    Very clearly explained - for some reason I had a block on understanding CP and CPK. This explained it all very well and more.

    Can you please explain me why do you calculate the Cpl and Cpu from the "Target for the process" (5:30) instead of the mean?
    Also can you please explain what Short-Term Standard Deviation is?

    • @learnandapply
      @learnandapply  ปีที่แล้ว

      These are the formulae for Cpl and Cpu.
      Short-term standard deviation is considering only common cause variation in the process, calculated by using formula Rbar/d2.

    How do you do a Process Capability Study for one sided specifications limits (example: measurement of flatness tolerance on a part)?

    • @learnandapply
      @learnandapply  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The procedure is the same. Just to mention only one side specification limits in the options during performing it.

    Sir please tell which are the common test used on process cabality and hypothesis....

    • @learnandapply
      @learnandapply  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Normal Capability Analysis and Normal Capability Sixpack are commonly used in Capability Analysis.
      Whereas, in Hypothesis test t test are commonly used.
      But, please remember, depending on scenario, you have to use correct type of analysis or test..

    Hi I have a question. Let's say that management wants to bring down % defective from 5% to 2% to improve the process and increase customer satisfaction. Can we calculate cpk in this case on the np chart, considering that management would set a maximum tolerance limit?

    • @learnandapply
      @learnandapply  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, you can. But the monitoring of it won't be effective.
      For Process Performance and Process Capability, you need all indices along with a graphical representation.
      You can either have a system to calculate Process Performance regularly or start using a P chart to monitor proportion defectives.

    • @luigi88953
      @luigi88953 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@learnandapply thank you. If we plot a p chart and include a maximum spec of 2% we should be good to go with also calculating the capability though. Is it not correct?

    • @learnandapply
      @learnandapply  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ok, how can you calculate capability from control charts? Can you please elaborate?
      The intent of control charts is to control your process by identifying and elimination special causes.

    • @luigi88953
      @luigi88953 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@learnandapply control charts and capability have different purpose, but technically we need control chart to calculate cpk. In cpk formula we have mean and standard deviation. They are both contained in control chart as it gives us all the info about the process. We often see specs as coming from external customer, but technically internal customer(departments, management) may give some spec to things like cycle time, procurement time, ppm. Statistically calculating capability on these things would make sense, although pratically we don't see that often. I like receiving feedback from valuable channels like yours, that's why I wrote.

    • @learnandapply
      @learnandapply  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, we need Rbar/d2 for calculating short-term capability. The question was different.
      I appreciate your thought process and active involvement.

    If the process is out of control, how to do the capability?

    • @learnandapply
      @learnandapply  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If the process is out of control, then whatever capability you are going to calculate is not correct and not consistent.
      Actually, there is no meaning of calculating capability, if the process is out of control.

    How to calculate Cp Cpk for one side specification?

    • @learnandapply
      @learnandapply  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cp won't be there, but use the formula for Cpk based on the specification limit (Higher or Lower).
      E.g. If you had specified the USL, then use the Cpk Upper formula.

    What if the data I had does not follow normal distribution ?

    • @learnandapply
      @learnandapply  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In that case, you need to identify which distribution fits your data by using 'Individual Distribution Identification'.
      Once you found out the distribution in your data, please use the nonnormal distribution option and select that distribution in the options.
      You can also go for the transformation of data to fit the normal distribution.
