@@konneranderson5116 the time off the clock is not a factor because if they're taking knees the rest of the game, they wouldn't have thrown that pass to Julio and got into FG range which in itself took a lot of time off the clock.

During halftime, I never would’ve thought you even *could* say such a thing.
Let's not forget, the Falcons could have burned even more clock after onside recoveries by manufacturing an intentional false start here and there. 5 yards at a place where it doesn't matter for the punt, 40 seconds goes away, and you don't give up a down. As long as there's more than 5 minutes left in the game, that loophole is very much available for exploitation- plus it gives the defense more time to rest.

Only issue with neeling and the fg deal at the start of the 4th: every time you neel you move the ball back another yard or two.. so pretty soon you are closing in on a 60 yarder.
I thought of the same thing.. but you can easily substitute 3 zero yard plays of plunges up the middle or QB sneaks.

According to your theory, it all comes down to the sack of Ryan taking them out of field goal range with 3:53 left in the 3rd, and your scenario where they make a 58 yard attempt after kneeling for 3 downs. I would agree that if they made the field goal or td (not been sacked) they would have been able to run out the clock the way you suggested.

When Julio Jones caught the pass toward the end all they had to do was run-run-run, field goal and it was over. If they didn’t get the first down on the 3 run plays.

There was no guarantee he was getting in and pete carrol was thinking either they complete the pass to score a TD or its incomplete to stop the clock and have another shot at the end zone. The thought of an unlikely interception never crossed his mind. If stopped on the run play which was very likely to happen it would have ran out the clock. The patriots won that game fair and square. What ifs are piss poor bullshit excuses because you can use those same what if excuses against the 2 times the giants beat the patriots because of incredibly rare and unlikely receptions made by their receivers in the final seconds of both games. The patriots should have won both of those games. So using your own logic you can take away the seahawks and Falcons superbowls but then to be fair and consistent with your logic you would have to give the 2 superbowl wins by the giants to the Patriots. Either way the universe always finds a way to balance itself out.

All I know from the last 20 years is that if you give the Pats a chance, they will get the fortuitous call that gives them a second chance, and they always score on the second chance. I did the math at the time and 4 touchdowns was a no brainer for Brady. I called the comeback and was rewarded by exactly the scenario I'd seen on 5 previous super bowl wins. I say go with the simulation. Take the knee. Why give the Pats that second chance that they will inevitably get? I really enjoyed this video. Thanks.
