Isaiah 49:1-13 Luke 1:26-38
Matthew 1:18-25
700 years before Jesus was born; Isaiah1 was a prophet in Judah
and Jersualem. Isaiah predicted so much about Jesus' life that his
book is frequently called the “Fifth Gospel” --- as in (1) Matthew,
(2) Mark, (3) Luke, (4) John, and (5) Isaiah! For our Advent our
preparation this year, we will use the “Fifth Gospel” of Isaiah to
prepare us to celebrate the birth of the Savior.
In Isaiah, there are four chapters that are referred to as the Servant
Songs2. These are 4 chapters that virtually outline the mission and
ministry of Jesus, they are quoted frequently in the New Testament,
and they teach us why the Son of God was born in Bethlehem.
Listen to Me, you islands; Hear this, you distant nations: Before I was born, Lord called Me; from My mother’s womb, He has spoken My Name.
