About this game:
Baba Is You is an award-winning puzzle game where you can change the rules by which you play. In every level, the rules themselves are present as blocks you can interact with; by manipulating them, you can change how the level works and cause surprising, unexpected interactions! With some simple block-pushing you can turn yourself into a rock, turn patches of grass into dangerously hot obstacles, and even change the goal you need to reach to something entirely different.
This is probably the best advertisement for a puzzle game ever. People just getting so frustrated that the puzzle didn't get solved they go out and buy the game themselves.
This is basically how NL markets games. He is a marketing genius.
That's why I bought Slay the Spire.

Rusty Shackleford I also bought slay the spire for this reason. I also saw a lot of people on the subreddit commenting the same thing back when the first episodes came out.

Well, writing code is slightly different. You have direct control over all variables for one, rather than “pushing the variables around”
And writing code isn’t exactly a logic puzzle. Not to say I don’t see where you’re coming from.
Forest1538 While I don’t necessarily disagree with your statement, I’d say there’s definitely a strong correlation between Logical Problem Solving and Programming, at least in terms of back-end development
His inability to put 'and' or 'is' before Baba is hurting me internally, but the sheer level of commentary is making up for the pain in a way.
That is the way of the Egg.
The reason he's not, is because for some reason he has convinced him that he is baba, when in reality he is "you". He mind flooded himself earlier when he moved the you and died.

Played about 2 hours of the game after watching this video. The game is really good at making you feel like you tricked the game, even though you did the intended solution. Looking forward to watching NL repeatedly beat his head against the wall. Spending over 10 mins on crab is baba is you doesn't really bode well for the rest of the series.
I fucking lost it when I combined "empty is you" and I became every square in the level that was empty.
NL playing this is gonna make me want to buy the game.

btw in later levels text becomes a noun you can interact with
classic NL marketing. Making you want to buy a game so that you don't make the same mistakes he does

I love how he's instinctively trying to use the "IS WORD" mechanic that you get way way further into the game.
One of the coolest things about this game is seeing the different solutions people come up with to some of these puzzles.
I had no interest in this game before.
But after 29 minutes of this and my being frustrated like a child at how easy most of this looked, I just gotta prove to myself it's not as hard as Egg makes it look.
he got through the first world pretty easily, but everybody gets stuck on different things. and the game gets real fuckin' hard, trust me

OMG this is gonna be infuriating to watch.
Yeah, I mean already this game looks so easy and he's making it look so hard. Like the water level I'm watching right now. Instantly I go "what happens if you do like "wall and baba is you"" and use that to bridge a path to flag.
I think this would be incredibly amazing to watch, so far so good.

Baba puts the fur in infuriating.
You can tell when he just screams DESTROY BABA in the end, that he is no longer thinking rationally.

Another game where Egg completely forgets game mechanics between each level, and ignores the simplest answers and complicates things for himself.
Says the answer multiple times but has forgotten how the game works in the process of solving a single level so he doesn't know how to do it.
When nl asked if he could be baba and crab i almost fliped a table. And is right in the middle of his flipping screen.

Objects can be used as words in some later levels. Something like ROCK is WORD means you can use rocks as if it were the word "ROCK".

When NL tried "Star" "Is" "Rock" "and" "crab", I wonder what would have happened if Star had been the last block pushed into place rather than him having already transformed all stars into rocks when he added the crab.
I dunno if you already figured this one out by yourself but here's the answer: It turns star into *both* rock and crab, occupying the same tile.
This is frustrating as hell to watch but also very good for my self esteem
I literally bought the game just so I could solve Crab and Baba is You to free me from this hell. Good job, Egg
NL is an amazing puzzle game salesman. He intentionally fails to solve a puzzle to infuriate everyone watching. Then they get the urge to buy the game and finish the level for closure.
I love this and sts because they are basically NL's decent into madness

Wow. For the first Lake one, I shuffled things around to form "WALL AND BABA IS YOU" and then made a noble sacrifice of approximately 12 walls so I could reach the flag.

There’s nouns, there’s the actual objects, and there’s properties (sink, push, death, stop, you, win). You can’t substitute one for the other.
You said the solution to the last one so many times, yet never just put it in action.

This was very frustrating to watch at first, but since one of the things I was considering doing with the game is to get kids/my students to play it, it was worth the watch. I mean, now I can almost picture the thought process from their point of view...
At level 5 I tried lava is baba and it worked... All the lava is now baba
my solution is lava is melt and then all of the lava is goone
The vibes are so different from his current videos, it’s been so long since I watched old NL but this vibe is cozy in its own way

if you put both baba is you and baba is win you just win. It's possible since everything is possible on the first level.

The last half of this video reminds me of something I heard about playtesters of Portal, they apparently got stuck thinking one color was the 'in' portal while the other was 'out'. Likewise, NL has gotten stuck thinking 'AND' must go after 'IS' in a game declaration.
Most of the puzzles I got quickly and just sat waiting for NL to see it.

When he started messing with IS YOU I swear I had an existential crisis.
That moment when you find the answer and he can't figure it out. Crab and boba is you solves the riddle
And just like with Into the Rift, NL's incompetence makes me want to get the game and nail every puzzle. Man it is hard to watch, but at the same time so enthralling!

Most creative game I’ve played in a while. My only gripe is I got stuck on that side level Submerged Ruins and restarted only to find out that the game hadn’t saved.
NL is such a specimen. I can't wait for him to come to the realization on this puzzle.

After watching this, I'm actually shook that I figured out so fast that what "you" is is super flexible. They try to pound that into your head early on with these level designs.
