That looks like several steps: 1) factoring two coefficients, 2) identifying which combination of factors provides the right difference, 3) reversing the signs, and 4) performing the final division
better than using the whole quadratic equation to find 2 answers and select one from that if not possible we should give the value of both answers so how is your question remotely connected to the quadratic formula...
It kinda works for every equation but in some equation you will have to use square root of numbers to get the sub equal to b and multiplication equal to ac. Use quadratic /shri dharamcharaya formula there
