This guy speaks the best sense out of all the speakers I've seen on these videos on your page and others. Some people are still caught in a fog and don't realize they are in a fog. They think the fog is normal. Everything he has described about the human quality of African life. Now imagine the experience of a native African coming to America and encountering a society void of humanity but fueled by profit and exploitation and depressed and deranged still enslaved peoples. It's A HUGE Culture shock. And the hostility experienced by Africans from Black Americans overs the years in American society. Y'all just now waking up to Africa because of the Trump era, looking for an escape route. Africa's been there all along with people living life.

Wow! A lot of work needs to be done in Sierra Leone but knowledge is key.
Those folks need to be taught proper hygiene through awareness. They need natural medicines first and if course a few hospitals for emergencies.
Yet it has to start through the education system..and they need to be taught the laws if health. Eating more fruits and vegetables also is key, vegetables are a great filler.
That sounds like the government, NGOs and health workers.

@27:37 it's a little known fact that when Sierra Leone was about to become independent in the 1960s that some of the Krios of Freetown wanted Freetown to be an independent country (separate from Sierra Leone) - they filed a legal petition which failed
I have not been able to find much research on ins and outs of this other than an old news article
Nonetheless, I think Freetown being a part of Sierra Leone is working out fine. We just need to help develop the Mende, Temne, and other non Freetown areas so that Freetown is not the 1 all, be all for good services in Sierra Leone (and it'd reduce the population of Freetown which is needed)

I came across something similar decades ago written by a Fourah Bay & British educated historian. I can't remember his name. I think he said something like during British rule SL was essentially 2 entities. Freetown was a colony but the rest of SL was technically a protectorate. And that there were fears among the Freetown elites that they would be overwhelmed by the more populous countryside in term of political representation. But I am speaking subject to correction. I may be completely way off the mark.

Krios or Creole is an ethnic group designation given to those people who were transported from the United States and Jamaica primarily to Sierra Leone between 1787 and 1885. They didn't originate in Sierra Leone but most likely were enslaved from the Gold Coast [Ghana] and other African locations. They may not have blended well with the local population so it's understandable why they may have wanted INDEPENDENCE.

Even today East Europeans still move West. The last UK census found nearly 2 million Poles in the country. And Chinese & Indians are still flocking to N. America. Africans are human too. They are just as subject to the economic & other forces that pushes people to migrate as other races. This is not that hard to understand.

Exactly. Too much excuses. It's convenient to blame Europeans and colonialism but the sooner we start to point out the elephant in the room the better. Europeans were only able to plunder Africa with the help of local African rulers. After independence they continue to do the same thing. Poor leadership combined with corruption is the main reasons for the state the country's in.

Because when 1 party loses an election in some parts of Africa, they turn into insurgents, basically, and do everything they can to ensure the country does not progress until they get back in power(and then the 2 parties trade roles, with 1 trying to develop the country while the other tries to stop them)
And throw corruption on top of that and progress is SLOWWWW
The dirty little secret of development is democracy is not good for development. 1 party rule develops countries FAST, and then once all the infrastructure is in place, then you can have slow\cumbersome democracy(see essentially all of East Asia, and how it developed and Rwanda today)

Colonialism only happened because African leaders were complaisant and they revered the white man. I was doing research on Sierra Leone history and in 1833 a white man decided to walk the full length of the country. When he arrived at the capital of the Solima Kingdom, the king told the white man that because he has met a white man, he's a greater King than his father and grandfather before him. They were bamboozled by the white skin. The progeny of these chiefs and kings now rule as presidents and ministers. They continue to act as middlemen in the exploitation of their country.

Sierra Leone is rich in Gold and diamonds but the country never benefited due to western interference and colonialism. Sierra Leone not poor if Europe never get involves.

This is a very simplistic view of why Sierra Leone continues to underperform. Europeans were the ones who consolidated Sierra Leone into a single country. Before that each area had a chief and to move from one part of the country to the next was a nightmare because you would have to negotiate with each chief along the way. Corruption and poor leadership are the main reasons why Sierra Leone is in the state it's in.

Well, I don’t invite anyone home when that home is corrupt and dirty without willingness to change. There is no return to corrupt Africa. Not everyone is a business person. Some people are simple engineers teachers mechanics doctors. Also nobody invest in place that is so unstable prone to coups and corrupt . End of the story. If Africa really want people to move there there is a long way yo go in my opinion
