Does it have a hotspot which u can connect and cast your mobile screen without using internet/ mobile data like in smart TVs or is internet mandatory like Chromecast...
It's ok that you can't download Amazon Prime but you can still open a web Browser and Play Prime Videos from there

Got one recently, and it works great. Wifi connectivity was impressive. Its a great box for streaming apps like Netflix, Disney+ , Peacock, and light game emulation (Ps1 and older)
Can you confirm that the MI box S does not support Prime video?

great vids. I always watch. Do u know why Hulu doesnt work on the MiBox anymore or is there a MiBox version of Hulu that will work?
I have two of these, the 3 and the s. I love the Chromecast ability and that Google Assistant is not always on (as far as I can tell haha). Compared to x96 based boxes it is much better. For the price you may as well get one of these rather than an actual Chromecast. I use a ugreen Ethernet adapter which makes it stream perfectly always

The Mi Box S that i have purchased has prime video and even remote has dedicated button along with netflix ...
They should have added more RAM , Asphalt 8 is laggy if played .. rest is fine .. pretty useful device with high quality audio video
Excellent review. Just ordered mine from eBay, since the SlickDeals $45 special at WalMart is over. Oddly, literally seconds after placing order, Google emailed an offer for a free mini Home Assistant (choice of four colors), a $49 value. Bizarre timing... coincidence??
FYI, got the Xiaomi Box S based on positive reviews like yours, but only after trying like mad to get my Chromebook to "play nice" with a Roku stick. (Yes, TH-cam and -- they tell me, mine doesn't... -- NetFlix have built-in "Miracast" casting features, but Chrome OS and other apps, including Chrome Browser, DO NOT ... they cast via the Chromecast API instead. All this competition and lack of standardization is annoying!)
Gonna be a fun toy, which I hope doesn't peter out prematurely like the Logitech Revue did. I'm eager to try out any new interconnectivity that the Box S may offer: IFTTT integration? Media Folder access via network? PlayCloud, Sundance Now, and other more obscure 'channels'?

Amazon Prime Video can be downloaded, side loaded, I have it my Mi Box S and the icon is not the same but it works awesome, the same.

Good question and sadly no. The Android TV boxes can't but a Chromecast can. Thanks for bringing it up.
Thanks for asking and replying, that makes the Mi Box a definite no go for me. Adding chromecast into speaker groups allows integration of wired surround sound systems with wireless smart speakers around the home, its a great solution.

As first I didn't see the value of an android TV box, but that is changed. I have now a TV with android TV on it and I love it. It has chromecast build in, but I mainly use the apps on the TV.
I can now use apps that don't support chromecast and the once that do, run better on the TV.
I installed a few apk's and even that works great.
Now I am looking ad the mi box s for my bedroom tv. I don't need the nvidia shielt power and I don't want non licensed TV boxes.
I have primevideo, but I think that it came after you made the video.
I have a Bluetooth and a ir remote. Both cams with the TV and the Bluetooth remote is nice. Don't need to sim it ad the TV.
Google home is build in, but it is limited. I don't know if this is because of my TV, but I have a home mini, so no problem.
I can't control my android tv with my Google home. But I need to look ad that.

Saying Nexus player wasn't able to pick up to the latest apps is an understatement, the last software update left it unusable, all apps start crashing while playing video and the only way to fix it for a while is to manually restart the device, and of course now there is no more support for it so it became garbage.

Yes you can connect a Bluetooth keyboard. There is a way to download browsers but you need to side load them and they are usually not formatted for Android TV.
Puffin browser is optimized for Android TV, so no need to sideload that browser.
Is it possible to watch set of box channel with this android box or we should connect set of box separately...

thanks for the video. You're one of the very few who does chapters with what you cover (Im tired of watching reviews just to discover they dont answer my question).
I get that most people need a box for netflix etc, gaming etc. But some (me included) have transferred all their dvd collection to external hd-s. (I have more space to live now...). And one function is not clear who covers is the possibility of switching between languages or choosing various language subtitles.
I just returned the 2nd box (wont give names) to amazon, because none did that. Not true, one asked me to convert the srt to txt or else it wouldnt play. Txt doesnt compare to srt so (...) get a life.

If you play a downloaded serie from usb stick, does the mibox remembers where u left of? (Example. 12min53sec in episode 2, will it play from there on, or restart episode 2?) and does it auto play next episode?

Great informative review but what about LONG TERM use of the Mi Box. Some cheaper boxes have problem safter a few months and need to be reloaded or reprogrammed. This is very important. Why buy something if it is going to go bad on you after a period of time? Thanks
