    This 1974 Alfa Romeo Montreal is an immaculately restored, example with low miles and a beautiful finish inside and out. The Montreal was produced from 1970-1977, designed by Marcello Gandini for Studio Bertone. Gandini had previously designed the Lamborghini Miura, and some crossover styling details are apparent both from outside, and especially under the drivers seat. Under the clamshell hood is a fuel-injected, four-cam 2.6L V8 making a supposed 200 horsepower, but we suspect actually it produces quite a bit more, along with one of the most fantastic engine notes we've ever heard and a stratospheric-for-the-time 7,000 RPM redline. By the end of its run,, the Montreal cost more than a Porsche 911 Turbo or Citroen SM. Fewer than 4,000 total examples of the Montreal were built, and towards the end of the run, Alfa Romeo had trouble selling the last of them. Today they are incredibly collectible, and on the retail market, this example would fetch between $125,000 and $150,000.

    Just shows beauty is in the eye of the beholder; I think this is one of the best looking cars ever.

    • @MindDezign
      @MindDezign 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mark McMarkface well is is from some angles.Too many hands or market department demands can turn pure beauty into kit carish unrefinement. This car is almost there. If you see it as the most beautiful ,your designer eye is over looking some aspecs to get to the pleasing ones. So be it....Its far from ugly.
      But its the total balance of the over all attention to detail.Like a perfect song...it flows, is memorable.
      A few of the angles on this car needed a little more resolve to flow into the great angles it does have.

      MindDezign Please note I said one of, not the most. I'm not a designer, it's the overall impression the car makes including its size, noise and image that contribute to its looks. Note also I said I think; I was just expressing my humble opinion without being absolutist.

    Love to see a Montreal....BUT,
    Please at least mention something about the quad cams, the 8 individual throttle body's, the amazing mechanical Spica fuel injection, dual CD ignition systems used, dry sump lubrication...and what else. These among many Italian engines are amazing engines for a reason.

      S Elshout amazingly "rare" and thats a crying shame all that Mastery kept from the world.
      It was a different time then and its a shame thats a beautiful motor. I just hope it doesn't suffer from porous alluminum like most Alfas get stricken with over time.

    My dad switched from a Mini Cooper S to a Giulia Super when me and my brother outgrew the Mini. The Giulia was an ex-demo that (the late) John Attenborough (younger brother of David and Richard) blagged for him - he was MD of Alfa Romeo GB at the time.
    Anyway, an anecdote; John managed to crash and total a Montreal in the Swiss Alps c. 1972/1973. He survived with "cuts and bruises" after going down a ravine because he _wasn't_ wearing a seat-belt - consensus was that he would have been pinioned by the steering-column had he not been thrown over to the passenger side during the crash.

    It makes me so happy to see how courteous to cyclists Matt is. As a car guy who, on occasion, will roam the streets on two wheels without a motor, a little bit of extra space when passing cyclists goes a long way. And of course it goes both ways; I am careful not to hold up traffic and to be very predictable in the way I ride because I know how frustrating cyclists can be to drivers.

    Wonderful to hear you sing the praises of this car after bashing it. There's something special about a car with styling so bold that its often nodded to but never imitated directly. Imagine what a modern tiny 2.5 V-8 would be like mated to a proper overdrive transmission though...I'd bet good fuel economy would become a real thing and the driver would retain that glorious sound to go with it.

    Love the filming and cutting! Great video quality! I think that should be said out loud. The Montreal is a dream car. I happened to not miss it during my youth. Great car to draw into the spotlight!

      Sir Moke nope these V8’s made big power especially the autodelta prepped engines. Europeans know how to build low displacement engines and make power.

    Nice to see you enjoy the Montreal and it earning your praises. I remember one of the previous Alfa one takes with Afshin (of Petrolicious) where you said you weren’t a fan of the car because of the looks. Nice to see this one changed your opinion. ;-)
