys do a fantastic job with these videos, and like the show itself it deserves more views. Being on Apple TV exclusively limits its reach but it also makes it feel a bit more special and the community is a bit smaller and for lack of a better word “intimate” or cozy. I’ve watched completely through the show 4 times now and think I will watch it a fifth someday but for now I’m just watching all the theory videos I can find. It could really go so many directions that these writers are holding my imagination hostage in the best way. I have so many theories and connections that my whole body feels like it’s made of tin foil. Maybe someday the show won’t be exclusive anymore and surely more people will be able to watch it and enjoy it and watch along with these videos in the future. I just hope season 2 can stay on par with season 1 and not pull TOO MANY George RR Martin upsets, I want some resolutions but I hope they can continue to craft the mystery and keep it interesting. I think in season 2 we will learn Ms. Cobel is severed and see flashbacks to her life in the past and now and I also think we will see Helly and Marks relationship changes or reset. I just hope they have the same characters in MDR though I suspect that will change. Mark and Helly need to stay….also Irving and Dylan…I love them all! I would like to see more of the other departments including Optics and Design and beyond. I also am curious how the writers could tell Mark’s sisters story as a parallel to his own. Perhaps she had some trauma herself and then joined Ricken’s cult and married him. I can’t shake the feeling that Mark and his sister are actually more than siblings, they have made them seem romantically involved several times. I don’t know what that’s all about but I want to know more of her and Ricken’s story. The show has a large cast yet everyone is so carefully crafted that the show feels trim despite a great ensemble. In short I just want more more more Severance. My prediction is Ms. Cobel is actually her innie at home and her outie at work. I do feel like she is having a power trip and trying to make Mark completely forget his past. She wants him to forget Ms Casey and is going out of her way to make sure of it. Perhaps there’s some way this is actually “helping” Mark questionably and maybe we will see a rare softer side of Ms Cobel in her past. Does Ms Cobel have a COW BELL? The bell ringing app cannot be unrung.
19:03 they are doing some kind of government work but they dont have ts (secret or top secret) clearance.. hence the severance. Lumon found a way to secure some kind of sensitive government contract but cut out the middleman in terms of having all their contractors obtain a security clearance. You cant even be a janitor at Boeing or Lockheed without a security clearance..
The one thing that bothered me is that the company never deactivated the key card of the dead guy. At the very least, you would think that use of it would trigger some sort of alert. The guy was murdered investigating a breach. His murder was also discovered by the company. You would think that they would take that more seriously. They installed security doors over night to prevent employees from wondering about the facility, but they completely overlook the security access of a dead employee. OK (plot reasons I suppose).
My guess as to the numbers and what MDR does is that they're perhaps training some kind of emotional AI. Lumon is trying to make an AI that can intuit human emotions and has determined that the four base emotions they're looking for can be put together to make any emotional state. Or maybe they're trying to revive a digital version of one of the Lumon CEO's. Perhaps this person's consciousness has somehow been downloaded into digital form and the refiners are meant to decode all the raw data into emotional states.
The Global consciousness Project uses random number generators around the world. Data is collected from 70 of them, and the numbers are sorted in order of probability. It's thought that consciousness effects the randomness of the numbers, because when put into a graph, peaks of 'order' coincide with world events (shortly before it occurs), such as 9/11 etc. I'd guess that the shows PC's with random numbers are a mix of GC and Remote Viewing, so a more active role. The parameter numbers may be coordinates, and the center number the nature of the target. They'd need not know what they were targeting, as only the task-setter needs to know. If they get to understand it, they can be the taskmasters, and target anybody, including their bosses in season 2.🙏
when is the 2nd season coming back? cant wait for this! this is truly an amazing series. it has so much depth. its kind of where we as a society are or are headed to. so many of us also choose to live our lives like they do, behaving in auto mode with different self identities. its the graphic respresentation of the disconnection of our conscious (outtie) and subconscious (innie) or it could very well be the other way around where the subconscious is the outtie and the conscious the innie 🤔
What if there are other companies that are severed? What if severance is happening on a larger scale than Lumen or if Lumen is a larger company around the US or the world than we know about?
