Self-fulfilling Prophecy When a person is labeled as something by being told again and again and again, by others or their own self, the label will get instilled and the person will grow into that exact label. Even if s/he is not even that to begin with. This is important for educators when we want to produce positively-trait students.
I want to say thank you. My wife had a panic attack recently and she has been watching your videos to help her with her anxiety. I really appreciate that your videos helped her understand she wasn't having a heart attack. She identified with them so much. Thank you for everything you do
I was taking a walk today near my residence and I noticed there were a couple of pigeons on the street and a bunch of litter, including two bags of bread pieces and some other empty bags and containers in the middle of the street. Even though it wasn't a busy street with a lot of cars, I was still concerned about the pigeons being on the street, seemingly lured by the litter. So I went and picked up the litter and threw them into nearby trash can and then also moved the two bags that had bread in it onto the sidewalk. 3 positive character traits: 1) I'm considerate and helpful; 2) I have initiative, don't need someone to tell me what needs to be done, 3) I'm intelligent, quickly found a solution to a problem and fixed it. I wouldn't have thought twice about it (yes, I ought to give myself more credit), but this exercise 2:45 enabled me to see what I'd normally take for granted.
I really need to figure out who I am. I tend to just adopt the personality of any given person that I like at the moment, I start to put a ton of effort into making the choices that I think they would make. Even down to the music I listen to and how I carry myself.
This is also the reason why good role models are so vital to a healthy society, being able to see someone's example and emulate the traits you want to embody is the fastest way to develop new traits. And because you're learning by watching and then doing yourself, it will naturally have your own personal flair on whatever trait you are picking up. Making it a truly unique aspect of who you are. The problem is that we don't really have good role models on the public scenes, and society has structured itself to rip apart parents and children through various things.
My boyfriend introduced me to you a few months ago and let me tell you THANK YOU! Everything you talk about has really helped me make sense of what is going on in my head, I even recommended my therapist watch you so she could recommend your channel to her other clients! :)
Georgia, what a diamond in the rough of the internet! I enjoyed your WandaVision and Falcon/ Winter Soldier videos, but I have been avoiding watching your videos because I knew they would hit differently, deeply. And I am ready to listen to you to help myself. Thank you, yes, thank you!
Having been through CBT over the last year, and still on the meds this is the sort of thing that helped me the most, everyone should try it even if they don’t believe themselves to have issues as a preventative measure.
I feel really dumb asking this.... But i missed something. 1. Daily write down something you are proud of you did. 2. Find a list of characters traits. 3. Pick 3 traits. Is this daily? Or 3 you want to enforce. 3 you want to be? 3 you identify with? 4. Keep a tally. Is this if step 1 aligns with step 3. Or step 1 is stand alone. Are you tallying actions related to the traits. Tallying examples or actions through out the day. This excersises does sound hard. I have been trying to work on establishing a better identity. An other help or suggestions would be appreciated.
Start with just one thing you are proud of a day. Then do that for a few weeks. then what traits you think you have. I use a good traits list from good. start there and see it
Honestly, this video is something I should probably keep tabs on because my identity, especially in a professional environment, is something that I've struggled with off and on since the start of this year. It's not easy for me to deal with criticism, especially if it's said repeatedly and I continue to get angry over it. I also feel as if this plays into my mental health issues sometimes because whenever I think about a situation for too long, it starts to affect me in more ways than one. Thank you for this video, Georgia
I love this video, but I also hate it. Because I don't deserve to be good to myself, but I also know that I should be. I've started doing these lists, but I always end up stopping after a day or two, because it's too hard to continue.
There are truly people that have a hard time forming healthy relationships because they take on the identity of the people they are around or know. You become them literally and they operate like your actions should be the same as theirs. Anything you do as an individual is imitated and mocked OR CHALLENGED. It's proof that identifying with yourself is a sign of mental health. You are no one but YOURSELF, 24/7.
Am 18 and am 5.3 and Am very flexible and passion about comics and cartoon shows and characters and some people think that I'm crazy but I take it more as a compliment because I'm very Fierce and stubborn and kind to others and I love hanging out with my friends and family but I sometimes stutter when I'm nervous and I have a temper sometimes but I know how to control it and I love martial arts and I sometimes have a hard time saying what's on my mind and expressing myself fully to my friends and sometimes my family so yeah..😀😁😀😀
I feel like everything is fine with me including my defects (non physical), but my physicality is a huge block on the way to feel secure about myself. It impacts me hugely as I feel disrespected because of how I look, always finding myself in situations where ppl disrespect me. as well as I always end up betrayed for someone prettier /physically above my level, even by men who are less good -looking than me. It happens every time, whoever I want ends up wanting someone else with better physicality. As I feel like this is just the hand that was dealt to me by life, I realize I might be stocked in a self-fulfilling prophecy due to feeling this way and can’t feel different about it even tho I have tried to internalize a different core belief. How do I overcome this? I imagine this is connected to the fact that I was bullied for my body since very early childhood till even till adult years by a sibling. How do I deactivate this feeling of being less-than cause of my physicality?
This makes me feel tens so I should do what your saying.🤔 I think I actually feel really bad about my self. Even though I'm not in my opinion close to bring a bad prison. I'm not really sure who I am exactly.🤷 I'm jenraly kind to others I see that as something good about myself. When I ask people to describe me they have difficulty.
I often don't ask for food or eat cause i feel worthy enough to eat. Feels like I'm just wasting it if i eat, and someone else should have it instead of me.
This is great advice for those of us who believe that we have little to no worth. These thoughts aren’t true but we can definitely stave off a hamster!
I look for ways to help people. I'm Canadian, and you'd be hard pressed to find someone around here who thinks of a card carrying aboriginal as the "good guy". Since the first grade , guys were trying to beat on me simply because I'm native. Being respectful, I'd wait for the teachers to intervene. One day, five boys were punching and kicking me. Two teachers came around the corner, saw what was happening...and turned and walked away. The boys saw this as 'approval". I saw this as a statement that I wasn't viewed as a person and that I didn't matter. That I had no worth. I knew I had worth. So I knocked the five boys on their backs. I know who I am. Someday, others may see it.
Until you are at the point where you can't find one thing to be proud of. I started to eliminate the ability to be proud of myself in my childhood and that was 22 years ago. lol
could you do a video on what to do if your unattractive and how and why the opposite sex will all of a sudden be attracted to you. despite them telling you in more ways than one that your not good enough for them. for several decades. Having to work 4 times as hard to get half as far because you dont have the looks, talents, and gifts that others do ! that would make a good video
I personally think it may be because that's the type of love they're familiar witth (e.g., having unemotionally available parents) and/or they want to be your savior/ think they can "fix" you,
Assuming this is sarcasm? As many of the CBT techniques are cognitive restructuring of our methods of self-expression and how we express. Incase anyone who isn't a CBT therapist may not know this. Though if you are not being sarcastic please explain as perhaps you mean something else and I wouldn't want you being misinterpreted.
I groaned when you said one trait the first time. Imagine how many more times I rolled my eyes and groaned as you went on. Unrelated comment...any one have some paper and a pen I can borrow? Looks like I have homework...

