My daughter told me about your videos. (Obviously dropping a hint…right?) I absolutely love your style and will do my best to listen, learn, and follow. Thank you, Julie, for helping this old dog learn some new tricks.
I was wondering how to get you to talk about overbearing, dark, ugly “ river rock” stone fireplace facades, feeling hopeless about mine. And here you are combining wabi sabi principles and practical tips. My favourites. Truly brilliant advice, with perfect timing. I’m so impressed with every video you make. Thank you Julie and team!!
Julie, it's 6 a.m here in Poland and I must confess, I just LOVE to watch your videos with my morning coffee! You make a short statements about stuff, no fringes added, pro and competent. Thank you for sharing all your knowledge ❤
I love this idea. The only other thing that would be nice to see is a more completed room before you go to the next. If we're here, we're probably clueless. Maybe less per video if it's a lot of work? These are very relatable, like you said. Thanks again. I'll definitely keep watching!
Oh my! I sooooo love watching your videos! This video was so informative and entertaining. Thank you again, Julie, for giving me (and all of us who subscribe to this channel) food for thought.
I hate the suggestion of painting those espresso wood cabinets. If you ask me, they are the best part of the Kirchen and give it vintage vibes. The dark green that was suggested looks ugly if you ask me. The main problem of this kitchen is all of the clutter and the lack of window treatments. Remove the ugly bright red rugs. Also the table doesn't fit with the cabinets. I like the suggestion of adding shiny hardware to the kitchen though.
Those pork chop builder grade bathroom shelves! Ugh! ....And the big stone fireplace! Double ugh! Until recently, I had that fireplace ..in a corner! It had a full step-up, CARPETED hearth, and was completed with a shiny brass fireplace insert. I wish I had your advice then. Those different beige-tones stones, with huge spaces in between, always reminded me of the Flintstones for some reason!
Thank you Julie for all your wonderful update ideas. I have one of those old shower and painting the frame is a great idea, plus I’m thinking of painting the tiles white. What do you think about painting bathroom tiles?
Julie did a diy renovation of her bathroom in the house she lives in now. She painted both the shower tiles and the floor tiles. So I think she would recommend painting them. That video is more than a year old. But you will find it on her channel here. She still loves her reno of that bathroom and it does look fantastic.
Check out my guest bathroom renovation to see how I painted my shower tiles Janice! Lots of tips to make it last longer- you need to get the prep work right 👍🏻
The second person could also restain the wood on the mantle depending on other wood tones incorporated in their japandi style. Or even go for the full shou sugi ban blackened wood technique directly from Japan. I would then make sure to repeat the darker stained wood or blackened wood/black somewhere else in the room.
How do you go about slightly lightening the big stones on the fireplace? What kind of products would you use? Ours has a mix of beige, rust and a medium charcoal colored stones.
Interior paint for masonry Renee. They can color match it just like paint. Try an off-white or warm light gray to start. Layer coats as needed with a nylon brush. You can always add more, but it’s difficult to remove so tread lightly at first
More than anything the spaces in the pictures from the viewers suffer from having way too much stuff on the counters and just overall clutter. Doesn't mater what kind of furniture and or stylings they go for if the spaces are not clutter free. I specially liked the "L" shape rod with the sheer curtain for the corner space. Those curtains will just get rid off all that visual noisy.
Happy Holidays Julie! Love this video and I have a question for you. I have Cherry engineered hardwood flooring through my house. Is it possible and a posh look for me to put a high gloss hardwood (same color) just into my entrance Foyer ONLY for a more glamorous, rich look?
Julie what did you do with everything in your garage when you changed it to your office space? From your photos your garage looks exactly like mine the …. before pictures of course. Thanks.
I donated almost 75% of the “stuff” and kept the rest in the back of the garage on storage racks Debbie! Larger furniture pieces went to my parent’s storage warehouse, so grateful I have this option for my beloved antiques. Going to share how I maximized this space in part 2! Stay tuned 🙏🏻😊
@@JulieKhuu Julie thank you very much for getting back to me my garage looks exactly like yours and there is a couple of really good pieces of furniture that I don’t wish to part with. And again going from almost 4000 ft.² to 1500 ft.² has not been easy. But I love your garage makeover. Thank you again for getting back to me. Merry Christmas♥️
Hey Julie! You struck home with the brass shower door frame. I'm currently not in a place to re do our whole bathroom from its dates 80s look. I'm excited to hear that I could paint that frame. The tub and sink are mauve. What color would you suggest painting the door frame. We currently have dark wood floors and white cabinets. I swapped out a light fixtures and towel rods to mat black and liked it. I'm open to swapping those again if you suggested something different.
hi Julie 2 quick questions and thanks in advance. 1. we have a wall mounted 85" tv with a cabinet of same length underneath on the floor and we have just bought 2 same style floor vases to keep on both the sides of the tv cabinet. will it look good? 2. what indoor plants can be used in these vases? thanks lalita
Julie...I have a question and hope you can answer me asap. I know you do fung ? ( can't spell it) you said do not do a headboard with a split down the middle between the couple. I have found a bed I love but is split. I is all wood. Can I pad the headboard and fill in the sides to smooth and even it out and upholster it. Would this provide good fung ? ?
I custom designed it and had it fabricated from my drawing with my trade vendor. Used poly silk velvet blend fabric with nickel nailheads. I always thought I would market this piece for a capsule furniture collection and sell it in the future Janice! Would you be interested? 😊
So fun to watch your videos! We just bought a FL condo and it’s been a major reno project. There are two sets of sliders that I need to shade from the hot sun yet keep it light and breezy for when it’s shaded. Im thinking of using sunblocking drapes that would pull flat across the windows like a blind, rather than using 3x the window width. These would mostly be closed when we’re not in there. I’m think this approach would minimize the bulk at each end and keep the view, too. They would be UNDERNEATH white sheers that would be 3x the width of the window. What do you think?!
@@JulieKhuu yes that’s the way I’ve traditionally done it too. Just thought I’d try to make the sun blocking curtains act and look like blinds. I was hoping you d say you’ve seen it done like this haha We’ll see 😊

Totally Stone Age 🤣 But definitely has potential with the right treatment Jeanne-Marie! I like it lightly whitewashed myself

You can also simply gloss over the engineered wood at the entry if that’s your design intent
@@JulieKhuu what kind of gloss would I purchase? Is the gloss semi permanent? I actually would DIY the gloss myself. Thank you Julie

The vases can stand alone, but I am partial to black olives and ficus trees

Yes, as long as that split is covered with a singular panel- it’s all good 👍🏻

Painting stone? Noooooo! Heartbreaking! Would you paint over marble? If she hated the fireplace so much, why not just clad it?
Because a whitewash DIY is very easy to do. Not for everyone, so you decide ☺️
Japandi is really getting popular !
That’s what I was thinking too when the emails came rolling in!
