Unless you know what you're doing you'll die (and even then you'll probably die). Or you'll almost die in such a bad way that you'll be ruined for life. One of my favorite short stories is 'To Build a Fire' about a man going on a dangerous but totally achievable hike that he thought he could do alone and the story excellently shows very vividly just how easily it is to die in the wilderness (most people don't realize that the wilderness is the literal wilderness, there are no people and help takes a very long time to arrive). From just one mistake he was done, there was no 'going home'. From that point on the story is simply about a man dying slowly. But there are countless real life examples of people doing things like this. Most die alone frozen in their huts or others are mauled by bears but some live to tell their story and they're just dead inside. Not trying to shit on your dreams/fantasies but I don't think it's as glamourous or fun as most people think. Going 'completely off the grid' requires you to fight every day to survive. You're battling the cold/weather and basic needs just as much as you're battling your own sanity. There's a very good reason we form communes.

These types of videos always have millions of views. I think I speak for a lot of people when I say that feeling in touch with nature and the peace and tranquility it offers is something a lot of us crave and need. If you have good clay, with lots of iron in it. Then you got a great building material. My brother and I did build a roof on a play-hut, back when we were kids. We used multiple layers og plant material and clay. First we covered the roof with pine branches and made it as light proof as possible. The we added a layer of clay. Then while it was still fairly wet, we added a layer og dead plant material, as much as would cover and then another layer of clay. Finally we added a layer of the moss that were growing on top of the clay rich soil. It was so well build, that it lasted a couple of years.
This forest looks so perfect.. moss, pine trees, a little river, clay, flat stones, dry grass.. The only thing missing are some flowers, carrots and berry bushes for a garden..
11:23 A tip for the bed. Take more thicker fresh (pliable) pine wood branches as a base before you spread out the padding material. This gives you a little more elasticity, so that the bed is not hard as a board in the morning and there are still enough air pockets under your butt as heat insulators....:)

This man is obviously an amazing contractor, architect, or custom wood builder or ALL the above. It would be extremely challenging to build something so solid and unique as a normal average joe. Again, this is a solid build!! I wish we could all hit the brakes on the rat race and patiently all build smaller living tiny homes and live simpler and more humble.
Another refreshing man with knowledge and able to improvise in basic survival technics.I have learned so much from him, just with I was 40years younger.
Wow. I have watched quite a few of these woodcraft/survival/primitive shelter type of videos. This is by far, one of the best I have ever seen. The craftsmanship is astounding. Well done.
yeah I mean... I want to believe, and to be fair the video never says the material was exclusively sourced in those woods, but he not only has perfectly sized planks but also a ton of dried, same thickness wooden stems in what seems to be walking distance. It does show the skill though, even if the material bit is questionable.
@@emriys1334 yeah and he conviently lives in an area with the worlds softest dirt with no roots in it and has all the pine needles and moss to do this. My woods dont have pine needle or moss like that and the dirt is extremely tough
@@BigCool95 i did something extremely simmilar to this near the ocean in europe when i was a kid, both the forest and the soft earth match what we had. We could actually scoop plaques of pine needes/earth/mos out of the forest directly, and lay them neetly over the wooden scructure, neater then this. Our parents allowed us to sleep in it for a week and it stopped the rain for 2 days. Pretty sure longer sustained rain would seep through as it did get very damp inside. I am pretty sure you can pull this off in about any semi wet boreal and temperate pine forests.
The effort and hard work involved in this build Will NEVER be truly appreciated, until one attempts this kind of build for one's self... Well done Sir, you are a hardcore working man!

