- Flint Castle, located in Flintshire, Wales, is a significant historical structure built by the English King Edward I during his campaign to conquer Wales in the late 13th century.
Construction began in 1277 and it was the first of a series of castles built as part of Edward's "iron ring" of fortresses designed to establish and consolidate English rule over the region. Flint Castle's strategic position on the banks of the River Dee provided a critical advantage for controlling access to North Wales.
Its unique design, featuring a distinctive detached tower or "donjon," made it a formidable defensive stronghold. Over the centuries, the castle saw numerous sieges and battles, particularly during the Welsh uprising led by Owain Glyndŵr in the early 15th century.
The castle's history continued to be tumultuous through the English Civil War in the 17th century when it was occupied by Royalist forces before being besieged and captured by Parliamentarian troops.
In 1647, to prevent its further military use, Flint Castle was partially dismantled, a process known as "slighting." Despite its ruined state, the castle remains an important cultural and historical site, symbolizing both the English conquest of Wales and the subsequent resistance.

I wasn't aware of my fascination for old castles until I discovered this channel. As always, great job of adding historical context and meaning to what could otherwise be mistaken as mere ruins!

The logistics required to sustain a workforce of 2000 men is as astonishing as the remnants of the castle .
What a beautiful castle 🏰

Love the drone shots flying along the beach. Great tour and a fantastic tour of the castle.
Really enjoyed this video exploring Flint Castle. It's incredible to think about all the history that's happened within those walls. The details about the different towers and the town that grew up around the castle were especially interesting. Great job putting this together!👌👍
Thanks so very much for watching 👀 appreciate you
We're glad you are getting a good showing for your premieres. For a second... saw Flint and thought Michigan LOL... def no castles in Michigan HAHA. Interesting how industrial it looks in the background of the ruins. Well.... back to editing more Chicago stuff that nobody watches... Chuck
Ey up me duck
What an amazing sight this castle must have been and very intimidating to the enemy. 👍🙂
Great place. When I was there without a drone it was hard to grasp the broad and rather flat expanse. Thanks for showing it in its full glory.
Thanks for the wonderful tour of Flint Castle, a truly unique and impressive historic fortress. It was interesting to read your description and to listen to your well-researched narration. As always the videography and drone footage were top-notch. A most enjoyable and informative video. Have a great week, Alessa & Brett! ❤❤

Cool castle ruin, I love, that you are able to getup in some of the towers. Stunning view over the area from the top of the tower. The drone footage looks amazing.
Brilliant episode, thank you so much 😊
Well what’s not to like especially when parking is free 😂 This is a fabulous castle and as always superb history beautifully narrated (didn’t think it possible but you get better and better at narrating Alessa) and of course kudos to Brett’s editing and piloting skills he too gets better, how is it possible! Flippin fabulous 👍❤️
Hi Cara
Thank you always for educating me even in the crowed chat box
I see this castle had a great purpose to be build by the sea...
I was puzzled to see how it was situated on the flat land until I hear your response.
The engineering, structure and architecture...it is one of the kinds.
Wow, love the spiral stairs...What the view...
Brett, You nailed it...beautiful finale. You made my day...
haha sorry I have to lay back watching with this muscle sore...
Very nice video frend great info on it 👌👌👌👍
just what I was in the mood for, thanks! ; )
Fantastic castle 😊
Great tour! Beautiful castle. Is the grass part of the roof? Watching the drone footage, it looks like that.
Not too far 😊
