    NOTE " I did find 2 tiny rusty ball bearings , in the debris!?!, Plus I've just sussed (I'm slow) that the knob itself does not move in and out as it's turned, it's the bolt that moves in and out within the knob. It's why I was confused about how the ball bearing stayed in touch with the indentations at the bottom of the knob (tee hee) holder, if that makes sense.

    Fantastic Graham finally some one has done a clear and concise demonstration to see what actually lives behind that Knob. Thanks so much for taking the time

      Yes thanks , I was intrigued like you. However I've just edited my comment as it has just clicked (pardon the pun) how the ball bearings hold position?.

    I discovered that a 6 point 46mm socket I had in my toolbox (from when I briefly owned a VFR800FiW) fits onto the preload adjuster knob, as long as you take the small plastic fairing off to give a bit more clearance. This makes freeing it up a lot easier when it has seized. I think the OE shock is pretty rubbish though.

      Cheers thanks Jeremy. Personally I've no real issue with oe shock (touch wallowy after 36k miles, and I've toured luggaged up and have had it on its ear many times on out rough roads... Maybe I got a good one haha.

      @@Grahamvfr I meant more the build quality, and mine didn't seem to change much when I wound the rebound compression in from max to min.

      @@jeremyr62 Oh yes I'm with you there... And even though its annoying that Preload knob seizes, it actually doesnt Preload the spring by more much.
      Your input is always appreciated Jeremy 😊

      Hi Graham, my shock did click when adjusted but as the shock was leaking, I replaced it with a Hyperpro. Like mentioned earlier, a world difference. I also did not select the hydraulic adjuster as the shock perceives a lot of heat from the engine and the adjuster will be the weak spot. My old shock started to leak oil and you know the position is in the middle of the back tyre .... not funny it that happens when you are driving. Very happy with my replacement.

      @@hbor77 oh yea a leaking shock is really bad news, pleased you spotted it before it was a safety issue.
      Heard good things about those shocks, good that you found it improves the bike. Weather been really wet and miserable haven't had a chance to really test my replacement yet 😕

    Thank you Graham! I have maintained the knob and found two balls, 2 springs and a pin offcouse. Actually it was enough clear inside since 2010 and after 32000 kilometres .

    Can't beleive how much effort to remove the knob, mine just fell off never to be seen again. i use a box spanner and screwdriver to adjust it now. first bagsy on your old cap... :D

      Well as you can see it's a bit knarled as previous owner had used grips on it.
      But I'll have a play for a bit, then I'll give you a bell on here, to say it's on ebay... Nominal buy it now price 👍

    Hello Graham! Thanx for the great content and info! I’m an owner of a 2014 model for 6 months now… do you happen to now any issues regarding the fuel gauge? 2 times now it has stopped updating the fuel level and it got stuck on the indication right below the middle line one time and 2 boxes above empty another! The first time I happen to be quite far from civilisation when the bike stopped from fuel starvation and it was an adventure getting back to a gas station! It was a very displeasing experience reflecting the build quality of a Honda motorcycle!

    • @Grahamvfr
      @Grahamvfr  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Oh gosh, not to my knowledge that's a tricky one, I've not heard of that before. Sounds more like a dodgy fuel gauge sender than the instruments though imo. Hopefully someone will read the comment,and may be able to advise .
      As you rightly say, not good for a Honda 😒😒.

    Hi Greham, how much did you pay for your preload shock and was it new or second hand. Also where did you get it from many thanks. Tom

    • @Grahamvfr
      @Grahamvfr  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@toma9246 Hi Tom. I was fortunate to get it from a friend of a friend, who's replaced his shock (after 10k miles) with a aftermarket nitron.
      However at the time I had noticed a decent one on eBay from a regular breakers at around £170 I think 🤔.

    Sorry Graham, totally unrelated to this post but I didn’t know where to message you. Is there somewhere I can? Do you have a vfr page? My question is do the seats change on the 2012 model onward? ?I heard they had traction control, a different seat and larger fuel tank. I have been offered an aftermarket seat but it’s coming off a 2016 bike and mine is 2010 and my main question is will it fit ? does anyone else know if Graham doesn’t? Thanks

    • @Grahamvfr
      @Grahamvfr  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm sure it will fit. Physically the bike no different, it's only odd changes .
      See link. I don't have direct communication
