The thing which makes Dave Chappelle BRILLIANT is that his materials are thought provoking. He does not have to swear to make people laugh. He is an exception.
The first 55 seconds: The history of democracy in the United States. Particularly when we know he already chose which poem to read before this reading.
@@negativeindustrialStop stealing then. Oh not all of you do? What did Dave say about averages and statistics and generalizations? Aw shiet gotcha bish! 🤣🤦♂️
This performance made me a Chappelle fan. So simple, several laugh triggers. But in the end, when you really come to think about it, really think and see the world in it, it sure makes you want to cry. But it's so tragically absurd you can't cry, so you laugh!
i live by that statement, everytime i tell people i hate chinese storeowner next to where i live, i tell them what dave says with percentage and averages. lmao
His new special was not the worst, but for me the whole bit about the carebears, including the start by poking fun at a young audience member saying "blah blah the new generation blah blah not like the old generation" was trash.
Hey I've been trying to find you for a min... I really wanted to apologize for that bullshit that I did!!! Please Holla @ me I really miss your friendship.. Derrick 9733426039
Caesar Vespasian You act like black people don't deal with racism and racist "jokes" daily. And you probably laugh at all of them too, fuck off. The people who shouldn't be complaining now are the racist koreans being made fun of in this sketch.
I love how people are saying he didn't do his research, when at the very beginning he said he just wrote it backstage. So of course he didn't and I really don't think that is the point that should be harped on.
iam a white dude from germany and Iam pretty sure Dave made me realize that i love everything about american black people(since theres a difference compared to africans)..
riiiight, and the poet who degrades and silences another demographic to get a point across deserves nothing but praise from everyone who listens with no room for discussion.
I took it at him taking a swing at how wrong stereotypes are in general. The Korean in the story thought he was stealing because he was Black; he thought all Asians looked alike and gave them a stereotypical name. Dave is good at making serious points, but finding the comedy in it.
oooh I see. Yeah that makes sense ^^; it's so unfortunate that we have such a long way to go to settle our differences during a time when it's especially important to band together in solidarity
Living in Compton, CA...watched it and think of Sun Ja Do, Korean merchant who shot Latasha Harlins in their store in LA area. Girl had her juice but the owners mother thought she had stolen it and aimed a large caliber at her and accidentally pulled a modified trigger and girl fell dead....My experience here is he's a comedian telling a story from our real life experiences in the hood...they come to make money off poor and minority people but some still do not trust their customer base to be nice and smile as we enter. Don't be suspicious and stop following our people in your store or we'll try finding another, nicer, Korean or Asian American. Welcome to our world. ...comic relief delivered....Last line....true. Cops see us too the same way as they do sometimes. Nailed it to the wall, Dave Chappelle in this clip from his early days...He still knows the struggle but makes it funny so others will think more about the truth they just laughed with him about. Irony is comedy all day some say....most are Comedians. LOL Peace to all.
@bigban1989 lol but then the korean last name Bong isnt really pronounced like the bong in "beer bong" Its more of a long rounded "oh" sound. And im pretty sure i know a vietnamese guy named Phong which is read as Fong.
Probably because you're looking too hard for it instead of laughing with it. I'll point out one thing though, when the thing he said about not being the one to make generalizations, but working in averages and percentages, that spoke volumes. If you DO want to see him making profound statements, watch his Inside The Actors Studio interview, he's very intelligent. Also at one point they show a few of his jokes and they point out the significant themes in them.
I am Korean-Am & I've often been stared down & treated like a thief by K store owners, particularly when I was younger. It was later explained to me that they're like that to everybody because in Korea, it's not acceptable for customers to touch the merchandise w/out buying. I'm not saying that Koreans aren't racist; I'll be the first to admit that many times they are. But it is wise to discern between cultural conflict & racism. Otherwise, you are simply fanning the flames of racial conflict.
One night at 3 AM I went to the corner store I forgot why...oh, that's right, I wanted a bite because I had the munchies and I was high XDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD ... best verses EVAR !!!!
@scatteredress You're right, because of comedians like Dave we ALL think that every asian guy is a angry store-owner. Except for the ones that do karate, of course.
The reason that he stopped with his show was that people weren't understanding that it was a satire. It wasn't that people were angry about the racial commedy, but because people didn't understand that in the subtext of his skits there was always a critique of society at large.
we can't all live in complacent ignorance, kids. your words have power. we should use them with care. we don't live in a world of equality. racism and all the hurdles that accompany it still exist. if he was at any time concerned for the difficulty his kids will face in a discriminating world he wouldn't say "i don't like about 9 out of 10 koreans"

"If it sucks ..you ask for it" lol got to remember that
Best poem ever, still undefeated. Timeless
Even though I don't generalize, I do do %es and averages ~Genius
Better rhyms than Lil' Wayne
That can also apply to racial profiling. But that's considered wrong.
percentages*
Josh G congrats for understanding the joke
like 13/50
damn you know Dave is a god when he can crack a joke and still have a moral to it.
He's not a god . He's a human

I'm Korean and I love you Dave!!! You're brilliant and I get it about the Korean store owners. They're not all like that.
Obviously they’re not all like that
Yes, they are.

What's there to get? Good reason why Korean storeowners follow them around, they steal like crazy.

Honest, Raw Truth breeds the Best Comedy.
i fucking love you, dave.
haven't seen any bad material from him
goddamn youre right he just allways proves hes a genius
That's because he makes bad material sound good.

his last 2 new specials really wasn't that funny like his old stuff. I don't like this new clone version of dave 😂
@f1s7PumP that's what cancel culture does. No one is free to speak anymore.
This guy needs to get his show back
So true... everything he says has such a sting of truth to it which really makes you think
Because the store owners must pay the biils😢
Behind stage Wow his talent is unreal 👏👏👏
I love the last couple lines haha
0:15 Tommy from Martin?

"F" isn't in the Korean language 😂😂
The fact that Dave did not swear at all made me smile like an idiot :D
See you don't to swear to make people laugh xD
reminds me of Korean store owners from Spike Lee's Do the Right Thing,

How do you guys not get it? LOL?
That man is genius.
Was this before or after his special "For What It's Worth", in San Francisco? Because he does much of the Korean material in that special.
I love how people are saying he didn't do his research, when at the very beginning he said he just wrote it backstage. So of course he didn't and I really don't think that is the point that should be harped on.

I found out later on that Bucky from the Fat Albert movie was a comedian. This dude is awesome

KInda get the feeling that people don't understand that this skit isn't about race. it's about racism.
Which is in itself about race lol
Fong...Isnt a korean last name...that's definitely chinese
Thankyou
That was the single longest running sentence I have ever read.
