  • No Tank's Land can prove to be an especially challenging scenario in Sprocket Tank Design, especially for newer players. In this video I'll break down all the tips, tricks, and methods that I use to make this scenario easy!

    This scenario was even worse when the first game dropped. I played it on day 3 and traction was so poorly implemented it was impossible to gain traction and you slipped into the smallest shell holes. And your engine could never produce enough power to get out.
    The journey to beat that level fundamentally changed me as a person

    the only 2 design that I made that manage to beat this level was a light 7 tons light tank in the shape of a mix between the French FT and a the German Panzer 38t, then a massive 25 tons behemoth with the shape of a mix of the hull of French Char 2C and the turret of the German Panzer 4 ausf.A
    and so in order to beat the level you either need a light enough tank to use the wooden bridge or a long enough hull to drive over the trenches, you don't really need effective thickness above 30mm as the enemy gun can barely pen a 15mm at 200 meters flat on, and so a simple side skirt can make your tank practically immune from the enemy shell,
    other than that you can set the gun and engine to whatever you like though I recommended you have at least 35mm of pen so you can snipe the enemy light tank and pen the rear of the big boy tank though you can just by pass them as they don't have a good mobility

      Gun dynamics were changed with 0.124 - now alot of the enemy vehicles have 30-40mm of penetration. 15mm is a bit insufficient nowadays except at very long range.

      @@thewonderwaffleofficial as I said 200meter is quite a far range specially for WW1 and inter-war era guns, a 15mm at 30-40 degrees can hold pretty well at medium ranges, and as everybody always does we tend to snipe the AT gun first then make our way to the artillery position so a thick armor aren't really necessary
      the only problem is the big boy tank which activate when you near the artillery which have around 45mm of pen at that close range and very strong armor but can hardly move from their spawn so you can avoid them
      but to be fair the main problem that people have aren't how be immune from enemy guns, but how to cross the damned trenches and not slide into a muddy hole

      I madw essentially a copy of the FCM 1A the 40 ton predecessor to the Char 2C and it found the level easy then again at 8.27m long trench crossing should be a dream

    I literally asked ChatGPT to roleplay as procurement board and give me specs. 1st try it nailed the main cannon penetration, armor, horsepower and size/weight. It demanded a tank with pretty good side armor but 9 tons top, I was struggling.

    I beat it with low-caliber gun. But i shaped my shells in such a way that they've became sort of a high-velocity darts. You may say that i invented WW1 APFSDS, but in fact, i just tried to recreate a cannon that was a thing back in the days, or rather same principle that some guns used. For example, S.Pz.B.41 - that gun has "two calibers". 28/20 mm. Сhannel narrows towards the outlet and it gives the shell more speed. More speed - more penetration. And thanks to relatively low caliber my reloader was able to reload the cannon pretty fast.

      My brother went in and made a 1mm caliper Canon, it reloads pretty much instantly, and it goes so fast it's not even funny, and with APHE anything is just one click away from destruction, truly gamebreaking

    No tanks land used to be really easy back in the day when the planks could actually carry weight. The lazily made trenches and underpowered engines really make this a tough map.
    I have spent most of my playtime playing no tanks land. I refuse to use any suspension but double bogey and I refuse to use any steering but braking. I've beaten it a few times, once even by making an artillery piece myself and just firing back.

      FYI, there currently is a bug with clutch braking where vehicles “oversteer” and point their sides/rear to the enemy.

    Best tank to beat this scenario with is actually a tank destroyer. Enough armor up front to bounce shots, dont have to worry about slow turret traverse, save on weight. Make it long enough to clear trenches, but enough engine for speed. We all think WW1 with the slow tanks, but speed is the only way to reliably cross the trenches and actually get to the end.

    From the testing I've done, you have to have decent enough armor to survive the two waves of enemy tanks, an engine with enough horsepower to cross the trenches and pull itself out of craters, and a gun that has a quick reload and enough penetration to take out the enemy tanks.
    I've beaten the scenario with two vehicles, a (somehow) 16 ton A7V knock off with a 5.7cm L/26 and 40mms of frontal armor, and a knock off 8 ton German LK II with a 3.7cm L/22 with 28mms of Frontal Armor, I did beat the scenario both times fighting largely solo as I told my AI teammates to halt upon starting the scenario, so I could more accurately test the vehicles performance.

    Honestly I found no tanks land to be not that much harder than the other scenarios. It had some things you had to work for but I just built a really big pancake that was long and was a tank destroyer. Third attempt with that design and I got it 👍

    Another way to make trench-crossing tanks is by making a tail
    you can see this on FT tanks

      Realistically, yeah, but Sprocket isn't the greatest in terms of realistically modeling traction, since idlers and sprockets don't have fully-modeled traction systems. Still better than War Thunder for some vehicles, at least.

    I remember that I used a small (about 14 tons) tank, which basically had only front armour and max engine, and it was both cheap and effective

    I just made a bootleg MK-IV heavy and stuck a 25 pounder in the hull and called it a day. It took me a while to get this mission beat but I’ve finally done that.
    Now I can finally move on to the rest of the missions.

    I just build a decently fast tank for ww1 with stupidly good armour for its weight and all that.

      Landships can be tricky to do, especially in this scenario, since you do have to be able to turn *very quickly.* Good luck!

    Greetings! Is it possible to XML that mission to allow the usage of 4 speed transmissions like on a Whippet tank?
    I just don't have this game and thinking of buying it.