This is really great. I've watched the original Primitive Technology channel for years now, but the environment he's in is nothing like here in Finland. Seeing your video and how it's in a much more familiar kind of forest where you need more clothing than shorts to survive just the temperature alone. One thing the video is missing is explanation to what you are doing. Could write it in the description with timestamps or as closed captions/subtitles as they come up.
Amazing! I love that you use all old techniques to build! It's funny that many people don't realize that techniques your using an materials are the way people before technology would build their homes. Especially the way you dug down to get the specific type of mud! I dream of building a mud home one day! Thank you for taking the time to make this awesome detailed video! 🙏 I'd love to see you build a cob home! I'm always looking for ideas to add to my research! Thanks again!!!
Wow stunning build! All of the comments sum it up nicely. Is that roof waterproof? Genuinely interested as thatch usually has all the straw running in one direction.
I think it might do the trick for a rainy day or two. I used to be in the air cadets and we were taught to use pine for the roof of survival shelters. We had rain once or twice (rather light though) and were perfectly shielded from it too. But these were meant to be temporary/disposable shelters, so there was no concern for durability. They would probably become useless after a few days of heavy rain pour haha

I myself love the fact at least from what I have seen, that you only use trees that have fallen naturally not killing live trees. Great job. What happens to all of your other creations?
It would have been better if he had used live trees. Not only would that make his shelter last way way longer, but cutting down small growth in a dense forest like this would have increased the growth and health of the other trees.
@@ATHOSOutdoorProspector Athos, have you thought about allowing others access to those beautiful homes you've created or building for someone who appreciates your work?
Okay, I've seen a few of these primitive technology builds and I absolutely love it. But my question is: Where do you do it? Do you just walk into a random forest and start building on someone else's property, or do you actually own a large chunk of the wilderness?
Three thoughts about this video: 1.) Amazing work, it looks fantastic. Makes you want to live there. Maybe. 2.) I feel sad that I'd never be able to do this here in Germany, where building yourself a mini house like this would be considered illegal and net you a serious fine. 3.) Wherever you live, don't you have ticks there? That's a major reason why I'm afraid to spend much time in the woods nowadays. There's ticks everywhere. Anyway, keep doing what you're doing, it's an inspiration :)
@@Myrslokstok I am, but you can only get vaccinated against one of the two diseases that come from a tick bite. And unfortunately I have the experience that after every visit to the woods, I find a tick crawling on me. Luckily, I always found them so far before they decided to bite.
I really enjoy watching the whole process and look forward to the next video where you insulate. Where in the world did you build this shelter? Are you going to build a composting toilet? How will you get drinking water in the winter? Your design is so beautiful and whimsical. I wish I had seen this 40 or 50 years ago.
yup, 100 foot of 1/2" plastic pipe laid uphill to a creek just needs a faucet valve. specific location selection is very important, 100 foot long and 5-6 foot of drop will flow pretty good. decently buried will resist freezing.

I have no words to describe my admiration. You are the absolute master of woodland shelters. Congratulations!!
How have i only found this channel just today? 😭 This is amazing. The moment i saw it come together it made me want to make sketches of little houses in the woods. This is like in those fairy tales.
I just came across your videos, this is the first one I've watched. I LOVE camping videos where there is no talking and you can just see how people live/camp. you've given me great ideas already on how to make just my weekend camping with my family better. Thank you!!!
Camping is very risky.
is one of the ideas to camp in complete silence?
no talking or flashy, has a calming ambience and just straight to the point, excellent video
Thank you very much!
Remarkable! Truly a talent and artistry that can't be matched. Thank you !
Everything about this is so calming to watch and impressive as well.
I have.
The key to mastery is detail and patience
Accept Jesus. Read the Bible, all about being humble. Accept you’re a sinner who needs Jesus’s Blood Atonement and Sacrifice.
We can. And we might have to.
Well done.
I am amazed this man was able to find the elusive 1x8 wooden planks, he truly is a master of his craft.
yeah I mean...
The energy of this guy, collecting materials and creating these wonderful cabins amazes me.
The effort and hard work involved in this build Will NEVER be truly appreciated, until one attempts this kind of build for one's self... Well done Sir, you are a hardcore working man!
This is so soothing, so relaxing to watch. Really helps me during these turbulent times with everything going to hell.
Yeah... everything. 🙄 I bet you're fun at a party.
Watching this feels like I’m right there with him. Hearing only what he hears. Seeing only what he sees. You can almost think what he’s thinking. It’s probably nothing new to him, but I bet the level of peace felt after finishing this masterpiece surpasses all. Awesome work my guy 🙌🏼

If you ask me, a middle age woman, where I'd like to live. I'd say the same as those children. I so crave the forest sounds and connection to mother earth before I die.

