      Thank you so much for your kind words, I'm glad you found this video helpful! Unfortunately I have now "retired" from farming, at least for the time being. I have since moved on to a new season in life, pursuing a career in marketing. I still love having fresh flowers in my new home and supporting other local flower farmers!

    Hey Neighbor! I’m a flower farmer from Hutchinson. You did a wonderful job on your video. Fun personality and great info. Love to meet you some time when I’m in the area. Also, I’m also a flower addict to an insane degree. I need an intervention. This was my first year. How large is your garden?
    Keep on making your videos. Your adorable! No tears allowed.

      I have now "retired" from flower farming, at least for the time being, but I will always love having fresh flowers in my home!
      My garden space was about 2,800 sq ft altogether, but I could have condensed it down to about 2,200.
      Thank you for your kind words and best of luck to your flowery endeavors!

    Mary - You are a delight. I've been watching Cut Flower Farm Videos all day and just stumbled upon yours and what a treat! I'm a list and spreadsheet nerd so I obviously stopped surfing and gave you 100% of my attention. I brought out my computer so I could recreate what you were generously sharing with us. And with such a detailed explanation, thank you so much. By the way, you are hilarious and are going to have a huge fan club. This was a wonderful video and I hope you make more.

    Impressive planning...I really need to work on mine!
    Crops are generally planted running north-south, so that all rows get plenty of sunshine (like vineyards). You still have to consider the height of plants, so that tall-growers are north of the more petite species if they share a row/bed, but you get less shading overall, and more flexibility for allocating species to beds. This is especially handy if you want to be able to rotate your crops and succession plant.

    Great video! I have spent the last couple weeks planning my cut flower garden for next year & every time I think I'm done I'm like, "oh wait! I have to move that because it will block the sun once it grows to a mature height" it "that's not heat tolerant so I have to plant that a lot sooner.' There are sooo many things to conduct that you dont think about , until you're sitting down with a orb & paper, trying to figure things out!

      Hi there!
      Sorry for the delayed response, I have now "retired" from flower farming, at least for the time being, but I will always love having fresh flowers in my home!
      I actually just created an automatic crop planner that is based on the spreadsheet in the video, but is set up with formulas that will calculate dates for you automatically. All you have to do is enter some information about the crops you're planting.
      If you are interested, you can download it here: etsy.me/2P4ZioZ
      I have also uploaded a full tutorial for how to use it, which you can watch here to get a better idea of how it works: th-cam.com/video/YW2BsmBItnc/w-d-xo.html
      Happy planting!

    This is very helpful! I can incorporate your tips into my backyard plans. Would love to see a video on how you map your successions. Do you have a date for Rip out and replace?

    • @sonnenblume527
      @sonnenblume527  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Since my growing season was so short, it was very rare that a crop would have time to mature, stop producing, and leave enough time to be replaced with another crop. If I were to factor that in to my plan, I would probably add another column for each succession with "rip out date," that was a certain number of weeks after the "maturity date," based on my experience of how long a crop produces after reaching initial maturity.

    What is a flower?
    A flower is a expression of happiness,a beautiful kiss , mood .... Etc. A flower is a language of nature which convey a message of celebration.... Do you think so?

    Great content!
    I'm just in the process now of trying to organize a cutting garden for myself. This info is very usefull and love your spread sheet!
    My main concern, because I'm so new to this, is accidentally missing my pre-treatment window (i.e. pre soaking, statification, etc...). Is this something you've accounted for in your spreadsheet, or do you know it all by heart, so don't need to include it? Also, my last frost date is a span of 9 days. Do you usually use the first, last or middle day for guiding your planting schedule?
    Keep up the great work!

    • @sonnenblume527
      @sonnenblume527  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi there! I'm glad you've found this helpful!
      I personally didn't include pre-treatments in my calculations because I only had a few crops that required them. I usually keep a "notes" section for each crop and I would include that information there, but you could definitely add a column for each succession for pre-treatment dates.
      As for last frost date, I might plan to transplant certain plants that I know are hardier earlier in that last frost time range, but hold more tender plants until the last date or even later, just to be safe.

(You can google Deserae Turner for her story.) Anyway, I know comments help. So here is mine. I’ll subscribe and check out your other videos soon. Keep up the good work. 😊♥️💐
