  • From the film Tomorrow, filmed up the road from my Grandaddy's farm.
A fine film with a deep character study by Duvall. I don't give away the major plot issue here, though it may appear there are too many spoilers here. Anyway it's Duvall's performance, not plot or action, that made the film.

An absolute classic. I remember first seeing it on "Encore" cable channel in the 90's and so intrigued.
I was born and raised in Mississippi and my dad's relatives talked like Robert Duvall's character and I personally say they were/are the most caring people and anything that is yours is everyone else's. It's wonderful to know I have an open heart and mind from being raised around people like this character.

Amen! After a lifetime away from Miss., I've gone back to the family land and won't be going away again.
(And Duvall should have done a few more Faulkner roles.)

This is an understated masterpiece, down to the choice of B&W.

The whole look and feel of this movie is very much that of the upper south in winter.
The movie was shot in Alcorn and Itawamba counties of MS. These are far from the poorest rural areas of MS.

Duvall's character study is not only fantastic, it's also one of his favorites, even if a bit heavy-handed in the dialect department. The detraction from the film is that nobody else has anything even close to this particular accent (which I would say sounds more from the lower hill country of Tenn, not mid-Mississippi), not even his father. It would seem that everyone in the area would sound somewhat similar. So, this inconsistency is a bit jarring in an otherwise fine film.

Billy Bob Thornton said he stole so much from this Duvall role for his own role in "Sling Blade"... Yes, so much Faulkner would have loved to seen Duvall in..

Faulkner's "Tomorrow" was also performed twelve years earlier on "Playhouse 90" on 3/7/60 with Richard Boone, Kim Stanley, Chill Wills and Beulah Bondi. See /8R9YfOBOWiw
