    I just couldn’t leave well enough alone with the Blend If options in Photoshop. After playing with the Blend If options I came up with a way to make organic Noise Reduction and Sharpening adjustments.
    What I mean by this is that if you make a Noise Reduction layer that protects the highlights and shadows with the Blend if options then anything you put under (lighter or darker) will change the outcome of the Noise reduction layer above it. The same will happen with sharpening.
    When you sharpen a photograph it is best to not sharpen globally as global sharpening will also sharpen the Shadows and that is typically where all of the noise resides. Likewise, if you reduce the noise in an image it is best to do it on just the shadows as much of what is considered noise in the shadows is actually detail in the midtones.
    Using the Blend If options you can create a Noise Reduction layer or a sharpening layer and then tell Photoshop what you want it to protect using the Blend if options. If anything changes under those layers, the Blend If options will kick in and organically change based on the Blend If constraints.
    I don’t know if you are as excited about this as I am or if this all sounded like psychobabble to you. No problem either way, the video tutorial will cover it in great detail. I have also created a series of Actions for you that do all of the heavy lifting! Enjoy the tutorial and get your hands dirty with the blend if options, they are incredible!

    Thanks. That's really nice. A lot of my noise reduction focuses on skies, and it's great to have such a focused tool to just affect the areas where there is visible noise.

    Hi, It's one of the best techniques I've ever seen.
    One question: In these actions "reduce noise and sharpening" , is it necessary to make adjustments in the "layer style / underline layer?

    how do you use noise reduction and sharpening together? I assume you noise blend if and then sharpen blend if both at the end of your workflow. I am new to Photoshop and I am having problems doing my noise reduction/sharpening. Your tutorial is awesome and seems to be the piece I am missing!!! just need to know how to use your 2 techniques together so I can have that eureka moment. Thanks again for the great info!!!!!!

      @f64Academy  5 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @f64Academy

      I usually allow noise in the mids as they feather into the highlights.

    Hi there? very interesting video, I was just thinking what if we work with Luminosity masks? Doesn't it select also the different "Lights or darks?"..... hmmm, just thinking out loud :) Hi pass is another thing :)

    • @f64Academy
      @f64Academy  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, they are very different! However, you could use a Luminosity Mask with Blend If. The thing about Blend If is that it changes based on what is underneath it where a Luminosity Mask is a carbon copy or snapshot of the luminance that you took at the time. I did a whole video about this here: th-cam.com/video/5HTIoPfg1iA/w-d-xo.html

      +Brandon Hale you very well could as they target different areas of the image with little to no overlap.
