I love how Japanese Airline pilots wear gloves on the flight deck. Does JAL also instruct their pilots to wear gloves too? Thanks for showing us how the Japanese carrier ANA operate. Regards
It's the sign for ground-controller that the left engine starts(and, the ground-contorrler notifiy the pilot if the engine seems to have a malfunctions or a trouble).
The main reason why they wear gloves is for hygiene purpose and maintaining a clean cockpit. These switch are constantly touch by thousand of pilots. Imagine the person before you scratch his itchy butt or picking his nose and now you go and pick up a bread and eat it. Yeah probably a good idea to wear them.
most orientals wear gloves for things like funerals, piloting airplanes, running trains, etc....somehow it's in their culture, not really sure why. seems a little odd to me.

very impressive and, thanks great professional pilots.
I love the white gloves. VERY professional. I wish Americans would adopt this practice...

it is not mandatory but it's been like a custom among Japanese pilots, and yes JAL and other airlines do provide gloves.

I miss the old days TokyoHaneda Airport is it the day of the congestion was the norm of the era

The reason they wear gloves is so as not to slip when controlling the throttle etc due to sweat on their hands
thanks 4 explanation but,how about if the pilot have sweaty hands?
OJ Simpson might get a gig as a pilot with ANA when he gets out! LOL!!
so they don't leave grease marks in the cockpit. And after they're done using the plane, they can sell it "like new", "mint condition Boeing 767".
No after take off check list ?
haha! Actually, I didn't come to think of that.
@solomonpilot767 all public transportation employees in japan must wear them. cheers
why they weargloves, can some one explain please!

just traditional style in japanese airline. to hold yoke (sweat)
Why do they have to wear gloves though, Hygene?
I believe its a culture thing, to show a sign of service (I am not exactly sure)
HANEDA REV. DEP
@Triple777ER Why not?
Flying Manually! Great! Sadly the modern pilots these days just turn on autopilot after take off............how are they going to be skilled then?
They wear gloves to honor micheal jackson!

That sucks man! How uncomfortable is that? And after 10 hours you will have sweat on your hands for sure... i would never wear those!