I'm in the same boat as your wife and Dr. Georgia's video are really helping.

Please be good to yourself because being mean serves no benefit and does so much harm.

I certainly need to invest in this area because it is hard as heck
I’m the antihero type, imperfectly perfect

There is nothing i am doing now that i am proud of.

How do I know what's true? How do I know who to trust?
I feel like a villain everyone wanted me to be the best person ever and I failed I let them down I feel like I destroyed everything I touched
Huuuugs

Yes it can 😊

get that hamster to be kind to you
It's been out for awhile but maybe a video for "Into the Badlands"?
Video: "Are you the hero? The victim? The caretaker? The martyr?"
Me: "The nuisance."
me too
Ma’am i don’t know how long your fellow therapist will let you continue TH-cam like this haha
I have seen her somewhere? Is she an actress?
Playng DOOM shure helps with the HERO feeling.
My BPD ass seeing something about "self-identity" in the title: I could use one of those! * click *

I would say search for the little things =) there is something if you look deeply enough
Until you are at the point where you can't find one thing to be proud of. I started to eliminate the ability to be proud of myself in my childhood and that was 22 years ago. lol
None attachment to a persona is the way
Am I the only one who Thinks Dow needs to make a video on Sterling Archer lol;
Georgia: Don't fear the hamster, there's no need to.
Minsc: Go for the eyes, Boo!
Hah
This was very accurate and painful to watch
It seems impossible

Or the worst case scenario, they're abusers trying to find vulnerable people they can prey on

Real identity is received, not earned.
Today I'm proud I tortured a cold calling salesman. Wait, this isn't what you meant, was it? :)
One thing you are proud of what?
Self-expression is not a valid form of cognitive therapy.
