Just got the "Elite". Up til now i've just used the Hornady "Calculator" on their website. I've gotten good at "making quick adjustments" cause i'm not typically hitting on the first shot using that calculator. Does Kestrel have a series of videos or at least one, in depth video, that covers setup through taking the kestrel to the range and using it? I don't like that i'm having to watch videos in piece mil style from different content creators. Please tell me you have a good video for Kestrel beginners.... and YES, i mean something in more detail and slower than this video here.
We do offer free beginner and advanced classes on zoom. If you can't make the time/date you can still sign up and we will email powerpoint and video to you kestrelballistics.com/classes
Hi George Applied Ballistics periodically adds different bullets to the bullet database. From time to time, you will see a pop-up in the Kestrel LiNK Ballistics app about which new bullet profiles were added. -The Kestrel Team
Hello Kestrel team, Just got a 5700 Elite version 1.48.....I found the gun name string length to be very short, is there any chance of Kestrel increase the number of characters when naming a gun in the next firmware upgrade? The reason why is because some guns are used with various bullet sizes and weights, so a bit more descriptive gun name would be extremely helpful. Thank you
We can only fit a certain amount of characters but with the 1.48 update, you can go into your custom curve and view all the details of the bullet you are using. Hopefully this helps as then you can focus naming the profile on gun config being used.
Hi and thanks again. Question: When you send the profiles to the Kestrel do you stop using the phone any more out in the field? My problem is I have a 5700X and when I put say 7 targets in my phone and upload them to my kestrel, I can scroll through the first 3 (A,B,C) and though there are more, they cannot be scrolled further on the main screen. I can see all targets on the targets screen but not in the main windage elevation screen of the Kestrel. So, I have to go back to the phone. Can you try this and comment on it, please? Thank you so much for all your excellent videos!
Sorry for the delayed response your comment got buried. There are two ways to view targets on the Kestrel. The first is on the main Home screen where you see Elevation and Windage for a single target. The other (and more flexible way) is on Target Card. On the Home screen you can set individual targets to Active or Inactive in the Target submenu. (Scroll up to the Target line and press center). If more than one target is set to active, when you scroll left and right on the Home screen, you'll scroll through the active targets. My guess is that you only have the first three targets set to active. If only one target is set to active, scrolling left or right on the Home screen will change the range for that target. I would recommend most people do this and only use the Home screen to deal with the one active target. If you want to look at multiple targets, I would use the Target Card screen. All targets whether set to active or not will show up in the Target Card screen. To change ranges for the individual targets, press the center button while on Target Card and go into the Target inputs sub menu. From there you can quickly adjust range, DoF, etc for all 10 targets. With a BT LRF, you can just highlight the target you want and fire the laser and the correct target info will populate to the highlighted target. To input wind info for the 10 targets, scroll down to Wind Inputs and input or capture what you want. Then when you exit out of the Target Card sub menu, all 10 targets are updated and ready to be viewed on the Target Card. You can build target cards in the app as well but building and transferring from there isn't the fastest or easiest way to do it.
Hi Austin - I have this device but the 2nd Gun Profile failed to transfer to my iPhone. Both profiles are for the same rifle but with different bullets so the names are identical until you get to the 16th character in the profile name. Could this be the problem? Also, when I downloaded the major system (firmware?) update nothing changed on the Kestrel. I don't see the same screens or the Display phrases "Easy Mode" or "Target Setup". All I see in Mode "Ballistics" or "Weather" and all I see related to Target acquisition is a highlighted "Tgt...". It seems like the firmware didn't update. Is there some way to get it to? thanks!
Hi Gary- Firstly apologies for the late reply our entire team was at Shot Show. Yes the issue is going to be extended length of the name. The Kestrel only holds 10 characters so he will need to update the names to differentiate them before the 10th character in order for them both to appear. For the update, we had to pull down the 1.17 update to fix some issues. We should have a new update available shortly. Until then, the update will not work but the user may still get prompted. This should get resolved within the next week or so.
Good day Austin I purchased my Kestrel Elite some 2 years ago and my Kestrel does not have the “easy “mode on the device - how do I update the firmware on my Kestrel ? Best Regards Francois”
Hi Francois All Kestrels will get Easy Mode with the next firmware update (along with other new features). This update will go out shortly and you will be prompted for it when you connect to Kestrel LiNK Ballistics (when available). Regards Kestrel Team
I have the Kestrel 5700 Elite w Link ...My question is : For scopes that have MOA windage & elevation Turrets & Mildot reticle ..Is there a conversion in the Kestrel to enter each & get the correct adjustment to target ..Or is it either MOA or MILDOT & I need to convert for turret adjustments..Also which if only one would you recommend that I enter in the Kestrel ..Currently I have mil entered in the gun profiles..
Hi J There is no conversion from MOA to Mils. So basically you have a few choices and really it's your preference on which method you want to use: 1) Set Eunit to MOA, Wunit to MIL. You would dial turrets for elevation and then hold in the scope the correction for wind. 2) Set Eunit to MIL, Wunit to MOA. You would dial the turrets for windage and then hold in the scope for elevation. 3) Set Eunit to MOA and Wunit to MOA. You would dial the turrets for both elevation and windage and not use the reticle holds. Because elevation is constant and wind is not, the most logical choice would be option 1 in our opinion. Hope that answers your question and thanks for using a Kestrel!
Kestrel Weather Meters TV ..Thank you it should help myself and others that have similar issues...Future scope purchases will be in one or the other ..
with you Kestrel set both to MOA/MOA. As long as you are using the turrets to dial to corrections you are fine. If you want to use your reticle using the Kestrel info then set it to MIL/MIL. You can toggle back and forth as long as time is not critical .
FIRST STEP, MAKE SURE UR MODE IS "EASY" otherwise none of this comes up on the screen in this order. i spent 15 minutes going back and forth on this video trying to find the steps on my kestrel.
Wish you would do a step by step from start up to firing solution without the cell phone. I purchased my 5700 elite as a stand alone, and so for can find no assistance, the little ball of paper that came withit as a instruction is next to worthless, with the price points you would think the product would be 1 simple and straight forward to use, no 2 come with clear concise instructions,no ot 3 a link to good expert information that provides for the needs or the customer. So far am very disappointed in Applied Ballistic Kestrel 5700Elite!
Hi! I received my 5700X and there doesn't seem to be an "Easy" mode just "Weather" and "Ballistics". Has it been removed?
5700X does not have Easy Mode on it, intentionally.

No Easy Mode in 5700X Any videos on that?
The 5700X was designed for the military so there is no easy mode on it.

Hi, I managed somehow to hide an easy mode and Bluetooth option and now I don’t know how to get it back in the menu? Can you kindly assist?
please email us at techsupport@nkhome.com.
Damn dude! Slow down a little! Why didn’t you mention having to go to EASY mode to make the second half of this video possible?? Minor fucking detail…
