  • People worship the huge 'Kala Bhairava' statue at Hanuman Dhoka in Durbar Square, Nepal.
Hanuman Dhoka is a complex of structures with the Royal Palace of the Malla kings and also of the Shah dynasty in the Durbar Square of central Kathmandu, Nepal. It is spread over five acres. The Hanuman Dhoka Palace (Hanuman Dhoka Darbar in Nepali) gets its name from the stone image of Hanuman, the Hindu monkey god, that sits near the main entryway. 'Dhoka' means door or gate in Nepali. All temple that are situated in a durbar square is the best example of Newari architecture.
The eastern wing with ten courtyards is the oldest part dated to the mid 16th century. It was expanded by King Pratap Malla in the 17th century with many temples. Sundari Chok and Mohan Chok in the north part of the palace are both closed. In 1768, in the southeast part of the palace, four lookout towers were added by Prithvi Narayan Shah. The royal family lived in this palace till 1886, where after they shifted to Narayanhiti Palace. The stone inscription outside is in fifteen languages and legend states that if all the 15 are read milk would spring from the middle of stone tablet.

Kala Bhairava in Sanskrit. Hindi/Urdu is half-Middle Eastern, hence has inaccurate pronunciation.

@@BadassBikerOwns might be true in India but 'kala' could be pronounced as "कला" which means art. Also, in Nepal we call it Kaal Bhairav as in "कालभैरव", not "कालाभैरव".

@@bekcha87 You say it as if your Nepali pronunciation is right and others are wrong. No one is wrong. First of all, you Nepalis need to decide whether you are Hindus or atheist Communists.

This peace is a national heritage, it should be preserved in a temple and not openly on public road where dogs are sitting and people are in shoes

First of all the Mount of Kaal Bhairav is a Dog so there will always be a dog at side , and it used to be a place of judgement earlier during Kings Period, it was so feirceful that people couldn't even lie in front of him and legend says if you like in front of him you have invited death.

There is nothing wrong to keep it here!
But peoples should know that painting the statue with modern chemical paint will eventually erode the stone resulting the disfigurement!
Thus they should use the organic paint as used in the past and it would be great if they build a roof over the idol!

It clearly shows you know nothing. Please read the manifestation of Lord KaalBhairav. He is Bhoothnath means lord of all living and non living beings
