Hurricane Alert as new system Idalia forms...

- The Gulf of Mexico, Florida in particular, is on alert for hurricane conditions this upcoming weekend. A new system named Idalia is forming, and it's now bringing flooding rain to Jamaica, Belize, Mexico, The Cayman Islands, Cuba, and Honduras.
It will lift north on Monday and strengthen into a hurricane on Tuesday. Then it will take aim at Florida. The most likely landfall location is anywhere from Tampa/Central Florida, up through the Big Bend of Florida. Mississippi and Alabama should monitor closely for any shifts to the west.
Hurricane Hunter aircraft will be inside this developing system non-stop, and that data will make the computer models more and more accurate.
Please stay alert throughout Florida, and in the Northwest Caribbean.

I was awaken at 3am in Montego Bay Jamaica with lots of thunder and lightning and also lots of rain. It’s been about 5 hours and the rain continues to be relentless. Thank you Brian! I needed this update!
Pretty clear that models are underestimating how quick the storm can get going if the center stays over the water.

We are having some good, much needed rain in Falmouth, Trelawny. The rain woke me up this morning & it is still going strong with no harsh winds! Where I live, our water has been cut off for almost a week due to drought. Intensification is a given in the low shear warm water environment this storm will be moving into. We cannot accurately predict the intensification of this storm. The wind will be out of the ene at 12mph so far in the gulf which is not nearly enough shear to impede intensification. Thank you Brian. We will stay tuned to your channel for updates.

This is forming much like hurricane Michael did back in 2018, and just east of where hurricane Opal formed in 1995. This could be be a real one!
