Southern staff did a great job with these high school students!

I am not sure what it is about this year as opposed to last year but this one is so much more engaging from the dancers to the DMs. This was well worth the investment into these students. They looked like they are having a ball

This was GREAT and all of this in one week truly superior to the rest.

i marched in this band camp back in ‘22. i will say that this was a very great experience and like how this band is inspiring more musicians to show their talents. unfortunately, i ended up at Alabama State and ended up marching and crossing their band. BUT i never forgot the door that this band camp opened up for me and how it has helped me learn the HBCU style of marching. showing love from the MMH family 🐝🖤 hope to see yall again 😈

SOUTHERN IS THE BEST IN THE LAND‼️had so much fun at camp and I can’t thank the band staff, Human Jukebox partnerships, section leaders, and all who supported us through the camp. A hard 5 days but well worth it🩵🐆💛

Southern University Human JukeBox has the best band camp on planet earth. This was an incredibly amazing performance future Human JukeBox band members. The band sounds incredible, and the Drum Majors and dancers were all well on point. 🔥🔥🔥🔥
SU is the best band camp this was my second year going and it got better when you thought it couldn't it was really fun and met a lot of fun people
My name is Joshua Oates I'm 19 years old a High School Graduate of Broadmoor Senior High School and every since I was 9 years old I have been dreaming of Becoming the Freshmen Drum Major for the Southern University Human Jukebox Marching Band and becoming a High School Band Director or a College Band Director I wish that I was able to attend Southern University Band Camp but I have been struggling a lot but I will be auditioning to become the Freshmen Drum Major this summer I was given the opportunity to volunteer as a Band Director for the Southeastern Louisiana University Band Camp and I also hope that as the Freshmen Drum Major for the Southern University Human Jukebox Marching Band that my Future Wife is a Southern University Fabulous Dancing Doll.
Chile you made me tear up! I am praying you continue to work hard and see your dreams come true. Don't give up!
Proud mother here of one of the cymbal bandcampers (this was his very 1st ever band camp) and I am so proud of him, as well as, each and everyone of these kids. They sound AWESOME.

First band camp I’ve ever been to and it was definitely a 10/10 experience. Definitely recommend
I will honestly say, this group had more balance than any other group in the past. No over blowing, unnecessary octaves and stayed writhing the range of the written pieces. Nice sound SU! Looking forward to the fall!
I got chills watching them during “I Can’t Go For That”. It’s amazing what yall do with these kids in a few days. Their hard work and dedication looks and sounds great on the field.
This is an amazing performance by the Southern University Summer Band and Dance Team Camp 2024 participants. These students will always remember and cherish this experience, thanks to the faculty, staff, volunteers, and other supporters of this amazing event. I really enjoyed watching this performance.

Ima be real with you brudda. From what I seen this summer, jsu and txsu is gonna be a problem this upcoming year. Them boys then went out and recruited some dawgs on trumpet/mello. All I’m going to say is if Taylor Todd and Kenneth don’t get back to the playing real music (not that weak ass trap rap), re-install discipline and funk, it’s over man.

I'm all for the kids but think they need to have limit on each position because it's balance the sound out better. I've been playing for 30 years. My ears hear everything
I know you want perfection in sound and balance but as a teacher for 39 years, I applaud the directors and staff for giving these students the opportunity to participate. The important factor here was learning, participating in class sessions, learning skills and adding to their knowledge of music. I always gave children a chance and included students who were not always at the top but who tried hard and were sincere. I love THIS EXPERIENCE FOR THESE STUDENTS. I understand your point and rationale but let's start thinking about our children and the valuable experiences they need these days with so much negative to pull them away from positive experiences. Oh, I am not a musician and know very very little about music except do,re,me!🙃🙃🙃
100% agree man. Band camp is one thing, but only the top dawgs should earn a spot in the band. Doc kept the number around 150ish for a reason (to balance the sound). If you earned a spot in that 150, you were a dawg (no skaters). Taylor’s problem is he doesn’t weed out the weak. Too many tubas/ euphos has created an unbalanced sound & it clearly shows when Todd/Kenneth create weak arrangements catered to those specific sections. But going back to your point, too many numbers creates an “all star/mass band” sound (like any “S” band after Haymers departure.) It’s a very cluttered/ unpolished product being put out as of recent.
