The "foundation" story which interrupted the Capitol building construction, in the 20s, was due to a previous building on that location, which is only seen in a very few 1800s lithographs. That old foundation can be seen in some old archived photos.
How about the story of Rosellini and the freeway reroute through Olympia. I remember the decades of unfinished freeway around Olympia. You can still see the outlines of the original right of way, through Tenino, Rainier, Yelm, and Roy.
