    A tip I got as a young teenager that improved my Ollie height was where I placed my foot on the tail. The guy who gave me this tip was able to Ollie onto full sized picnic tables no problem and I asked him how he does it and he said it’s all in your foot placement on your back foot. He explained that Ollie’s not only have to do with how well your technique and jump is, it’s in the foot placement to get more pop. He showed me a demonstration, by laying the board by itself then stepping hard on the tail, he showed me regular tail foot placement, where most people (including Vinnie) put their feet (which is having the ball of your foot and all the toes on the tail) and he stepped/popped the board and it flew up to a 40° - 70° angle. Then he explained to get higher pop you place the very edge of the tail between your big toe and other toes (so the ball of your foot and big toe is on the board and the other toes are hanging off the edge of the tail) and he showed me by stepping/popping the board with that foot placement and the board flew up to a straight 90° and flipped over landing on the grip tape. By that simple foot placement change he was able to show how much more pop you can get. With higher pop it means it’ll allow the board to pop up more vertically, allowing your front foot slide to catch the board better causing cleaner and higher Ollies (by cleaner I mean the board will look like it’s stuck to your feet the entire time rather than having the board come off your feet if you’re jumping higher than you can pop the board) Also, he said you can adjust the placement of your front foot, by bringing it closer to your back foot it’ll add to your Ollie height. I added this foot placement to so many tricks and it highly increased the height of all my tricks.

      I've been doing this for so long and getting high ass pops. But seeing literally everyone else popping with all their toes in the tail made me feel like I was doing something wrong so I've been trying to "fix" my ollies by keeping all my toes in the tail. I can't get them high anymore but I just assummed I just needed to get used to this new foot placement.
      I feel like I've been doing ollies wrong. Not only that but I ollied with my front foot wierd as well. Everyone else seems to have their front foot perpendicular to the board and have almost their whole foot on in, if not even some skaters have their toes hanging off the edge a little bit. I've always had my front foot in the middle of the board so half my foot was always hanging off, but lately I've been trying to "fix" both my front and back foot and idk if it's the right choice at this point

    @ForsakenPixel 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I would also like to add that if you strengthen your lower abs by hanging and raising your knees to your chest(a few reps x sets a day) it will help make use of the higher pop because you'll have an easier time tucking your knees. After that it's timing the slide and extending the front leg(ninja kick) at the peak of your ollie.

    Late post this, but I’ve been analysing slowmo Ollie videos online and of myself to try to get my Ollie higher. The aha moment for me was the realisation that the front foot slide is mostly a rotational force and is limited by the flight angle produced by the pop. The height the front of your board reaches at the pop is roughly the max height of your Ollie because the foot drag is rotating the back of the board up to that point and can’t go higher. I don’t think this means you need to stamp like King Kong to achieve this, it just means that the more flick and ping your tail pop has
    the more likely the board will stand up vertically to allow your front foot slide to level out at a much higher point. I have been working on making the transfer of energy to the pop more efficient (foot placement, ankle flick etc.) and this is improving my Ollie height. The other aspect to making the pop more efficient is making sure there is no weight on it at the time. I’m having a harder time with this aspect and working on it. The pop needs to be initiated a fraction of a second before leaving the board in the jump so that the pop is not being dampened.

    • @ASIRA89
      @ASIRA89 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      i just did my first ollie learn session in my yard. Out of like.. 30-50'ish tries, only 5 times I landed with 2 feed on the board. The "pop" seemes to have gotten a bit better but most of the time i just cant get my foot to slide up enough, the board just lands a few feet in front of me. (also used new skateshoes for the first time. The rubbery sole is so grippy to the board i dont really get it to slide. And it seems the shoes will be ruined after a few more hours. "they last 2 weeks - 1 month" yeah doesnt look like it.

      Well it's more so that he's using the force from his jump to pop the board as hard as he can so he can jump with the board which in reality isn't him jumping before the pop it's him jumping for the pop.

      They did a video on the topic just a few days ago "how to skateboard" or something similar. The short version is that you should skate whatever feels comfortable. If your feet size is small skating a smaller board is perfectly fine. As you grow you will brobably feel more comfortable with a bigger board though.

    My skateboard is so heavy and it’s annoying and I don’t know how to fix it

      No much you can do about that unless you get lighter trucks (assuming it’s actually the trucks that are heavy and bit the board). My current setup is really heavy as well. Just have to get use to it with time!

    My problem is that while I can ollie about mid thigh level standing still, when I try to ollie while moving I can't get more than 6-10 inches. Any ideas why this might be happening?
