    I find it is common for people to incorrectly calculate standard deviation. I see a lot of videos that do not point out the difference between overall standard deviation and the estimated short term standard deviation (used for control charts) why the distinction is important. Because of this I think too many people are getting the impression that you just take the overall standard deviation of all the data points and use that to find control limits.

    In case of control charts C and Control chart P ,Control limits change with the number of items in the subgroup (subgroup size)
    ❖ Larger Subgroup - narrow control limits. Why ?
    ❖ Smaller Subgroup - wider control limits. Why ?
    Can you please explain . Thanks

    • @learnandapply
      @learnandapply  ปีที่แล้ว

      In case of Attribute Control Charts, the control limits are calculated based on their mean (u bar or p bar) and subgroup size. Please consider it as a combination of both.

      The First 4 rules are enough, but you can use anyone from the last 4 in addition to these first 4, depending on the process and reason for which you are going to use it.

    Sorry not sure if I have asked this question on any of your other videos , But since Nelson's rules (especially 4 and beyond ) are based on Standard Deviation they are not applicable to Control Charts like C , NP , P etc which do not use UCL and LCL based on standard deviation values . would that be a correct statement ?
    By the way a very well explained video - thanks

    • @learnandapply
      @learnandapply  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for the valuable comments and appreciation!
      Yes, the statement is correct. For Variable control charts, to calculate the control limits we are using Mean and Standard Deviation (or Range).
      Steps 5 to 8 are used when an early warning is desired in the case of a variable control chart and that can be tested with the help of nos. of standard deviation.
      For the attribute control chart, the calculation of the control limits was based on Mean (Averages).

    Sir ,
    Please correct me if my understanding is wrong.
    Control chart generate UCL & and LCL based on data or sub group data which gives process variation from this we eliminate the error in process with repect to charactertics
    Cp and cpk are based on USL & LSL
    Which gives process variation with respect 2 target line
    Both method will provide normal distribution curve, am i right.
    Thank in advance.

    • @learnandapply
      @learnandapply  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for your valuable comments. The 1st part of your explanation is correct. But, the last sentence about normal distribution is not correct.
      You can calculate process capability for Non-normal process also.
