From Kathakali we learn the innermost nature and characters of the Hindu deities - more than any academic papers could ever teach us. This sequence here is one of my great favourites (another is the scene of revelation of the Lord Hanuman.)

This is my humble attempt with translation:
"Knows who the real reason behind
      Doe-eyed darling’s change of mind
For that hard offense I had done
In times we were happy and one
In response she may have thought
Upon me timeless grief hath brought
      Overcome with extreme affliction
Says this and that in recollection
      Upon recurrent hearsay
      Ear to ear imbeciles may
      Come kings on presumption
      Yet such a despicable action
Mellifluous one will not resort to
I say that through and through
      Countless has been my misdeeds
Equal to that is her ruthless words
In such pain she may have said that
Not way out her thoughts than that

Result of her frail laments definite."

It's the second time that I'm making a comment on this video. That is precisely because of the substandard comments that I saw being posted by some people. Well, to those eyes trained to watching the myriad of creepy content in internet, this video may seem creepy, but to those who have the taste and gift to appreciate fine art, this is a jewel. If you cannot appreciate this art form, kindly watch some other video that suits your taste. Please don't dirty this space.

Yes he is very senior talented artist. He is: Kala. Vasu Pisharadi.
In one story (Nalacharitham - Story of King Nala), he lost everything including his country, wealth and came to forest. There, he got separated with his wife and he was alone walking in the forest. Then he heard a snake crying for help from forest fire and he rescued that snake. But the snake bit him, turning is color to Blue. The snake was King of snakes and he did it purposefully for that King to get everything back later.

after getting separated from his wife Damayanty, King Nala recollects the wonderful memories of the period when they were together. He emphatically states that even though she may be angry with him for leaving her alone, Damayanty will never do anything which will hurt him. He says "athi parichithamenickaval sheelam" means I know her more than anybody and she will never do anything wrong.

Cursy Moomoo: So pleased you have come to understand differently.
I am sorry that the one who gave you the assignment didn't manage to prepare you for the viewing. You could have watched a documentary on the form first. They were around even 2 years ago. "Foreigners" have such issues as well as with other imaginative (as opposed to realistic) theatre forms from China and Japan too. Often, we give up on the 'weird' ie 'what we don't know' all too soon, well before it starts to yield pleasure. It helps to know the context and history too. Of course, at the end of studying it, you may still not like a form, but at least you will know, and be able to say, why rather than just finding it weird / disgusting / awful / a joke.
It is so very good natured of you to apologise as well for not knowing any better. Few would do that, so, well done on that too, if I may.