oh absolutely, it's definitely something which is happening in secret because the wife of the senator was severed to make her pregnancy easier (at the expense of her innie, of course)
I've noticed that Dylan does have a wife because the shoes behind him when we got to see him on the outside are women's shoes and also if Milcheck was with him and the other guy was operating the over time procedure i forget his name the security guy then who helped him flip the switches because it takes 2 people ? Mistake do u think ?
it didnt occur to me at all that this was similar to the stephen king novel "the institute" until about 20 min in when yall start talking about what theyre doing with the numbers and how it may have caused a crash. please look into that. its literally EXACTLY the same and im wondering how much they borrowed from that plot. its very different, in the book im talking about its gifted children (actually its tied into dr sleep/the shining and others too) being abducted and made to do weird tests and they are supposed to see numbers. once they are brainwashed enough they unwittingly do some weird magic shidd with their minds that can make events occur by staring at images and focusing their energy, all tied into the government and politics.
wat if miss casey wanted too leave mark... but this was the only way she wtought se could. or was a genine crash, they saved her and then servered her or they planned izt
Are there anymore thriller/suspenseful/Sci-fi shows on the horizon? 'From' was pretty good and I just started watching Outer Range which is decent so far...

Thanks for almost remembering my previous long comment about biotech companies. Here’s a copy/paste refresher:
“If you read “The Macrodata Refiner’s Orientation Booklet” attached to “The Lexington Letter,” you learn that Lumon started as “a salve company” (and the letter writer knew them as her deodorant brand), but now it’s a biotechnology company. Googling biotech, you’ll learn a few interesting things, like how goats have played a significant role in biotech research, from cloning to antibody harvesting to “farming” pharmaceuticals inside their bodies. I believe they didn’t know yet he’s murdered, just that they don’t know where he is.
I was thinking something along those lines as well. Emotional DNA for cloning.
Good catch on the shoes behind him; I definitely didn't catch that!
We actually do see Helly’s outie one time before the finale in either the 1st or 2nd episode when Mark almost hits her with his car.
Did Milchick help (or is otherwise responsible for) Petey get(ting) the “Break Room” tape out?
Please tell you guys are gonna start doing reviews for Outer Range!
it didnt occur to me at all that this was similar to the stephen king novel "the institute" until about 20 min in when yall start talking about what theyre doing with the numbers and how it may have caused a crash. please look into that. its literally EXACTLY the same and im wondering how much they borrowed from that plot. its very different, in the book im talking about its gifted children (actually its tied into dr sleep/the shining and others too) being abducted and made to do weird tests and they are supposed to see numbers. once they are brainwashed enough they unwittingly do some weird magic shidd with their minds that can make events occur by staring at images and focusing their energy, all tied into the government and politics.
What every episode of season 2 focuses on the different protocols being used on the refiners?
Am I the only one who noticed the voice of the board was Mark?
Was it?
wat if miss casey wanted too leave mark... but this was the only way she wtought se could. or was a genine crash, they saved her and then servered her or they planned izt
Didn't Petey have his family too? His wife and kid,June?
Are there anymore thriller/suspenseful/Sci-fi shows on the horizon? 'From' was pretty good and I just started watching Outer Range which is decent so far...
Did you see the expanse? One of the best sci fi shows ever in my opinion
@@TheRidg11 Absolutely. One of my favorite shows ever. I was so sad to see it end.
What’s the deal with Mark S in a red jumpsuit ?
This is so much like s c i e n t o l o g y, uneccessarily
possibly an intentional criticism

Across so many videos, it’s hard to keep hearing these same blatant mistakes. (๑ ˊ͈ ㅿˋ͈ )