      I haven't tried that, to be honest. I bet it's possible in some way, and if not you can always run a custom battle that has much fewer "checks" on if your vehicle is within the era limits or not.

    How i beat it:
    -Enable the cheat to switch to latewar
    -Use my MBT design
    -Profit
    I still got stuck countless times because it turns out modern MBT designs arent that great at crossing trenches and craters that big. But the inclusion of machine guns via file editing made it easy to destroy the AT guns.

      I very loosely followed that style with this vehicle. Given their original weight that was much heavier, it'd probably be alot more painful in this scenario.

    Even though tracks length, contact points and shape do matter in trench crossings. A vital part is putting that idle rpm near the limit, so you boost yourself out of trenches.

    When I did this mission I created what was essentially the FCM 1A (The much more sensible 40-ton precursor tp the Char 2c) just one of them is enough to smash this level every time

    the artillery shell probably says OF 135. According to war thunder (yes i just cited a videogame), shells with OF are usually high explosive

      I probably used a rapid-zoom on my mouse that involves pressing the scroll wheel sideways.

    If you make a light enough tank (~8t or less I think?) It can be pretty easy to beat, although you still do need some armor anyways.

    It is not really HARD. But this ingame era just not balanced really well.
    And for example this mission have some bug with movement that is not exist in sandbox. So it is not hard, it is just need to be fixed.
    The hard mission is one where there are several King Tigers in snowy forest.

    i found NTL easy i think the 3rd tank i ever built made it across and eventually killed everything took several attempts due to getting stuck in mud / getting stuck on terrain ... the games had several updates since then tho so i might have to give it another spin

    Gunner will be able to track moving targets with sufficient accuracy at 75% efficiency, below 75% they start moving horizontally and vertically separately.

      Yeah, I found that the official "minimum" value is 71% for it to work correctly. Kind of strange that it doesn't scale gradually, but that should change with geometric internals.

    Oh, I didnt know this scenario is hardest in the game. I retry bout 4 or maybe 3 retry to pass it. I just got the game because many TH-camr building super angle tank so I wanted to build one myself without go over weight and I did it. I too new to the game soo the chassie is MK1 game givin me cuz I dont understand UI and other freeform shape option soo I stick with MK1 chassie but I angle it so much that if artlitary not direct hit it cant kill me and enemy tank too. After few and die 2 times to artlitry I finally understand how to improve engine and extra angle with right weight all thick frontal and side armor and kill everything and drive through bomb with 10km speed and facing actual enemy MK1 but it cant pen me but I can and kill all of its gunner and burn a few of them. Heheheh

      Tanks will be more slippery in that scenario, but erratic steering can also occur due to misconfigured transmissions.

    ... I just made a field modification of my mid early war light tank for WW1 and drove past most things. I only now realised ppl struggle here (Low profile, very fast, needs speed for trenches)

      Alot of people do tend to struggle with the scenario, especially since it's the first one you see when opening the game, meaning new players who don't have the game mechanics down are thrown straight into this one.

      Sure, but it’s useless to give him more space since mobility performance isn’t affected by driver space. This may change in the future.

    I don’t get why everyone makes it sound so hard. I just make a tank capable of crossing without planks, good gun (ca. 90 mm) and thick armor. Sure it goes at 9 kph but it is still pretty easy. I have made around 7 tanks for this scenario and only one wasn’t able to make it, the other made it in under 10 tries each :/

      There’s alot of game mechanics that aren’t obvious from the start, like how riveted panels can mess with your ability to cross trenches. Hence why this video is meant for new players.

    ok just that i get that right
    ur target was 10 tons....
    u had to much space and then made the tank smaller
    with that u hit ur targets of 10 tons! (and i thought nice so hes gonna test and win now i guess)
    and then u started to decorate ur tank.... ( that was the moment that i dont get)
    u pushed up to 12 tons again and made even more space then there was before
    for deco?
    wha....?
    i mean dont get me wrong ur tank is good and there is no problem (except maybe the showing of complicated "deco" wich new players most likely will try to copy and fail to do so #frustration)
    but u cut down ur tracks and fule and stuff to save weight and space and then ruin the idea with deco
    so im a lil bit confuseld about it😅

      You're correct that the deco cancelled some of the weight savings. it's hard to expect new players to build a perfect tank though. The decoration was more to add style to the build (so that we weren't staring at a basic steel block for the second half of the video), but it also shows that you don't have to make a "perfect" tank to beat the scenario.
      TL;DR I showed how to build a close to "perfect" tank, then demonstrated that you don't need a perfect tank to win the scenario.

      Otherwise you can make your own by just taking a basic square and extruding the sides with a decreasing width, until you have a mostly round edge.

    I've read how this is the toughest but to me it's one of the easiest. I hate the snow filled one with a passion. I can't see them but the AI is lights out accurate. WW1 only is slow but I'm good with it in No Man's Land. If I take a late war 7 tonner I can finish it in about 1 min. 40ish seconds.

    No tanks land aint shit, give me 30 minutes I'll build you a tank that can beat it, the real trouble is crossroads, fighting a late war tank with mid war tech and you're at a weight disadvantage, it's really horrible. Taiga is just as bad because you can't see through the shrubs but the ai can and once again, you're at a weight disadvantage, they get like 7 tanks and you get at most 3.

      For alot of people, not really. There’s alot more factors involved which scenarios like Dunes and Ambush don’t have.
