One of the most patrotic songs ever written. Just listening to this makes me proud to be British!! What a great National Anthem this would make....Love it. The way these boys sing it is just wonderful
All generations of Libera Squadrons have been, and continue to be the finest class of world choirs. This generation however, happens to be my personal all time favourite. There are MANY choirs out there. Libera rule this market. They do today. Libera. The Rolls Royce / Bentley of harmony and choral excellence.
My favorite patriotic song! Initially I was wondering why this was dragging as most renditions move along much faster. But once the children began to sing, combined with the musican arrangement, I found it haunting. Awesome!
despite the beautiful violin playing, and clever acoustic production - and the moving unbroken voices, this just drags too much for me. Slower isn't necessarily more moving.
I have no idea why, this has to be one, if not the most powerful songs ever compiled. The poem combined with Holst just seems to make every British mans heart sore!! A tear in my eye and such elation in my heart. Totally wonderful!!!!!!!
To all the families who fought for our freedom: God’s blessing to you! “The final sacrifice” much love to you from us who never forget 🇬🇧 May God bless all of Europe, and God bless America.
It doesn't matter whether you live in Britain, the U.S., or Ireland. This is a beatiful song and if the lyrics hold true for you than it applies to you and wherever you are currently living. That said, there should not be any of these ridiculous comments about how much greater one country is compared to another. That's NOT what this song is about. It's about treasuring the country you live in and being patriotic towards it.
This song gives me the chills! Every note they hit is so perfect, and angelic that i feel so at peace! and all these nasty comments that people write on this page is really unfair, b/c i'm sure Libera didnt want these comments to be under this page!
I vow to thee, my country, all earthly things above, Entire and whole and perfect, the service of my love; The love that asks no question, the love that stands the test, That lays upon the altar the dearest and the best; The love that never falters, the love that pays the price, The love that makes undaunted the final sacrifice. I heard my country calling, away across the sea, Across the waste of waters, she calls and calls to me. Her sword is girded at her side, her helmet on her head,[6] And around her feet are lying the dying and the dead; I hear the noise of battle, the thunder of her guns; I haste to thee, my mother, a son among thy sons. And there's another country, I've heard of long ago, Most dear to them that love her, most great to them that know; We may not count her armies, we may not see her King; Her fortress is a faithful heart, her pride is suffering; And soul by soul and silently her shining bounds increase, And her ways are ways of gentleness, and all her paths are peace.
on the contrary, I believe that in the early 70s or 80s, St. Phillips' boys choir (Libera's predecessor) has produced finalists and I believe also a winner of the competition. What many people fail to realize is that St.Philips is actually a very small parish church, unlike the large cathedrals. It is easy to be excellent when you have rehearsals every day, plus voice lessons, and you live at school.
I saw Libera on Channel 12 last night and I was HIGHLY impressed! You guys have voices like the highest level in Heaven! We sing this Hymn in our Church and to hear you guys sing it was like the doors from Heaven opened up! You have a lot of talent!
@luverlything I am not British and I absolutely agree with you. Seeing these boys sing this song, really does question why any war is necessary. Such humble tunes should reside in everyone's heart, so heaven will definitely be on earth ... and not even a crystal tear is required to drop on a grave - except at the ends of our times.
@muffiecat I can very well relate with you. Libera did their own version of "Bayan Ko" (My Country") when they toured the Philippines in '09. Like "I Vow to Thee My Country", this is a very important song for our people. It was written during the dictatorship govt that banned it from being sung publicly. It was the song we sang when we had our people power revolution to kick that dictator out. We sang this at the funeral of the president that brought democracy back to us. We thank Libera!!
I agree it's a shame that we don't hear about some of the other choirs as much as we do about libera, but I do think we should be grateful to libera speading the word about the genre. Libera is often the gateway for many into the world of boychoirs - they make the music interesting and more relevant to the everyday joe. Actually, all those "mindless idiots" you talk about probably wouldn't be listening to boychoir music if they hadn't discovered Libera in the first place.
You are lucky then. Not many have that opportunity. When one lives half a world away (like in Korea or Japan), one only has the videos. Besides, it's all a matter of personal preference. Depends on what type of music one likes. If libera spreads the boychoir sound to rockers and pop listeners, I'm all for it. For me comparing Libera (the public face) to the other Cathedral choirs is like comparing apples to oranges - different concept, different sound.
Lord Barrington Smithe They can try to do everything to remove Britannia's Flag but they forgot One major thing that pretty wedged in is The Ethics and The Language. So when they say "Britannia Rules The Waves" The proof is in the pudding so to speak, lol
@musicqueenyana I as Brit, fear for my beloved island home land, are identity is slowly being eroded away, we are not aloud to be patriotic, for fear it may a fend, are traditions and culture, way of life is gone, and we are not the same Christian country as we once were, we have no morals or respect any more, when our country calls us, we dont even answer any more, we turn are backs on her, please keep the America that we all know, the free world. Brothers a cross the oceans.
Also would like to say that there are many types of musicality - sure, the singers at kings' or st.pauls may have better vocal technique (not really...maybe the soloists), but to blend as Libera does, and to sing with individual mics picking EVERYTHING is also another type of skill. A simple melody that is very slow is often harder to sing than a catchy fast one. Besides, have you been to St.Phillips and heard the actual church choir? I'd expect you'd be pleasantly supprised.
@truthful3 :) Other countries love taking our songs and calling them their own lol (Pomp and circumstance) by Elgar. Made into a graduation thingy " I don't know what to call it." I bet most americans wouldn't know that its a patritic piece. i.e (Land of hope and glory) I love Americans :)
Ave Maria gratia plena Dominus tecum Benedicta tu in mulieribus et benedictus fructus ventris tui lrsus Sancta Maria Mater Dei ora pro nobis peccatoribus nunc et in hora mortis nodtrae. Amen.
@teabag1231 If the comments upset you, don't read them. Comments are silent unless you allow them to make a noise. Give yourself a little squeeze and have a nice cuppa. The feeling will soon go away.
@luverlything They disappear because they derive from pageantry which in turn has its basis in our military. The loss of empire and soldiers no longer wearing number 1 dress in battle is why we don't see the tradition, authority and honour as represented by regimental dress. Agree its a great song, not sure why the boys are an epitome of these things though. I think the greatness of our country is still very much present.
For those who don't know, current Libera member Luca Brugnoli is raising funds to record a solo album. He's featured in the "Christmas Carols with Libera" and "If" albums, as well as the online concert "Apart but Together". Here's a link to his crowdfunder video (Link to Kickstarter page in description): th-cam.com/video/Eyq0SmvPMfQ/w-d-xo.html

