  • 'We've imported people into western countries who hate who we are, and our way of life. They don't want to live by our rule of law or respect the things we care about. It is about time we draw a line in the sand.'
    Matt Goodwin says: 'We can not be tolerant of people who do not respect and play by the rules of our civilisation.'

    Albert Camus in his book " The Rebel". Many young people feel
    the need to make a change to make life better. However, like all rebels
    she must live with the consequences of her foolish choice. It's the
    same as committing a murder. Make that decision and you must live

    I have a lot of time for Ella Whelan, and she is right that we need to deal with the Islamism that we have in this country. Where she is wrong is in thinking that removing citizenship from Islamists who break the law in pursuit of their political objectives - whether here or abroad - is *not* part of a solution. It should absolutely be part of a solution to our Islamism problem, and I sincerely hope that Begum isn't the last. Islamists should be under no illusion that we will continue to tolerate their intolerance of our way of life. People are sick of their intimidation and their violence. Arrest > imprison > time served > citizenship revoked > deportation.

    • @carltaylor6452
      @carltaylor6452 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      I respect also Ella's defence of freedom of speech and the other British values that she outlined, but I have two problems with her conclusions: 1) freedom of expression has limits when it comes to the law, and while we are in danger of implementing some very censorious laws that, like her, I disapprove of, I think it is right that speech should be restricted when it comes to incitement to violence and advocating for support for terrorism. I can foresee circumstances where Islamists might want to argue for all sorts of things, like Sharia Law or opposition to the State of Israel or against women's or gay rights, and I have and am willing to argue with them and defend their right express those points of view, but only up until they start to intimidate and threaten violence or openly support terrorism. 2) This discussion, as Matt says, is taking place in a context where Western democracies are under real threat from Islamism both within and without, and we should absolutely no longer tolerate their intimidation and violence. Western governments have a duty of care to their citizens - violent foreign Islamism should not be imported; homegrown violent Islamism should not be tolerated or appeased.
