  • In this special extended interview, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Bob Woodward discusses his celebrated White House journalism from Nixon to Biden; why Donald Trump poses a particular challenge to the U.S. and journalistic tradition; how he tries to build trust with sources and subjects while maintaining independence; how his legendary career took him from beats as varied as the White House, Pentagon, Supreme Court and 'Saturday Night Live,' and why he's found reporting is “always hard.” Woodward sat for the free-wheeling interview in his Washington home with MSNBC’s Ari Melber, and shared some archival and source material from his past books, for this new installment of The Summit Series with Ari Melber, featuring discussions with leaders at the summit of their fields.

Bob's work speaks for itself but unfortunately the man is stiffer than a 3 star general. A man responsible for a big part of bringing an administration down is as exciting as a wet newspaper. I can't believe any politician would think they could woo this man to their side. Nobody this dull is susceptible to charisma and charm. Even at the level Obama can exude. Trump thinking anything else makes him even more ignorant in my opinion. I am ready for a nap and I have only known him for an hour now. Even one of the most charismatic personalities MSNBC has is not able to inject any excitement into this interview.

I’ve been following Bob Woodward since the end of the Nixon era. I started while in a private school abroad in England in the 1970’s. The genius of Mr Woodward has led him to be an incredible author of the truth, giving detail and facts with his writings, opinions, and his books. It’s been a great experience listening to this interview with Bob Woodward and you, Ari. In each story told, I’ve appreciated you both, for your honesty, integrity, empathy, and style. Thank you both for your work. God Bless each of you for the work of many years and in your futures! 💜🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🥰

America HAS TO HAVE a 2-year vetting system that makes it mandatory for ANY person who wishes to enter public office at ANY level. This would consist of a curriculum of study including American History, world history, civics and constitutional law. How to represent ALL Americans and not just your party. Secular law with an emphasis on separation of church and state. Scientific method and WHY it works. What a FACT is. Advanced economics (if you're voting on money matters you should understand what you're voting for!) If they can pass this course, then they will receive FREE media coverage and campaign support. ALL donations eliminated as well as Lobbyists GONE! This way you know they want to help Americans and not just the people who want to buy them.
Give Americans their political FREEDOM from self interest groups! STOP the "Pay to Play Politics" Money should never be the deciding factor in a political race - America deserves intelligent leadership.

What would that crime be that could land him in prison? His Mar-a-Lago classified documents case is the only case that has that as a punishment. The 3 other indictments are simply BS opinion based cases.
What has Joe Biden actually done for this country as President that has made your family have a better life?
Was it giving the Taliban 140 billion worth of our military heavy tanks, & weapons & failing to evacuate all American citizens out of Afghanistan doing nothing about it for 5 months?
Was it ending the oil rights & exploration of natural gas & oil reserves in the USA that drove up gas prices?
Was it the Biden authorized printing of 3 trillion new dollar bills that caused the Bidenomics Inflation that made the cost of your groceries double?
Who could have known that printing more money & not raising taxes would bring on inflation?
Sure your so much better off with those lying cheating stealing democratic socialist adults in the room because they know what's best for you & never actually try to REPRESNT your important questions & views on politics.
Reasons why I left the Democrat party.

I also think that someone coming to that realizations has a choice of how to move forward. The choice depends on the ethics and values of the person. Does the person admit to making an error and try to correct the harm their error made, OR does the person lack the ability to admit making an error and instead doubles down and rejects facts and calls them lies and continues to cause harm. Woodward has the unique perspective of decades' experience in reporting on government. So it's very important when he says no national security advisors have ever come to a president and said "this is the biggest threat in your presidency" until Trump was informed about Covid. And Trump's response was to, as usual, treat covid with his self interests first, second, and last in mind.

Actually one of the most searing criticisms of Woodward has been that he practices access journalism. Meaning - if you give him access and cooperate with talking with him - he has typically made you into some type of heroic figure. Trump is a complete Narcissist and thought giving Woodward access he would be able to win him over to favorable interpretation. The reality is people mostly believe what they want to believe - so for people who believe Trump is a monster - they believe that - I guarantee you magas look for things like dinesh d'souza - and they lap that up like it's the breath of life. Today, with all the government & political corruption Watergate, comparatively, and tragically, seems quite trivial. One of the commenters on this interview pointed out that Joe Biden and Bob Woodward are the same age. Two men who take their craft seriously and we as citizens are the better for it. Our denocracy benefits and is buffeted forward by these two "old artists" who still have the ability to accees and use their insritutional knowledge. Biden and Woodward are thick skinned and do not waste their time on petty "reality" TV type attacks. Professionals who take pride in doing their job to the best of their abilities and taking the heat that comes with it.

THE one question you did not ask that I wish to know "of all the presidents you interviewed, which did you respected, admired and or liked as a person and why?"

Thank you for this reveal of Bob Woodward. It really makes you stop and think what it takes to be a top journalist. It is essential to have dedication to find facts. The facts can be accepted or not. Bob has the back bone to do what many don't think is important. Knowing the facts and researching it is Bob's mantra.

I always enjoy listening to Bob Woodward. Because of his writings I've followed politics since 'All the Presidents Men' was published.
