What a comeback by Russia in 3rd set.. They were down by as much as 5 points at 11-16.. Goncharova was amazing during that time.. Congratulations again by winning the ticket to 2020 Tokyo Olympics
And this comeback gives an inspiration to Korea team for the three comeback game wins in a row(Dominica, Japan, Turkey) at the Olympic game.
Irina Fetisova had led team Russia in 3rd set.
The player who take Russia to Tokyo was her.

Just fyi Team Korea's two setters had injuries and had to return to Korea, they had veteran setters sub in for the team for these qualifying matches

@@naalee That was a full functioning thai team against an inadequate korean team. Let's see if the korean superstars would play and then were good to compare. Remember they were semi finalist during 2012 olympics and thai hasn't set foot on the olympic stage so let us all see. It would be a great matchup though.

I do not share that opinion of you Korea does not play anything just KYK the rest do not play anything that was demonstrated in the last World Cup where they shared group while Korea lost easy 3 to 0 with Russia and 3 to 1 with USA, while Thailand led to 5 sets and I almost won those matches in my opinion Thailand will win Korea easily

They lost the rythm in set 4 and go back leading in set 5 but unfortunately block by block and mistake by mistake they did make them lost to russia 2-3. Despite that they still did well . well good for Russia but Korea gave a good fight as its homecourt for Russia... The Asian qualifying would be very interesting to watch as Korea has lost to Thailand before. European could still be between Poland and Netherlands and i wish Poland can qualify... as for the possible overnet, the ball is going Russia's side anyway so the middleblocker has that option to hit it :)

I'm missing the formidable Russian (w) National team era 1988-2004. Russia haven't won a medal since 2008.. These ladies nowadays would pale in comparison during Artamanova, batukhtina, Belikova, Godina, Titchenko, Vassilevskaia, Sokolova, gamova's heydays. With this performance I won't be surprise if they won't be able to make it in the quarterfinals Tokyo olympics.
Russia won the gold medal in 2006 and 2010, 2010 was the best year for Russia, won all the marches of the world championship with Gamova, Sokolova, Goncharova, Kosheleva and Startseva, the best team.
well, they entered the quarterfinals in tokyo olympics but unfortunately had to face the powerful brazil team. if they were just able to win their match against turkey, they would have been in the finals.
Fetisova was the hero in the 3rd set. Korea could not penetrate her blocks.

Whether the Russian middle handled the ball in Korea's side or not (which is why the referee's call was questioned) cannot be challenged. The Korea coach had to challenge to make a statement to the referee for making a bad call at a crucial moment and plus to the players have a mini-break.

Overnet misjudgment by the Greek referee was very important when he was losing by one point in the fifth set of 12:11. This must be strongly appealed.
