  • We naturally hatched baby chicks in this episode and learned a lot. I don't think we will ever go back to an incubator since this worked so well for us.

    Hey there...my name is Mr. Don and I work for a before and after care program for the YMCA here in PA. We have been discussing baby chicks here and we watched your video. My friend Isabelle (first grade) said, "That was an awesome chick video!" She has been spending time with baby chicks with her grandparents and she has been teaching me about it. For instance, she knew your hen and the babies were bantams by the feathers on their feet. Thanks for the fun video! It is both educational and fun! Regards!

    That was FUN!
    It takes more than 24 - 48 hours to lay a clutch of eggs, so of course it takes longer than 48 hours for all of them to hatch.
    I wonder if it would be a good idea to move the nursery coop over to the side of the big coop to make the transitions easier.
    That rooster crows more than any rooster I've ever heard! LOL

    • @TKCL
      @TKCL  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      He only crows when I'm talking 😡. I plan to build a nursery inside if the main Coop for transition. The eggs she hatched were collected over "days" from 3 different hens. She's raising them all as her own.

    Congrats grandpapa! Is so fun to watch momma teach her babies to eat and them to come running when she found something for them. I think she stayed so long on the nest was because you had food/water right there for her babies to eat so she was free to continue incubating. The newly hatched chicks must start eating after 48hours from hatching so that's why they leave the nest. The coop offered food and shelter so she was free to keep the babies warm under her and eat. She's a really good hen. The 2nd egg she pushed off the nest, did you mark it before putting back under her? Just curious if that was the egg that didn't hatch.
    Now you get to contemplate who was the mother of the chicks😁

    • @TKCL
      @TKCL  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No I didn't mark it and I have been wondering that myself. It was cold the day I found it, it had been out a while apparently. Bummer, but those things happen.
