    Mike that was brilliant, thanks so much. I've always been a bit confused about the gas options.
    Thanks for taking the time to explain it!

    You should also check your equipment instructions to find out what type of cylinder is suitable for use with your equipment.
    Some equipment can equally run on butane and propane with no loss of performance : -
    Butane is best suited to spring and summer use as it burns slightly hotter and much cleaner than propane (perhaps just a very slight yellow tipping visible to the top of your burner flames) and cooks food slightly faster too,
    Propane can be used all year round and has the advantage of operating at much cooler temperatures down to -42c whereas butane fails to work (if at all) in cooler temperatures.
    If equipment instructions state PROPANE GAS ONLY, then it is imperative that you follow this recommendation.

    This may be out of the topic. Let's say I purchase a cooking appliance, a griddle, or a bbq from germany. and then I move to Sweden and take the thing with me and get another type of gas bottle because of availability (PC/PK5 is common in Sweden), but the fitting is different. So I most likely have to swap the regulator but my regulator is from germany and it is rated for 50mbar and the Swedish regulator is 30mbar. Can I swap them or do I have to look for the same gas bottle because of the regulator fitting?

    • @AttwoollsCoUk
      @AttwoollsCoUk  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The regulator tends to be unique TJ the bottle, so you can’t change the regulator without changing the bottle. Some companies like Campingaz distribute to all over the world so you can get refills where ever you travel. Where as PC, Calor or PK5 are normally just available in the country you are situated.

    Good luck to anyone who wants to get an initial first bottle in the UK right now as it's simply impossible. Calor, Flogas and all have suspended all new contracts/purchases as they simply don't have the stock to fulfil the needs of those who already have bottles let alone new customers who have purchased BBQ's etc but for love nor money can get any bottles to use them. It's a pretty piss poor situation and one that is not gonna get any better real soon either :(

      If you have a blue (butane) bottle then it will be the gas as it doesn’t work well at low temperatures, so I would change the regulator and get a orange (propane) bottle which will work at minus figures.

    • @anthonyperkins7556
      @anthonyperkins7556 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No. The valve for Calor Patio Gas cylinders is specific to the Patio Gas 27mm regulator and won't operate with any other type of propane regulator at 37mbar pressure.
      You will have to purchase a regular Calor Propane cylinder with POL screw on connection and use a screw on propane regulator.
      Bullfinch Gas Equipment Limited have some high pressure regulators for propane from 1 bar to 3 bar pressure and these are available from many larger Calor Gas dealers and Calor Centres selling Bullfinch equipment.
      BOC and Murex also sell high pressure single stage propane regulators for cutting / scarfing equipment, and this may also help as these are high pressure, these are sold at BOC Gas & Gear Centres and some BOC / Murex Welding Equipment stockists.

      You can't do that. Butane and propane screw on regulators have different threads (LH and RH). Butane clip on regulators only fit butane cylinders with a 21mm valve (Calor Gas Butane / Flo-Gas Butane (yellow) / Birmingham Auto Gas and similarly), and propane clip on regulators only fit propane cylinders with a 27mm valve (Calor Patio Gas / Flo-Gas Leisuregas and similar).

      kyla porter check your equipment instructions for the type of gas and cylinder that you need, this should be stated.
      It will either state it can run on both butane and propane or PROPANE GAS ONLY.
      Armed with this, pick up a cylinder of your choice from a Calor Gas dealer, if in doubt, take the appliance regulator with you if unsure, they'll know precisely what you want and provide it.