You look like a hardworking, smart, and meticulous guy. I wish I grew up with someone like yourself when I was younger. You are living the dream, my friend. That shelter is magnificent, and looks awfully cozy. Beautiful work, absolutely beautiful
you are very artistic. With every build you evolve a new look which is beyond Bushcraft but very doable. Keep up the good work and I will look for more Athos.
Truly beautiful, your skills and hard work pay off. Its lovely to see beauty being added to a landscape using Mother Nature herself. Hats off as always to you sir 🎩👏🏻
This is amazing to watch. The house and the work that has gone into it is brilliant! Thanks for sharing.
Best ever. No background music and other annoying sounds. Just you, your fantastic work, your huge knowledge and nature. As I said BEST EVER! Bravo 👏👏
So satisfying, didn't get bored for a second of it. The only part that threw me though was the door, i can't see how you could have planed down those door planks without some heavier tools and a lot of time. Great work though, looks incredible
He made the door elsewhere.
You always build the most fantastical houses ive ever seen! Thanks for sharing
Amazing video, this is such a magical little house, I'm really impressed. I just wanted to say, am I the only one who's worried about having a fire inside a tiny cabin made of dry pine needles? I know he built a fireplace and a chimney, but i would still be a little scared of sleeping there lol. Anyways thank you so much for the really cool video, well done man!
I thought that too about the pine needles. Incredible and inspiring all the same
I'm worried about the lengths this guy is going to just to get away from the ole ball and chain !!!
It should be fine if he always puts the fire out before he lies down to sleep☺️
Leyre FL, He’ll be be watching the fire carefully and dowse it with water probably. I think there’s a lot of moisture in the air there, too.
@@laceandribbonsviolin lol the fire is how he stays warm enough at night
Such a labor of love. I could watch this all day
This is really great.
If I randomly stumbled upon this taking a stroll in the woods,
I would instantly run away thinking a witch lives there.
Just amazing job! Very cool
My toxic trait is thinking I could do this first try in 2 days
probably could do a decent copy tbf, this dude comes up with it all and knows how to strcuture it
Master Athos! There are no words to describe what you are doing. I‘m just speechless!
Thanks again!
OMG this looks like so much FUN! I can already imagine seeing the little elves & gnomes running around. 🥰🍀🍃
Genuinely interested as thatch usually has all the straw running in one direction.
i have the same question
It doesn't appear that it's meant to keep out rain.
No, it made to looks cool on the picture, but wise man said: which looks good - probably works bad.
@@paulwooton4390 Agreed, it does appear that it is meant to garner clicks and views . . . for that, it is superbly done 👍👍
Thank you so much for not adding background music. I really enjoyed watching this video with the sounds of nature. Very interesting and soothing.
Amazing. With the uncertain times we're going through, these type of survival skills and craftsmanship seems to be the more and more convenient.
Absolutely agree with all positive comments. I personaly adore such kind of a craft. I consider having this kind of a skills nowadays is a miracle. I wonder how much difficult to acquire this kind of crafting or just simply wanting this kind of a life.
Tools: Axe, hatchet, knife, saw, drill, awl, spoon, scoop. Materials: cotton/nylon twine and rope, canvas tarp/ground cover, boards for door. Other: metal/copper pot, bottle, wooden buckets, kettle, chain.
это точно. Если человеку хочется спать на СЫРОЙ земле, можно было просто поставить палатку.
Своими глазами видел как охотники строят халабуды которые по несколько зим стоят. Я эта первой же ночью упадет.
Hablando como si lo fuesemos a hacer 🤣🤣
Yeah, Finland without tools and clothes is hardly survivable though
I love videos like these. They are pure, authentic and just impressive. What a beautiful, magical, survival structure.
Thank you very much!
If these videos were available when I was a kid in the 90s me and my friends would’ve 100% attempted this in the local forest.
This is so beautiful! It is so lovely what we can craft from hand tools and from nature. Well done!
We? I don't see any evidence that you can build anything.
I know right! At the same time it is so sad to see how we destroy the nature for profit and greed :(
@@Vaitria So sad.