Beautiful. I wish they wasn't lip syncing, but the fact they were able to create it in the first place is inspiring. One of the best versions I've ever heard!

It makes me proud to be British too... I'm Belgian tho 😅
You obviously haven't studied history.
Patriotic! What a foul word to describe a beautiful poem and music! When will humanity tare down their fictive barriers and become one humanity!

This is the very best Libera line up in my opinion.
My favorite patriotic song! Initially I was wondering why this was dragging as most renditions move along much faster. But once the children began to sing, combined with the musican arrangement, I found it haunting. Awesome!

This song is perfect with these little innocent voices. Angelic
The hymn is sung with a mystical quality. It's quite beautiful.
British imperialism is behind.
chungchi hsu it is nothing to do with imperialism. Go educate yourself and get your facts rights, moron.
I have no idea why, this has to be one, if not the most powerful songs ever compiled. The poem combined with Holst just seems to make every British mans heart sore!! A tear in my eye and such elation in my heart.
Totally wonderful!!!!!!!
This group of guys was the best group of Libera ever.
To all the families who fought for our freedom: God’s blessing to you! “The final sacrifice” much love to you from us who never forget 🇬🇧 May God bless all of Europe, and God bless America.
Beautiful...lots of love from India ❤️❤️
So beautiful voices. Ed is awesome, Sam,Tom, Michael too. They are all great.

Still my favorite version of this hymn. So beautiful...especially, when slowed down some.
Aside from the magnificent piece, the voices soared and the violin made it perfect. You can have a perfect piece of music, can't you?
This song gives me the chills! Every note they hit is so perfect, and angelic that i feel so at peace! and all these nasty comments that people write on this page is really unfair, b/c i'm sure Libera didnt want these comments to be under this page!
May we all forgive each other as we are not enemies ...... be blessed .

im LDS and this is the most beautiful music i've ever heard in my life

I saw Libera on Channel 12 last night and I was HIGHLY impressed! You guys have voices like the highest level in Heaven! We sing this Hymn in our Church and to hear you guys sing it was like the doors from Heaven opened up! You have a lot of talent!

Jupiter from the Planets. I love that song...

Best of British, stand tall, stand strong and love the identity that god gave us.
I agree it's a shame that we don't hear about some of the other choirs as much as we do about libera, but I do think we should be grateful to libera speading the word about the genre.

Not any more.

@luverlything I, as an American, fear for the future of Britain... If only more people were like this in the free world...
There should have been a Bouquet of Union Jacks in this Video! It's a "Rule Britannia" Hymn! God Save The Queen and Heaven Bless Us All!
Lord Barrington Smithe
That's Great! I hope You like it!
Lord Barrington Smithe
They can try to do everything to remove Britannia's Flag but they forgot One major thing that pretty wedged in is The Ethics and The Language. So when they say "Britannia Rules The Waves" The proof is in the pudding so to speak, lol
On the left is Sam Leggett, I was told the boy second from left is Michael Veryken but I'm not entirely sure!
god blessed all of them.
@ukanian keep our traditions a live, our culture free, and our future generation safe in our island home land.
@agnosticcc God save the Queen, answer the call when our beloved nation needs us, long live the free, and god keep our island home land save and well.

This is based on Holst’s Jupiter :) By the way this is my favourite Libera! With Ben, Ed, Josh, Tom...
Well I am astounded!...............This is most amazing thanks for posting it. Can you tell me where you got it? I would like a copy.
@luverlything nothing is disappearing, they trying to destroy it,but as time shows ,(all good things prevail in the end) have faith!
@georgeamery its Libera - the name of the choir :p
That was almost...not human.....if a spaceship had suddenly taken them away I wouldn't have questioned it...
Respect from Korea

Gosh, this makes me wish that this was an American song! :D
Thank you, RedPanda91. I appreciate your takig the time to reply.
Is this from the DVD Angel Voices in Concert?
Elsa Sings Yes I have this DVD at home. A great concert
Who is the boy on the left of Tom?
makes me think of the marines but these boys are good singers like me
There are four boys standing in front. Who are the first two from the left. I know Tom and Ed on the right. I have seen the first boy in so many videos, but I've never seen him identified.
Ed Wiegand To the left of Tom is James Veryckean, he did a few high notes in a few songs on their cds, to the lleft of James is Sam Leggett
Beautiful. I wish they wasn't lip syncing, but the fact they were able to create it in the first place is inspiring.
One of the best versions I've ever heard!
They're not lip synching. The video is out of synch unfortunately so it looks like it is.
was Tom singing at the end with Ed?x
Nope, Ed is on the right of Tom, I meant the boy on the left singing with them :)
It's good
