What Place did you get? Should have filmed race with go pro on helmet or bike mounted sure theres a way, even if people rip past you. Somebodys gotta be last, or first. Needed a pipe guard.
Been doing this event since I was born and racing it every year since I was 15, 100 percent just completing the race and being able to drive home right after is a win!
@@wranglerstar Long ride impresive you finished. If you didn't race it you wouldn't know your skill level probably learned a few things. Maybe different hand grips and thicker riding gloves would help with the blisters.
I'm an old desert racer from Utah who has been away from the racing side of the sport for a few decades, and the differences between now and then were brought out really well in this video. We used to go down to the races in a pickup truck, and literally sleep under the truck in the dirt the night before. I would have drooled back then to see the knee protection you had, as well as all the specialty clothing/body armor. Our high tech was drilling a hole in a canteen cap, and running an auto windshield washer hose from there up into the helmet so we could drink ala camelback style long before camelbacks came out. We raced in levi's, but had racing boots (Hi Points), helmets, and gloves. One thing looks like it hasn't changed though; it's still a lot of fun!!
I’m right there with ya brother I’m 66 years old and if my wife wouldn’t kill me I would go and break some dirt I road huskies all my life from.age 13 till a few years ago gave my grandson my bike. I was scaring roadrunners and coyotes here in Arizona forging ground where no man has ever gone. MAN I MISS IT
People don't understand how hard a 100 mile race is. I raced the gncc series back when it was called the "100 miler series", including the blackwater 100. 100 miles on an old husky without a water pack is quite an experience. Nowadays I ride a new KTM 300 with all the bells and whistles and I complain if it rains too much the day before riding, haha. Sincerely, a filthy east coaster.
Nice! I've raced the Desert 100 several times, and get goosebumps watching videos like this. It is not a fun race, but the stories and sense of accomplishment are worth it. The first 20 miles are crazy. It is physically demanding. It's mentally grueling, as you're in a weird mental state of intense concentration. If you'd have told me, I would have driven over to be your pit crew (not that you have any clue who I am). I typically spend the following week or so reliving the race, and thinking about all the mistakes I made and how much better I could have finished.
I saw you filming in the distance and didnt wanna bother but really glad you came good sir! I was anticipating what you were going to say if you would do it again glad to hear you would!
D100 Vet here. That place is relentless rocks and whoops. Duct tape that # next year. Lol. 100miles is a great distance for an old timer. Odessa is where the dirt and the rocks are the same color and makes for extremely challenging riding. I love the terrain over there and have many, many fond memories of that race weekend. I'll be there for Poker Run next year.
Good job I love how you said how rough it was and you would still do it again signs of a real man! I never raced endurance but I used to race at a place called muddy creek people just don’t understand how hard it is on you and your machine.
I tried an obsticle course race recently and failed miserably but firmly believe the challenge was worth it and being present and testing myself was a huge value add. I have work to do and it feels great to have started. Kudos to you for challenging yourself and risking your comfort and physical self. SC man tips his hat. Good form sir!
No front brake after the impact?!... You did it on Hard Mode! I love getting out on the moto, though. Hoping we have more good days for it here in W. WA, but did get out a bit a couple weeks ago, which was sweet; crossed 20k miles on the odometer (bought with 19k).
I've done a poker run out here in California and I know the absolute fun and misery you went through!!! Love this content! Takes cajones to finish a race like that, bet you were on cloud 9!!
I've been to Odessa 3 times with my best friend. We did the iron man dual sport run, its twenty-five miles on the trail and twenty-five on surrounding roads - navigating. The dual sporters are treated to a beer tent with bratwurst at the end of the route. What I remember about Odessa is the dust, sore legs, jagged rocks, and chaos with other riders on the trail. But we had a fun time camping over the weekend, it's an experience. As a note - Unfortunately, I live on the left coast of WA.
Very cool cody. I live jist south of red bud, here in southwest Michigan. I havent had a bike in a long time. Here lately you have been making me itch.
I saw you in Yakima on Saturday on near mod pizza & Five Guys on S First street you were walking to your truck. I was there since my Truck was at Discount tire getting new tires. I didn’t think it was you since I thought you were in Montana and no way it was really Wranglestar I thought to myself. Would have said hello if I had known! I can confirm he does not walk around with bare feet all time lol
Great video! Also did the d100 last weekend. Yes pretty brutal and i also laid the bike down a few times. Just a question, How do you like that Rekluse clutch?
In 1997 my pro circuit built & geared for speed KX250 had a top speed of 90. Scott Summers passed me on his XR 600 like I was standing still😂 it was held in Mattawa back then. Fun race 😎 great job on the finish Proho👍🏻
Nice! You placed 444th and had a time of 5:59. Great job! I was there racing too and I did the Iron Man the day before. I only did the 50 mi because of my class, plus I didn't want to do the hundred. I finished at 2 hours 56 minutes.
Cody how fun I’m 66 years old and haven’t been really riding like what you just did for over 20 years. If I thought my wife or my body would let me I would go in a heart beat ❤ from phoenix
Woah this was awesome. I loved seeing how beat up your bike and you were. Thats an insane race. I’d love to see footage of you riding though and going down, all the best and worst parts. Would be cool if you were a go pro next time. Really cool video nonetheless the less
Well done finishing. Hard rides are usually the most rewarding and memorable. I have had a handful myself. Your chain looked really loose after your race. I’m sure you will check that out when going through the bike 👊🏼
I’m raising a family, building a house, and working a full time job that keeps me busy 5-7 days a week, but when I get my feet under me and feel like I can afford it, I’m getting a dirt bike. I had one as a teenager and I loved it, but I’m 32 now and I could use some fun like that in my life.
I say this with kindness. Be careful with Advil. A close friend fractured bones in his feet during a marathon. He took some prior and never realized it because he didn’t feel any pain. He cautioned me. God bless you and yours
It's a tough area to ride because there are so many rocks hidden among the sage that can throw a front wheel off and down you go. I've heard stories about being passed by riderless bikes tumbling through the air.
Good Luck today! Be smooth, carry momentum intonand through the turns, brake as late as possible into turns smooth throttle control and keep head and torso centered to the handlebars. Elbows up!
The new forks look great on the husky Cody! What's the next race you will be in? You should come and do the finke desert race in Australia, it's 145mile 2 days in a row.
It’s nice to hear a 2 stroke being a refugee from people’s republic of California they were red stickering most two strokes and no one was riding them like they used to
I've done it the past 3 years. This is the fastest I've ever done it at 4.5 hours and I never fell down. Last few years I've ate it pretty good. Next year I might do the 50 just to mix it up.
I grew up close to there. I remember seeing a bunch of guys jumping the highway. They did not check for traffic. Eventually the organizers were required to change the course.
I'm in Cda, and there are alot of desert riders there where 1000 riders used to race it, and I'd get passed all the time,BUT... when they get to the technical spots.... you pass them by the hundreds! My first year I wrecked hard, second one I took 89th, and the third year was 18th!! But it rained that week and those desert guys are not used to it, the 4th was another wreck! 😂. That's a fun race! I also wore a kidney belt after the first race.... using the restroom didn't look right! Lol. I remember seeing some MAJOR CARNAGE after the hole shot! 😮

Hi Cody. Do a road trip video to events aswell. Im sure most of us like that kind of content as well. Going to and from events like these and thunder ranch
