What a wonderful happiness it is when you have such a facility and you feel the freedom of movement and roaming with friends and everyone you love side by side
I have a Segway wheelchair for over 6 years, without any doubt it’s the best chair made for the handicap, nothing else comes close. Mine is a Ally chair and built like a tank.
I just watched all your videos and I admire your courage and your joie de vivre. In 6 months, you have adapted to your new life. I experienced the same situation as you were several years ago and I had a lot of difficulties to resume a "normal" life. Continue to produce videos: they will enable people to see how a disabled person lives and the disabled to follow your example. Including more intimate videos as the disabled also have an intimate life not always easy to assume.
Thank you for watching our videos and for taking the time to make this kind comment. It's nice to know that people appreciate our videos and motives us to keep making more. Do you have any advice for newly disbaled people now after several years of this life?
segways are cool.....same problem when standing..keep locking my knees ...not comfortable...but FUN...just continue progressing and building strength.....keep the travel adventures alive :)
Hi. Thanks for sharing your experience with the Segway wheelchair. I bought one version of the idea - a Blumil - about 6 years ago. It's a much simpler version of the one you tried but it's great to use. Especially over grassy surfaces where the manual chair is just hopeless. If you're interested, I can give you more information and details.
It’s interesting! I’m a full time powerchair user and definitely not lazy. I live alone without help, drive and have 4 voluntary jobs. I have a far better quality of life compared with when I used a manual chair. I’m not burning up the same calories so exercise is important. I wish I had taken the decision to change to a powerchair much sooner. Many thanks for the film.
We can understand that. At first I was really keen to try and do everything myself and was reluctant to use any powerchair / attachment. Recently we've realised it's better to use help that will enable me to be more independent and get out more rather than trying to just self propel and then being put off doing stuff again because it's so challenging in a manual wheelchair so we've just got a power attachment for my chair and I'm already doing more exercise with it than I was before
I have applied for a grant for one, I am so fed up not having my hands free, not being able to keep up talking with people whilst walking, and in my job, having to negotiate rough ground, and cables on the floor. Fingers crossed I hope I get it, as I can not afford it.
Try a Nino Robotic chair. I have had mine for 3 years and it's brilliant. Talk to Chris or Ivan at All Access Mobility in St Helens. Half the price of the Ogo.
@@adaptivetravel Have a look on TH-cam for Nino_Robotics videos. I bought mine and have never had a problem. The 2 guys that run the company are exceptionally caring. That Segway chair looks like fun! Your channel name is perfect! Love the intro! Have you gone to the National Junior Disability Championships? Was curious when I saw you playing table tennis.
It way great to try, just a shame about the price tag! Thanks, Claire made that, she's pretty proud of it haha! No we're in the UK so we don't have that but Craig's competing in multiple sports in the Stoke Mandeville games this week which should be fun! Did you go to the national junior disability championships? Btw your exoskeleton looks cool, we're going to go watch all your videos about that, is it your own?
That's a shame! That seems to be the problem with most mobility equipment - it has to be expensive because there's a small market and there's a lot of customisation involved but then because it's expensive nobody can afford it so they don't get much business and because of low profit there's less incentive for new innovators
@@adaptivetravel Here in Australia you could have the gennie branded segway $33,000(which i have had for 3 years) or 2 korean cars??????? doesn't make sense
Yeah everything really is ridiculously expensive especially when you compare it to what else you can get for the same price like you said! I get that cars are way more in demand so they can make them cheaper but it doesn't make it any less annoying for us lot looking to buy mobility equipment. Looking to buy a handbike and even the very cheapest ones which are pretty awful are the price of a professional level normal bike!
😂 definitely would without the handles too! Low level paras are supposed to be able to use it handsfree so we can see the appeal for people who have that capability. Ouch that's expensive! Is that a normal price for a power chair?
Well we got one for my partner for £2000 as we couldn’t afford more (had to crowdfund for even that much as we are both severely disabled and unable to work) but it is so basic that it doesn’t even fit her needs even though she really doesn’t need a lot out of her chair in comparison to a lot of people (her needs are WAY less complex than mine for example). As soon as you start adding even things like a comfortable seat that’s going to give you proper support and a curb climber and wheels that won’t puncture practically every time you leave your house, then the price starts climbing rapidly!
Dear, how did you move it, by hands or by ballance? If ballance, up to ehich injuryeit might be an ability to drive with it? It costs nearly twice as much as my 12 year old Kia Picanto when l got it. My only one l bought new! Don't have a lot money and l think l won't get it from my health insurance (glad to have it, btw.,) cause l can't work any more. I'm 55, close to 56, and they only want to give me what's necessary. So l fought ast time for the M 25 by Alber. These are power assisted wheels which help me through my daily life. They're great but l come to my end of power to drve THIS wheelchair within a little time l'm afraid of! Please, can you give me a working hint? Thank you so much! Your videos are really so helpful! Be blessed and stay future - optimistic for you and your entire life! You can reach so much more than others - and sometimes you yourself - guess! Be blessed, l pray for you as long as l live! Yoprs, Conny L.
Hi Conny, the chair is moved by balance but I believe you can get a joystick for it too if you are finding it difficult. Because it is driven by balance, it is easier to drive with a lower injury. However, there are some handles you can hold on to help with driving. I have a T4 complete SCI which means I have full strength arms but no core (balance) muscles. I found it easy to drive with the handles. I think it would be easy to drive for anyone with T1 injury or lower. It is very expensive but the price is becoming a little lower when more people buy it. I wish I could buy one myself but it's too expensive for me too! Maybe you could apply for a charity grant if insurance won't pay? I'm glad you enjoy the videos! Thank you for your kind words :)
You don't appear overly enthusiastic about this chair...is it because of the price only or are there other niggles. What about clearing curbs, drops or uneven paving...do you need the off road tyre a lot?
In all honesty this was nearly 2 years ago and we've only tried it this one time so can't really make any judgements about it, it seemed cool but the price is definitely way out of our budget. We made this video mainly just to show it exists because we'd never heard of it before. However we do have a friend who has one of these and raves about it!
Thanks for getting back. They look super cool and the amount of gushing reviews out there is convincing to some extent. Coming in at 26000 here in Oz puts them out of my pay level. I'm happy with my Tilite zra, freewheel and off road tyres for now. Really enjoying your posts. Thanks again. Rob Manning Ferguson Valley WA
It's supposed to be handsfree so you can move around and use your hands for something else at the same time but it works better for people with more core control as its easier for them to balance. I could use one hand to carry things but needed to hold on with one for balance
Was borrowing a wheelchair from rehab while we were waiting for my own to be delivered so we took it back once mine arrived (we got it in the previous video)
When you showed the bit where you were playing wheelchair Rugby, I thought to myself "I've been in that sports hall myself!" Long time ago. I've not been to Stoke Mandeville for over 30 years! Bloody hell! Am I really that old?! LOL
Same. I went probably a little bit more than 30 years ago for some indoor sports thing with school. I'll be 46 on Sunday so that did make me feel my age lol
