    Thanks for the background about this unique bike and totally agree with you about it's riding characteristics. I'd say it is more controllable power vs typical 450s and it is definitely more challenging to turn in tight technical stuff such as switchbacks. Like most things with riding, compensating for these drawbacks makes you a better rider. I call mine a Frankenvarna and abuse it pretty often only to revive it in my lab....

      Hi,
      Most parts from the near identical SWM 500 will fit your bike.
      Pretty much everything except for 500cc barrel and piston.
      In Australia, most Sherco dealers are also SWM dealers.

    dont ride my te511 as much since getting my 2 stroke, but always thought it performed very well. absolutely love the CTS system, set up the chain just like i would my BMX, haha. hardly ever needing to deep clean the air filter is awesome too.

    Great to see you still have her. My 511 developed a running issue and after spending over a thousand pound with various so called mechanics it still played up and would bog down completely when hot. I had to give up on her... 😒 Covered her over in 2015.... and she's still there. Poor thing.... hopefully someone one day will fix her.... she deserves it. Loved that bike.

      That's a bit sad to hear 😔
      Sounds like a fuel pump failure which is fairly common now that the bikes have a few years on them.

    I live in Broome, I picked one up here recently, it's done 8 hours riding, I paid $3000 for it. Bike looks brand new. The biggest disadvantage up here with the 449 is the fuel range of the standard tank, and the fact that you can't just buy a safari tank for it because the unconventional setup, so it's difficult to extend the range. It is an interesting bike to ride, the countershaft placement seems to work, and the rear suspension design, as it gets great traction at the back when accelerating.

    • @Danger_mouse
      @Danger_mouse  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Some people have made up a tube tank that mirrors the muffler to mount on the LH side.
      There's also a rear mudguard type tank you can fit on a rack.
      The US market main tank also held 1lt extra.
      Long distance touring really isn't what the bikes are suited to though. They require frequent oil changes, especially when run in Race Map II.

    • @patrickarchibald6787
      @patrickarchibald6787 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Danger_mouse hi. Yeah I've seen those rear mudguard tanks
      It's not really long distance touring you need the increased range for, just general trail riding. The riding is pretty open here and you tend to travel greater distances than over East, and it's hot here. You're talking 45 degrees. You run out of petrol out there in The Kimberley and you could die, it happened to a guy just last year. A lot of the local guys run larger tanks for trail riding just for peace of mind.
      Great bike though and reasonably quick. I had it up to 130 on a narrow dirt track a few weeks ago, and it had more to go. It felt very stable and totally safe at that speed.

      Genuine may be hard to find but worth a look for comparing price.
      When I did my own engine, piston wear was well within tolerance to be used again, I could have just done rings - but had already bought a piston.
      Just keep in mind that only gen rings go with gen piston and aftermarket go with aftermarket pistons 👍

      Glad to see you're still out there banging gears on that sweet Husqvarna TE-449! I still have my old 2011 KTM-300xc but it's time for new reed valves & a good cleaning! I'm still wanting to find a TE-449 or 511 like yours but no luck yet..love the CTS and surprised BMW didn't use that system.

      @@jeffflick2573
      Thanks for the message.
      Yes, still got a soft spot for the old Husky even after 3 new Shercos.👍
      On the CTS, BMW used it on the G450X which was the donor bike for the 449 engine. Their implementation of the system was a bit more difficult to deal with come service time, as their one piece swing arm pivot bolt went right through to counter shaft and frame.
      Huskystwin stub pin pivots were a much easier way to get to the front sprocket come service time 👌
      All the engineering and claims of extra traction certainly made climb hills well, but the conventional linkage rear suspension on my Shercos are an easy match for outright grip.
      I guess it's their Bultaco Trials heritage shining through 👌

      It's close to 10,000km, all off road.
      (over 410hrs-the meter died)
      The main thing is to always have the correct level of quality synthetic oil and change it very often.
      I have done engine oil at 5hrs almost without fail, oil filters every 20hrs.
      Castrol Power 1 racing 4T 5W40 oil.
      One new piston at 237hrs.

    Hi, any idea what the gearing of the 449 is like compared to the te250/310 of the same age? You look like your climbing up slow stuff with ease where my 250 takes a lot of clutch slip as it doesn't have much grunt low down and then that also hinders some steeper/slippery stuff as I can't just chug up it in a super low 1st gear like a lot of the ktm's have... But then the ratio's are really close together between 2nd and 6th so it's pretty buzzy on the road, I've gone 1 tooth less on the back to make it manageable between trails but that's definitely not helping for the slow stuff as you would expect. Thanks in advance.

    • @Danger_mouse
      @Danger_mouse  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      449s also have a close ratio gearbox.
      I geared this bike down for use in the forest. It is just barely low enough, but then top speed is limited to 80km comfortable cruising and about 100k flat out without revving to the moon.
      If you are looking at upgrading, look into the Shercos from 2019 on with KYB suspension 👌

      @@Danger_mouse Thanks for quick reply! Ye does sound similar then, tbh I am really looking at getting a ktm excf350 but they seem to hold there money here in the UK as quite rare, more 250's and 450's. Saw a te449 come up on ebay and thought I would look at some reviews. Will keep looking, thanks for your advise. All the best.
