  • Joe Ghartey was full of praise for Mohammed Polo, he told us his personal experience of watching Polo in the 70’s and especially in AFCON 1978 which Ghana won. He also agreed that some of the old players were better than the new ones we celebrate of TV today. See video... 5mins... and have your say.

Adolf Amah was unique, I have never seen his style of play or any footballer play like him.

Point of correction; Dan Oppong was a defender, he played #2. His nick name was Mayanga, also Iddi Amin.

@@benjillobulletschannel-bbc9374 You’re right Dan Owusu of Bofoakwa’s fame. Yes he was a striker. Both Kwasi Owusu and Dan Owusu the Sunyani duo played for Black Stars.

Awuley Quaye, the captain of the victorious 1978 squad played the nr 3 position not nr 2.

Polo was injured for the 1978 AFCON. Ghana wasn’t taking him to the tournament.
But Agyeman Prempeh, the Kotoko nr 11 who was going to replace Polo had his leg broken at the Elwak Stadium in a match between SS74 (Acheampong’s soldiers team) and Kotoko.
Ghana was in disarray. Nigeria sports writers started mocking Ghana that we didn’t have a team (because Ghana was making lots of noise that we wanted to win the Cup for the third time and keep it for ever as Brazil had done to the World Cup)
In comes Polo though not fit. Only God knows the amount of pain killers they pumped into him. In fact, Polo didn’t play in the first two matches. His first match was our 3rd match against the then Upper Volta, now Burkina Faso, who were not that strong during those days. He played all our remaining matches
Adolf Armah who was our choice nr1 for the nr 6 position got injured (during the first? match) and Kyenkyenhene took over.
In the final match against Uganda, Anas felt sick very early in the game and had to be replaced. We were lucky that Opoku Afriyie gave us two goals in the first half that unsettled the Ugandans.
Phillip Omondi, an Army Captain was a gem for Uganda.
    This is my little contribution

Yes, you are a history gem. All your assertions are factual. Agyeman prempeh was injured in a match against S.S 74. He got that injury from Strong man Kwame Sampson 🤣🤣🤣

According to Abdul Razak (Alhaji Golden) in a recent interview, the long-range pass he received to score the golden goal actually came from defender Awuley Quaye, not Mohammed Ahmed (Polo).
