49 as well. I wasn't a rail guy, but I was a stairs and drop off guy. I started skating again at 47. So I had to learn transition, which I rarely did before. But I still want to do stairs and drop offs, lol.
@@ericharmon7163 transition is very forgiving compared to those 10 stair handrails... trust me on this one. Sent me to the old folks home real quick. 50 here, Matt can verify who I am, and my videos on my channel do a good job of that also :D
So relatable i used to skate street, we didnt have the best transitions as i grww up in the the UK, now living in ghe US as a transition skater, feels right.
LOL, Babylon! I used to go up there to West Babylon and hit the Caffiene store to get records and mixtapes back in the '90's. I'm from Wainscott, NY originally. That's a fun little park. As you siad, you really don't need a huge footprint to have a great park. It's all about the flow and layout.
Thank you for coming to Jackson I actually didn’t know they tore down the slab. It doesn’t surprise me though. I live in Brandon, MS and there are no skateparks near me anywhere. Glad to know that place exists in Crystal Springs I will definitely be going now that I know they have a place to skate.
I should’ve checked your itinerary. Turns out I was probably watching your Pensacola episode while you were signing books at Lemuria…only about a mile away from my house! Damn! Hope the rest of the trip goes well.
Yeah, I was sad to see the Slab go. I had some fun sessions there(both working and skating). They're are some good homies down in Jackson still trying to make things happen.
Not quite warmed up but also done? At 42, this unfortunately happens all too often. On the rare occasion that everything feels right, and I’m able to just play around rather than fight for stuff, I then tend to overdo it. 🤷
This park looks great. The flat bar and downrail tricks were locked in. FS Slappy is more comfortable than backside. It is weird; I am all back-side grinds in the bowl, and in the street, I am all front-side grinds. Stay Rad. Skate Tomatoes 🍅
Hey man you should come to Tupelo sometime. We got a pretty decent concrete park now at Ballard that was made by the guys that did Burnside! its a back and forth park, which I am not a fan of, but in the back of it they did put in a 5-8 foot deep end bowl. Also about a mile away is Change Skateshop that Matt owns, which is my ex roomate and has been in the scene for 40 years. Hes got a SICK 3 foot wooden bowl inside the shop enclosed by chicken wire and has concerts every saturday night at the shop. The last contest we had here in august was sponsored by Red Bull and they brought their van out with the massive speakers and 15 skate shops across the deep south showed up.
My home state's been behind the curve but the new skateparks we've built lately have been fantastic. Olive Branch expanded theirs, the Gulf Coast is pushing for a new park, and I'm hoping my home city of Hattiesburg will build one someday.
Awe man I wish I had known you were coming through Mississippi! You doing a premier for the doc somewhere in state? I live up North MS now - and am at work - but id like to try to make it out if you are AND I can ...I saw you were down on the coast the other day, but where did you say this park was? I live in MS and didn't know about that one. Looks fun! Love what you do brother. Keep being an inspiration for sobriety and skateboarding!
Other than the friggin broken foot that I’m dealing with, I’ve been feeling pretty good with my skating at almost 38. Worried about what it’s going to be like when I start skating again. Out at least 3 months but probably more like 4 or 5. Keep pushing older skaters!
I know your pain. I had a lvl 4 ankle sprain and was out for at least 4 months and came back won a contest at the Chi House with an L cast on. :D dont go to a PT, rehab it yourself and save money. skateboarders are the toughest athletes on the planet next to MMA. have faith in yourself.
@ my ankles and knees didnt do me in after 10 years of those injuries. my shoulders did. apparently multiple dislocations dont like you popping and flailing your arms to catch balance.
@@donovanhays I really loath how I just gave up in 05 and never stepped on a board again. now tupelo has a real concrete park im itching every day to get back on. I stepped on a board at Change and it flew out from underneath me. I was competetive and won several contest across the south.. so you can imagine how I felt after that. pure shame. I got some clips on my channel to see what I was back in the day. its so depressing now.
ive never been too much of a rail skater either but ive dabbled a bit here and there with some crook grinds, bs 5050, feebles and bs smith on some 6 stairs etc. wouldnt say its ever been my forte though. always been better at transition or manny pads
To learn slaps you want a sidewalk not a parking curb! And don’t need bank to curb… just a small friendly curb, then move it up to bigger curb… how do you skate curbs and not slappy? You missed out on allot of fun :) enjoy
As a skater in Jackson. Thank you for this. Sorry you didn't get to experience the slab but glad you enjoyed crystal springs.
Is Tate still involved down there? This is Monk- I rode for Westside Skateshop in Hattiesburg with Bubba and now back in Tupelo.
Those Smith's on the bricks were nice.
Im 49 and i grew up in the 80’s. Ive never felt any inclination to try stairs or rails. I’ve always been a transition skater.

I swear to God I thought you were Matt Rx from CHANGE skate-shop in tupelo until I heard your voice and checked out your profile lol.
And…..
It's dope seeing the rail session! Your bag of tricks never ceases to amaze me.
You always say "I'm gonna warm up" and go directly for the kill 😂 Crazy skills

No way. My son lives in that town. We've skated there a few times. Man it would have been awesome to skate with you.
It's good weather there i'm so jealous course here in my country still rainning since 1st January 😢

Some rare early-grab action from Chad! ❤🎉 5:23
Had to get a stink bug in there
I always skated everything, vert was my thing! But when real street skating took off in the mid 90s I couldn’t hang with those pros!
i did a feeble fakie on vert once.... once...

That Back Smith! FS Feeble to Fakie how-to soon pls.
Its funny, I only do front side slappys, but doing it on a bank is a little nervy, lol. Backside always feels bad to me.

Thank you and wish we could’ve gotten to link. The closest I’ll be is a for a documentary premiere is Dallas, TX at 4DWN skatepark on 2/15
Much love brother

@@monkadelic13 my buddy has the same issue. His shoulder will hurt or even pop out just from throwing his arms around when skating
