I totally appreciate your rundown of the differences. I had an album at the beginning of this mumble crap.... didn’t bump enough, no way worthy of earlier genre attention and I’m my own worst critic but shit... so much better than this mumble crap. Heart and soul put in it, one song was such a release I didn’t end up doing something stupid to myself. How many mumble rappers can say that? To reiterate, nowhere close to a J, Pac, Biggie, Em, Andre3k, Cube, Tech... not enough room to add the amazing, epic, timeless others... but so much better than idiots like xan or whatever his name is. I fully appreciate the breakdown of how it works. Thank you

Really though you could do both. When an album drops it's really only the more loyal fans of the artist can name every song on the album but only 2 or 3 really pop to the masses. So put out those 2 or 3 mumble club bangers and fill the rest of your album with lyricism. You could hit both crowds if you push it right.

I cannot believe this is a conversation as it was said a long time ago: A rap without a dope beat will not sell but wack rap with a dope be sells and sell real well.
As you have already stated it take time to compose bars that flows into a beat and has a good hook. However, it was once again said once before that the DJ was the most important part of the rap game. The same thing applies here in that the engineer that creates the beat is what is the most important and or the most profitable to a record company.
I am a poet ( published) and grow up in the spoken word era of the 90s. More and more people were being open to poetry as the method of delivery changed from books to stage. This cause the literary word to take issue because it was hard to monetize this form of poetry. Well until Def Poetey Slam and Russell Simmons came along. Even then it was hard for poets to find publishers that were willing to take that on.
Fast forward to now where the amount of effort to compose a rhyme in the Mumble rapper genre is very easy to write. It is much easier to accept the message as there is little word play. If you cannot come up with a word that is in the King English to rhyme you can now just simply create one.
Spoken word I the day tried to make poetry accessible to the masses by using less " big words" so to speak. Therefore you were not limited by your lack of understanding of complex metaphors nor where you limited to comprehend why that boy was in that poem and why he wanted to go home.
I can tell your firsthand that people would come to a show of mine and listen to me perform poetry. However, when asked what the poem was about could not be futher from my message. Did I try and correct them? Nope I did not because what they brought from my poem was their own interpretation. Of which they paid for when they purchased my book or came to my show.
The same can be said here with Mumble rap. That is what is being asked for by their audience. That same audience that pays the bills and put food on the table. Additionally, where Rap was Westcoast and Eastcoast dominant with a little bit of the Midwest thrown in there.
The south was not that well represented beyond the big name rapper from those area down south. Places like Mississippi, Alabama, Texas, Louisiana, Florida have different dialects and methods of delivery to their rap. Hip hop had room for all different kinds of rap. With that being said I believe this issue is that went Mumble rappers are told that they are lyric deficient they because defensive rather than admittedly say that yes, my rhyming schemes are not that complex compared to other rappers from different eras in time. This is why they fail to make their argument carry any validity. It is pretty easy to get ahold of lyrics of rapper of the 80's and 90's just as it is easy to get ones from this current generation. A simple comparison the rhyming schemes in the bars sould put this debate to bed for good.
What they ( Mumble rappers) should do is embrace their differences of delivery and content. Saying something like " yes I focus on the beat more than my words" which is ok to say without appearing weak.