Okay, that's really impressive, now I wanna see what you can build on creative mode
This is so inspiring to have a friend or 2 to do this together & thru much patience and practice get even somewhat close to your amazing 👏 talent! As an Eagle Scout I have above average training both as a Scout (1992) but working with the earth & living like we should be/truly integrate into society! This is the stuff they need to teach in school as well as community to help in the homeless population! Set Government lands & teach such skills. I know that sounds easier than it would be but nothing else has worked. 🙂✌👍🤟☝🙏🙏🙏💯
Absolutely brilliant! Very much enjoyed watching. Have always wanted to build a little plot like this. I’m a carpenter and love to build things with my hands. Even with a workshop full of power tools I still use basic hand tools on personal projects. Not actually sure why to be honest lol. My brother is the same. Well if the zombie apocalypse ever comes, I say thank you in advance for these videos haha!! Keep up the brilliant work.
Thank you very much 🙏
Just extraordinary! I can't wait for the next video as you continue with this beautiful build!
This is incredibly impressive. Really enjoyed this video!
there is absolutely no way for me to describe the wonder and joy that came over me from watching this, thank you so much for sharing- this has made my week
I myself love the fact at least from what I have seen, that you only use trees that have fallen naturally not killing live trees. Great job. What happens to all of your other creations?
All my creations are always in the woods 🙏 In other places
It would have been better if he had used live trees. Not only would that make his shelter last way way longer, but cutting down small growth in a dense forest like this would have increased the growth and health of the other trees.
@@ATHOSOutdoorProspector Athos, have you thought about allowing others access to those beautiful homes you've created or building for someone who appreciates your work?
Okay, I've seen a few of these primitive technology builds and I absolutely love it. But my question is: Where do you do it? Do you just walk into a random forest and start building on someone else's property, or do you actually own a large chunk of the wilderness?
If I found this on my property i'd probaly just let the guy stay he put in alot of work for it.
@@NickPCage 🧢
You'll need a flat clearing, less common than you'd think.
That's what I thought as well!
Nah, they usually own the land they are building on.
Since I was 5 yo I've always dreamed being alone with no neighbors and has a medival house with a river close to a forest ..
Absolute heaven. Love everything you've done here. Cozy as heck.
This house looks so magical! I would expect to see it in a movie like to hobbit or something similar, it just looks super homey and comfy
Three thoughts about this video:
1.) Amazing work, it looks fantastic.
When I was young I was never bitten by a tic and I spend a lot of time playing in the woods.
Maybee you should get vaccinated.
@@Myrslokstok I am, but you can only get vaccinated against one of the two diseases that come from a tick bite. And unfortunately I have the experience that after every visit to the woods, I find a tick crawling on me. Luckily, I always found them so far before they decided to bite.
@@Myrslokstok I don’t think there’s a vaccine for Lyme disease
@@Myrslokstok that's not how vaccines work.
Boy, Geralt is really enjoying his retirement, isn't he
Minecraft texture packs are getting so detailed! Incredible!
I'm wondering how this little house would do if it were to rain. It looks like great fun but if it rains, does the roof protect the inside properly?
yeh good question
I have anxiety just looking at using pine needles at all. The fire hazard that poses is so high.
That shit is one stray cinder away from going up in a blaze. It looks great but not exactly livable.
Well done! 💯this man is probably a retired engineer or builder that has assets that take care of his living expenses and it affords him to go out in nature to implement older building methods with materials on-site which is very practical and smart. Love the masonry “mud” and stone chimney. Very strong and practical Also the mud/stone fire place to heat with Roof style with grass roof Awesome construction with the drilled holes pegged with Tenons
*Let's take a moment to appreciate how he used **_dead wood_** instead of cutting down live trees.*
This comment encapsulates the idiocy of anyone who would take this video and its sad one-season structure seriously.
