      😆😆Dry Farmer Jen. That’s got a fun ring to it. And it’s most definitely true this year. If any of my plants survive this heat they are winners in my book. I do not know how you do this every year. It’s awful.

    Every year I think I get a new challenge with my summer garden. In the Carolinas we've had it hot and no rain for weeks so I'm for sure glad I got compost and garden straw and the shade cloth has been my savior! I fertilized fortunately before the heat wave and I'm making sure to have my plants not need so much water and it seems to thrive so i definitely think I've become a dry farmer too 😛 I totally have to agree with the love for dwarves. The varieties I'm growing for real are little trees especially Rumplestilksin,holy moly! it's 5 ft easily 😂 so far my plants are producing and quite minimal pest damage 🤞. Happy gardening to you and everyone 💚💚💚

      Oh for sure this year has been my driest and hottest ever in my gardening years. This is just insanity anymore. So if I wasn’t a dry farmer before I certainly am this year. We may get some rain tomorrow. I sure hope so. I’m ready to pull my hair out.

      The only problem I have is I need total control over the weather. Mother Nature won’t relent this year.

    yes you are dry farming. I do the same. I use cardboard and mulch heavily with straw.
    And yes the tomatoes are better in flavor.
    I have dry farmed ever since 1979 .

      This year for me here is crazy dry. My inground plants are still making it but I don’t know for how much longer. These temps are taking its toll on them. I’m praying for a break.

    Thank you. I was needing the green plastic fencing to keep chickens out of garden when they are out foraging. Or to move them to various places to forage but keep them contained just in the area I want them in. Wanting it more like a movable fence I got from premier but a cheaper way 😉. I did go ahead and get some green snow fence and garden stakes. Just put up yesterday and so far so good. They have their side and garden has the other side... for now.

      Oh well the green fencing would probably be great for that. I’m glad you’ve found something that worked out for you. 😊

    Can you do a video showing how you made your green web fence in materville!!?? Please please please - Love it! Everything looks amazing

    • @jencordial
      @jencordial  หลายเดือนก่อน

      The green fencing is just deer fencing attached to tposts. I’m actually going to be redoing my fencing around Materville as the plastic has broken down in just a couple years and the deer have been able to tear it apart unfortunately so metal wire fencing is in Materville’s future. If you’re looking for something short term and cheap it works but as for long term I wouldn’t recommend it.

    Great video Jen & your plants look incredible! Wanted to ask you, Ive used wood chips before & yes it works great, especially because I need to plant my tomatoes in containers/pots only. When I read somewhere that it is not good when the wood chips are mixed into the soil & I reuse my soil every year (mix it with really good bought mixes etc etc) I stopped. How do you go about that?

    • @jencordial
      @jencordial  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes that is true. Wood chips as they break down when mixed in soil steal the nitrogen. At the end of the season I just scrap off the wood chips or in beds just push them to the back to slowly break down. I never mix them in.

    How does the copper benefit the plants? My plants are so far behind yours. I just hope my plants get to the point yours are.

    • @jencordial
      @jencordial  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The copper spray in my experience keeps diseases from spreading. I still remove any foliage that shows signs of disease but after a couple weeks I can tell I don’t have very many issues like I’ve had in past years of not using it.
